I had been reading review on this snow blower and was kind of skeptical but given Sears 90-day money back guarantee, I decided to give it a shot. I went to purchase it at the Dedham store and they also had a single "used" one - a customer return for whatever reason but tested by Sears...review »
I used to have a Toro single stage. I wish I had bought another Toro. I assumed that all single stage machines would perform about the same. Never assume!
I bought the Craftsman single stage with the biggest engine, thinking I'd be chucking snow all the way to my neighbors yard. Was I wrong. This thing...review »

Craftsman 179cc 4 cycle Single Stage Snow... Ratings and Reviews
I was skeptical of buying a single stage snow thrower but this one has exceeded my expectations. In Chicago we got hit with about 12-16 inches of snow over two days and this went right through it and handled most of the heavy snow without any trouble. I did have some issues with slush that clogged the nozzle but I would not let that stop me from buying this model again. It shoots 12 inches of fairly heavy snow about 15-20 feet depending on the wind.
This is my 4th snow blower that I have purchased since 1980 and by far the best. It is the first snow blower that can almost be pushed to do its job with one finger (although I use both hands). It weighs about 84 pounds, but it doesn't matter, you only have to lift it once, from the car to the garage floor.
It has an MTD engine 4-cycle engine (the gas and oil are separate) with a 2 yr. warranty. My last Craftsman snow blower had a 2-cycle engine (gas and oil mixed together) with a Tecumseh engine.
Likes: It even removes snow tire tracks from the driveway, my first snow blower to accomplish this...review »
I purchased the snowblower about a month ago and have been very happy with it so far. It has always started on the first or second pull and runs strong. The first time I used it was on about a foot of snow where the snow was coming up over top of the inlet and it was still throwing the snow about 20 feet with no problem. Its good if you just want to clear a few inches of snow or if you have a lot. This is an excellent machine for the price and I highly recommend it to others.
This is my first snow thrower and it has been a good experience. It starts first time every time with the hand-pull---I've not had to use the electric start. I used it the first time on our first 9" NE Ohio snow fall and it cleaned mostly down to the blacktop with no trouble and threw the wet snow probably15 feet. I had to "nudge" it a little to go up my incline but it cleaned my 80 ft drive in 35 minutes with no problems. I would buy another one.
Poor engine performance, all plastic parts, many of which broke the first season, does not throw snow well. This snow blower is not worth the money spent. I will not buy another Craftsman snow blower
ok, first off, the engine starts very easy with ele. and by pull after warm...
Engine runs very well, IMO should run at a higher rpm, but this eng makes it's power down low..
The chute would hardly move on mine with the handle, the plastic would flex a bunch before it would turn through it's range..I had to use both of my hands down low on it from fear of breaking it...So I took the whole chute assembly apart and greased it with water proof marine grease, and oh boy did it make it work nice from the handle, hardly any effort at all, If Your's is like mine and you don't want to do what I did,...review »
It snowed about 6" today in Metro Detroit and I was sick of shoveling. I first went to the "orange" store and guess what: "All sold out sir. Maybe check back in a week or two." So I hop back in my vehicle and drive to my favorite store [Sears] and the guy says he's got plenty in stock. Same price, 4-stroke, electric start and compact... All the things I'm shopping for. [way to go Sears!]
Now, I picked this unit because it'll fit in the back of my Jeep Liberty with the handle collapsed so I can drive across town and work on the in-laws driveway & my sisters place. Plus, I don't need a huge snow...review »
Just got this 2 weeks ago. It replaced a Toro Power Curve I had for a long time. The Toro cleared flawlessly but it was impossible to start and needed to be serviced EVERY year even when I completely ran out the oil/gasoline mixture in it and used a stablizer on it. The Toro was perfect otherwise, but not much use if it wouldn't run.
I woke up to about 4 inches of medium weight snow and tried it for the first time. It started right up. Winters are very cold here in northern Illinois so the electric start is a big help.
It cut through the snow pretty easily and was throwing it a good 15-20 feet,...review »
This is my 4th snow blower that I have purchased since 1980 and by far the best. I have owner 2 Toro's and 2 Craftsman.
It is the first snow blower that can almost be pushed to do its job with one finger (although I use both hands). It is a one stage and great on concrete driveways. It weighs about 84 pounds, but it doesn't matter, you only have to lift it once, from the car to the garage floor.
It has an MTD engine 4-cycle engine (the gas and oil are separate) with a 2 yr. warranty.

I don't have a lot of experience to base this on. We had an electric snow thrower. It's been enough to handle most snowfalls here in N.E. Ohio. In January, I used it after we got hit with over a foot of snow. The snow just laughed at me and my little thrower. After some online research, I decided on this guy. The only one available within 25 miles was a floor model. That worried me a bit. But this thing is great. Even after additional ice, snow and a little bit of melting took place, this blower ate through everything that wasn't a solid block of ice. It takes a while to warm up and stay started,...review »
I live in the Chicago metro area. I wish I had this at the start of our winter. We have had over 40 in of snow so far. We just got another 10 this week and my wife had enough with shoveling.
For the price this is a very good snow blower. I have used Honda and Toro. But they are expensive and gone in my area. I was looking for a 4 cycle so I wouldn't have to mix fuel. The other brands were all sold out, but my neighborhood Sears had plenty of these to buy.
I did the minor assembly of the handle, filled it with gas and oil (which they give you a 20oz bottle for) and started it up. I have used it...review »
Pros:
1. No premix fuel.
2. Electric start.
3. Easy to manuever.
4. Lightweight - was able to lift into my pickup.
5. Not self-propelled but pulled itself forward easily without having push.
6. No exhaust smell on clothes when finished.
7. Did a great job on 7" medium weight snow. Even had to adjust the chute down as it was throwing it 20ft into my neighbors property.
8. Equally impressive on the packed snow from the plow trucks at the end of the driveway. Chewed right through it all.
Cons:
1. After clearing the driveway of the 7" I was left with the small chunks that I missed in my original pass....review »
We live in Buffalo, NY, so having a snow blower is almost a necessity. My parents needed a new snow blower and have a pretty big driveway and after looking at various models, settled on this one based on price.
We've had similar machines in the past, a Toro and one from W-Mart. This machine works exactly like I expected it to. It will cut through most snow with a pass or two. It throws pretty far, and in regular snow it worked great.
If you try most blowers in wet snow they will clog. I've used large ones and small ones and they all perform the same in wet snow.
A couple things I do like: the...review »
