had this thing about a year. only used it 5 times normally in a small yard. last time i used it, the thing just stopped working. had to weedeat the rest of my yard.
other than that, it slows in taller grass, grass clippings stick to and build up on the underside of the mower deck, rather than going in the bag catcher or out the side chute.
i'm going to buy a different brand of mower, and from a different store.
sears said they'd fix it, cuz it's under warranty, but there's a 40 fee and i could be charged more.
craftsman and sears, you disappoint me....

I got to use this mower only 5 times before it broke. There is a little red button you have to push in, then raise a lever while holding the button, to engage the mower. This flimsy contraption broke after only 5 uses. Plus, the mower I purchased was missing a manual and the side discharge attachment. I was told the unit was a new boxed unit from off the self. Evidently, that was not the case.

I have had Craftsman electric mowers in the past, but this one just seems subpar. I will be returning this mower. Just as an FYI, I checked on the cost to replace the cheap electrical switch that burned out, and it costs $82. Almost half the cost of the entire mower.
...

I purchased this this mower two months ago to replace a gas mower that had broken. Since we have always used gas mowers we were very skeptical of the electric mowers and after some research saw that a corded electric mower was better than a cordless that has issues keeping/holding the charge. After eight weeks of mowing, we are in love and will never by a gas mower again. It's great to go outside ready to mow the lawn and not have to stop and got to the gas station since you're out of gas. The only drawback is getting used to having a cord while mowing, eventually it becomes natural to keep moving the cord out the way. Also, this mower is better suited to shorter grass, when we let the lawn grow an extra week or two it takes a second pass to get it cut low enough.
...

I got a electric mower the first time, and I bought the Craftsman 19" corded electric mower (37016) on Jul. 2010. So far I have used it 6 times, and I like it more any previously owned gas mower. It is extremely light and easy to push, and it is powerful enough to mow pretty tall grass without any problem.

The only potential negative of using a corded vs cordless is that one needs to be a little bit careful with the extension cord, but once you get used to manipulating the cord (get at least a 100' 14 gauge extension cord), it is not that bad. I decided against the cordless one because I don't want to have to replace the expensive rechargable battery 2-3 years later.

I bought this mower a couple of weeks ago. It's the first lawnmower I've ever owned and I have to say I love it.

It's easy to assemble, easy to use, and quiet. I like the ergonomic handle, it's lighter than I had anticipated and very easy to push. Before buying this one, I used an older Black & Decker electric that belonged to a friend and I have to say this mower is far superior. It's quieter, lighter, and the metal body seems much more durable than the plastic body of the B&D and some of the other mowers I've seen.

Mowing with the cord can be a bit challenging, but I'm getting used to it. The secret seems to be to start mowing near the house (outlet) and work your way away from it, that way you're not in much danger of running over the cord. .
...

I purchased this mower about a month ago, so while I cannot write about the long term quality of the mower, I can write about the ease of use and value for your money. Background: I recently moved from an apartment where I was not required to do any lawn work to a house with a small yard. I haven't had to mow a yard in years. Previously I have only used gas mowers, and I have found that I have difficulty when trying to start a gas powered mower.

I purchased a 100 foot cord that met the specifications for the mower, and I found that it provides ample length for my yard. Getting used to mowing with a cord takes some practice. I would say that after mowing 3 times, I have become much more adept. I wish that this mower had a wider cutting radius, as it takes a few more passes than the gas mowers I have used in the past would have needed. However, the extra time is nothing compared with the ease of starting this mower. It's as simple as pushing a button and the pulling on the handle. When you...
...

Just use the coded electric lawnmower yesterday. First time by myself and it function well. easy to use but has to figure out some plan in the wire. Has to go end to end for a loner area, from close to distance. can't push in circle, 99% will cut the code. small area can pull and push. light and easy. I can't tell any different from what I paid somebody to do it every week, But I'm sure my money will back as long as I use it more than 9 times with no pain in maintenance. The instruction is quite confusing. No picture about the mulch part has to be remove in rear collection. need clearer set up instruction.
...

So far we love our new electric mower. Less noise, less maintenance, less hassle. The mower feels much more substantial than it's plastic counterparts. The bag, while small, is plenty for our small yard. It is corded, so I would only recommend this for a smaller yard. However, we have not found the cord to be annoying at all. My husband had a little trouble at first, but the instruction guide actually gives you a "map" on the best way to manage the cord, and once you use that you're fine. I love that it will mulch, blow, and bag without any extra purchase. We like to collect the clippings for compost. Tall grass, short grass, leaves - all no problem. Highly recommend!
...

This mower is the closest one to gas, in power, but without the hassle. My last mower had an all plastic deck, and it was really a challenge to get it through my Saint Augustine grass, but I appreciated that it was electric, so kept working with it. It was a good day when it finally broke! I did a lot of research online and in stores, as I looked for a new mower, and looked at the Craftsman twice before deciding to buy it. I made the right choice. Because of the steel deck, (the added weight) I can now mow my lawn in half the time it used to take me, and I'm happy because I stayed with an electric mower. This one has a great feature; a clip the extension cord attaches to allows the cord to move from side to side and I never have the hassle of moving the cord around to avoid running over it! I also appreciate the safety feature of having to use two movements to start it instead of one; so easy to use. Even though the Craftsman's power is the same as my last mower it mows as though it has...
...

I've only had the mower a few months, so can't speak to longevity or reliability which are important considerations.

In the short term I am happy with its performance. Cuts and handles well. Quiet and no gas fume smell. I previously had a cordless mower with a rechargable battery which was easier to handle. However, battery life became an issue and I could not mow the entire lawn on one charge. It does take a few trials to figure out the best pattern for mowing with the cord and thus I tend to mow in the same/easist pattern which may not be the best for the lawn. Also, one needs to learn to make an extra loop of the cord around the handle so that every small pressure on the cord does not cause it to become unplugged from the mower. All in all, I am pleased with the mower.
...

I was up in the air between this electric mower and the Worx corded mower. I went with Craftsman for the look and wider cutting path and Craftsman name. The mower worked very well and I was very pleased with the outcome when finished. But, in only 4 months the red safety button unit on the handle began smoking the unit made a poping sound and that was it. I called Sears and they explained that the unit would have to be evaluated by a Sears repair facility to determine if in fact it is a factory defect(understandable). Note that I am not stupid, this unit was never used in the rain or any wet conditions nor was the blade locked up due to sticks or any other obstructions to the blade. The grass was cut every week on a 50x150 piece of property. I will stress that this mower worked well when it worked but this is not for people that want to cut their grass every month instead of every week or want to run though the grass with a mower, it will bog down. If you have a small piece of property......
