I don't have a lot of experience to base this on. We had an electric snow thrower. It's been enough to handle most snowfalls here in N.E. Ohio. In January, I used it after we got hit with over a foot of snow. The snow just laughed at me and my little thrower. After some online research, I decided on this guy. The only one available within 25 miles was a floor model. That worried me a bit. But this thing is great. Even after additional ice, snow and a little bit of melting took place, this blower ate through everything that wasn't a solid block of ice. It takes a while to warm up and stay started, but once it's going, it's lovely. It powered through everything I aimed it at. I did have a lot of snow getting thrown back at me from underneath, but to be fair, my driveway was packed down ice at that point and not level at all. There's not been a snowfall heavy enough to use it again since the driveway thawed out, so I can't say if the throwback is better on a flat surface, though I assume it will be. It is a vast improvement over the electric thrower, and I would recommend it.
