Most Helpful Favorable Review

I've been wanting one of these for a while. Upgrading from a convertible trimmer/edger that just did not have the needed power. This edger was easy to assemble and prep. It started after a few pulls and I was able to get right to work. It sliced through a lot of excess growth and all I had to do was...

Most Helpful Critical Review

This gas edger worked great for about 2 months of use every other week. Then it started to smoke so bad I could not see through it. Took it into sears service where they admitted it was probably a lemon. But Sears would not refund or exchange as it was a gift from my wife and not used for a couple of...

WORKS GREAT!

Just bought this edger and was reluctant after reading some negative reviews but it works great. The 4 cycle motor has very good torque and is quite compared with any 2 cycle. Easy to put together, operate, and starts easily if properly primed.

Worked great except for the dull blades - put new blades and cuts much better. Starts easily and is easy to handle.

Great edger!

Very good edger that just starts right up every time.  No choke to fiddle with.  Pump the primer three times and you are up and running.  Went with this edger, because my Sears lawnmower was so reliable.  While this is a bit more edger than I need, it does the job and I can put it away.  It also costs less than comparable models at Home Depot.

Good luck,

Our lawn was beginning to look pretty shabby.  Our current gas edger was getting pretty old and not doing its job well anymore.  We went to Sears and looked at the edgers, admiring the looks and size of the Craftsmen 550 series gas edger.  Much nicer than our old one!   We bought it at a sale price, brought it home and used it the next day.  What a difference!  Our 300 feet of sidewalk looks good again.

Junk just plain ol JUNK

Second one I've had. Ought to have took the hint when they lost the first one at the service dept. "Hardheaded" Won't start. Hard to pull the cord. Floods super easy & leaks oil at the base of the motor. Don't buy this CRAP. Craftsman needs to take their name off this product.

Worked Great

I bought this Edger a month ago and have since used it 5 times. I have not experienced any problems. It was very easy to assembly and Start, It has never taken more than 2 pulls to start it.  I have St. Augustine grass and the grass was grown about 6 inches over the edge (looked terrible) I also live on a corner lot so there is alot to Edge but with this Edger the first time only took me 20minutes to complete. The only negative i have is the back wheel can be hard to adjust. you have to move the lever and pull down on the wheel at the same time. Other than that it would be 5 stars.

I trim about 1,000 feet of sidewalk and curb every week.  I bought this edger last week, and have used it twice, and my lawn looks 100% better!

The edger puts a nice clean line down both sides of the sidewalk and driveway.  And, with the drop down adjustable right rear wheel, I can finally put a nice, clean groove on the roadside curb.

The edger has a powerful motor, that won't bog down even when cutting through yazoo clay, tough byhalia roots, and whatever else I get into.  It also cuts clean lines in fine strands of bermuda grass.  And, with three pumps of the primer bulb, it cranks on the...

Really disappointed

Yes, as the other reviewers have stated, we are Craftsman fans. Had this edger for 2 months, and it has progressively gotten worse. Can't start the darn thing! When we first got it, it started after 2 or 3 pulls. Now, it takes a dozen pulls, and still it's an iffy thing. No adjustments can be made... there is no throttle, and the instructions tell you to keep priming it. After priming it a couple times, the air filter is so saturated with gas, the engine gets no air. BUT if you can get it started, it gives a clean cut, even on the thickest grass.

Wanted to return it, but we had already thrown...

Good Power. Clean Cut.

I've never had an edger, so am a bit of a novice. Originally I thought the engine was undersized, since it kept dying on me. I relented and read the manual to find you need to start at a higher setting and make a few passes gradually digging deeper. I was trying to dig deep on the first pass on unbroken ground. Following this new advise I was able to edge beautifully to full depth in three passes with no more engine failure. Also make sure you start the engine in the highest setting each time or your in for a nasty grind. I am glad I have the 3yr protection, since I see working this thing pretty... read full review »

edger

This expensive edger arrived in the box, and required some assembly, but was relatively easy to do. However, I found that the mechanism for adjusting the edger blade is very poorly designed. I found it impossible to actually run this machine as the handle stands nearly vertical and you are literally on top of the machine while attempting to push it along. This makes uneven surfaces nearly impossible to negotiate. I finally got so frustrated with trying to run this expensive edger that I shut it down and examined it carefully. I found that that the tension spring that's supposed to be notched... read full review »
