Craftsman 179cc 4 cycle Single Stage Snow Thrower with Electric Start —

I used to have a Toro single stage. I wish I had bought another Toro. I assumed that all single stage machines would perform about the same. Never assume! I bought the Craftsman single stage with the biggest engine, thinking I'd be chucking snow all the way to my neighbors yard. Was I wrong. This thing wouldn't clear 4 inches of snow, not heavy wet snow, just regular snow. Clogged so much that I gave up and got out my shovel. The handle is like a cheap broom. Broke the first day. I had to rig it up with hose clamps to keep it opperable. I will say the engine runs pretty well, although you can never get the choke just right, but it has always started. If you live someplace that gets 2-3 inches of snow twice a year, or want a dependable go-cart engine, then disregard my previous comments and buy all means, purchase one of these babies. I wouldn't buy another Craftsman snow thrower, but they do have some quality shovels, or maybe hire a plow guy! Just hoping to save someone money and frustration.

Seems to me that you purchased a unit that was too small for your needs. This particular unit is designed for "light use". I have one and it works very well for that application. I would suggest spending the money for the correct model for your needs rather than spend the bare minimum and expecting the most.

I agree also. Plugs constantly and doesn't throw snow very far (even with dry snow).
