I have owned both gas and electric chainsaws and this the best of both, with the exception of the higher end Makitas and Milwaukees. The operation is simple and well balanced. The chain oils nicely and chain tension adjustment is quick and simple. On my first day, I tackled a 15' apple, two 50' poplars... review »

Purchased to replace my 16" Poulan electric which served me through thick and thin for over 10 years. Bought this larger 18" to cut trees into firewood and made about 4 or 5 cuts when the saw lost power and the motor started smoking. I checked for a jamed chain but nothing was wrong. It did not run at... review »

I purchased the 18" craftsman electric chainsaw two months ago. I got the extended three year warrantee. I've been using it in lots of cold temperatures--from 20 Fahrenheit to -35 Fahrenheit. After one month use the electric cord broke because of the cold weather. The cord needs to be made of soft flexible rubber to remain adequately flexible in real cold weather. But unfortunately the cold is made of some plastic material that cracks easily in cold temperatures.I took it back to Sears and they immediately gave me a brand new one. I would have been happy if they had just fixed the cord. In any... review »

This is a great chain saw. It far exceeded my expectations! We had some big limbs fall during a storm last week, so I took my new chain saw and cut them all into manageable pieces and hauled it all to the road to be picked up by the city. Perfect experience. Then I tackled a tree with a 24-inch trunk. It took some work, but my little chain saw and me brought it right down. I've tried chain saws before and I wasn't strong enough to use them. No problem with this one though. It's light enough to allow me to use it with no problems.

Owned saw for 3 months and it has done very well. Plenty of power. Adjusting chain tention is very easy and Quick!! So having chain come off should never be a problem , If you keep an eye on it. I used it with a 100ft. cord and had no problems, even though its not recommended. I cut through 12 inch dia. trees no problems.

I do not know if was just a bad batch or that Sears store was cleaning the defected one that I just brought in and placing back on the self so every other one was the same one that I just returned the week before. there was no problem getting someone to replace it but was the time that I have spent going back and forth, a real pain. I going to try a Gas Chain Saw next.

In less than three hours I (being over 50 and a lady) cut enough fire wood off my land for the saw to already pay for itself. The ease of handling and of course starting, my back is still hurting from trying to start my gas saw, made this very easy and fast for me. I would highly recomend this product.

The Craftsman 18" electric chain saw is an awesome saw!

It has way way more power than I ever expected and more. Right out of the box and after reading the manual I proceed to cut down (five) storm damaged 8 to 12 inch diameter and 25 to 40 feet tall trees without any delays. A job I thought would take all day was done in five hours. By that statement I mean all cut down cut up and all the branches and limbs in piles. Once getting use to the electric cord being attached I was able to work very smoothly around those 25 to 40 foot high trees on the ground. It sure beats pulling your arm off...

This is a good little electric chainsaw. I also have a Stihl MS 441, which I use for large trees, but this electric saw is also handy. I was actually surprised at how powerful it is. I've used it to clear a medium size oak tree (with about a 12 inch diameter base). It handled the tree and limbs no problem. The adjustment system for the chain is very nice. I would say this would be a good starter chainsaw for someone who wants to learn to use a chainsaw, but isn't ready to set up to a gas powered saw just yet. This saw is also nice for when you don't need the power of a larger saw or when you need... review »

This is not the first electric chain saw I've owned, but it is by far the best. Some of the home center saws don't use standard chains/bars, and I really wanted the tool-free chain adjust. I have a 100' #12 extension cord, so I can reach a lot. The 15 year old pile of cedar trees is practically melting away. I look forward to using this saw for a very long time.

I purchased this because my gas/oil chainsaw was giving me trouble. I was delightfully surprised by how well this saw cuts. I has much more power than I expected. It has worked very well for me since early October. It cuts quickly and much more quietly than a gas/oil. It is a great saw for a home owner with less than an acre of gound to maintain. If you have many acres to maintain or you have lots of trees to cut, the need of a cord will be a pain to work around. I haven't decided whether I like the quick tightening feature or not. To me, it doesn't look to be durable, but so far, it has held up... review »

This is a very well made. well balanced chainsaw for medium duty. I would not attack a forest of Redwoods, but around a small farm, it is perfect. No chain oil is included and our Sears stores don't carry it... but plain old 30 weight auto oil is just perfect according to the salesman at Sears. I feel that an 18" is safer than a shorter bar because you don't want the tip to contact the wood. The motor is more than powerful enough for medium duty limbs and the occasional vertical split of a trunk section. Only had it a few weeks, but lots of firewood is ready for the cold nights.

Although this saw is adaquate for up to 36" dia wood ( if you have the patients) The rated 4 HP is unrealistic. While admittedly not an electrical engineer, I fail to understand how one can draw near 2900+ watts thru a 115v 15-20 amp circut. Could this be why Husky only rates theirs 2.2 HP . I wish manufacturers would publish the realistic capabilities of their products. This saw does not have the power of my previous Poulon Pro 42cc gas saw ( for which I am having trouble obtaining repair parts) that failed after about 40hours of use.

I was skeptical about an electric chain saw, but this 4 hp. puppy here gets the job done. I started cutting small soft branches but soon graduated to large & very large oak branches. No problem at all. I am totally satisfied & very impressed with the 4 hp craftsman 18" chain saw. The only problem I had was getting it away from my wife.

After a tree fell down in my yard, I made fairly quick work of turning it into firewood with this chainsaw. The 18 inch blade, chain brake, and tool-less chain tightening are nice features. Chain is made by Oregon, good quality. Good for the casual user, if you need to clear alot of trees get a gas model.
