Had to replace my older Craftsman, price was good and got a year with no interest. Prefer a rear propelled mower however. I had a Toro recycler before, a great mower but about $150 more. It was rear propelled as well. The front propelled type tends to tear up the lawn.
...

BUYER BEWARE!

My 15 year-old craftsman lawnmower finally died so I bought a craftsman 675 series power propelled lawn mower, trusting the craftsman and Briggs & Stratton names. Before the warranty was out one front power wheel had to be replaced and the carburetor had to be rebuilt. I use the mower less than 50 hours per year. Soon after warranty expired, other front power wheel needed to be replaced and the carburetor had to be recleaned to the tune of $100. Turns out the "Briggs & Stratton" engine is not made by B&S but of B&S parts and the engine can not tolerate gasoline with ethanol. Unfortunately for me all the gas in my state contains ethanol. So now every year I'll need to replace a wheel and have the carburetor cleaned.

Google - ethanol ruining small engine carburetor - before buying B&S engine

My advice, spend the extra money on a Honda because you know it is made by Honda with true Honda parts and I've heard their engines can handle gas with ethanol.
...

trukntigger says "Solid performance, one pull starting- very easy, bag use perfect" about Craftsman 190cc 22&#34 Briggs & Stratton Rear Bag Front Propelled Lawn Mower

What a mower should be. They were not kidding, one start pull and easy to do so at that. No choke, no prime..just pull. Oil fill easy to check and fill right on top. Rear bag a snap to release and reattach. Front wheel drive pulls well if you let the mower pull you along. The cut is clean, seems most all clippings get in bag. Appears to me not to use as much gas as my old mower or maybe tank just bigger, not sure yet. 6.75 engine has plenty of power, barely lugged down in thick overgrown damp grass.

Few cons, wish there was a clear sight window on bag to see when it's full. Heard the lastest model has that. Undecided on if bigger wheel model would handle better when pivoting but this mower is a tad heavy thus smaller rear wheels seem to dig in a bit more when you press down handle to lift front up to pivot.

Overall I'd recommend this mower. If you have a few extra dollars try the bigger rear wheel model for easier pivoting.
...

I bought this particular mower being that it was a Craftsman first off and second because it was front propelled. After mowing with a push mower for too many years it was time for me to get a little help! Well this Craftsman 190cc Premier mower with a Briggs & Stratton 6.75 hp motor was just what I needed. Ease of use, plenty of power, and that one start pull makes it a great mower.
...

Just purchased this mower yesterday. Assembly was very easy and it started on the first pull with very little effort. Some of the negative reviews talked about the handle and that it should've been padded. I agree, but a pair of gloves solves that. No big deal. The bagging system is outstanding. I like how the door stays open while you dump the bag and re-attach it. I also love how the bag will slide into a paper disposal bag for emptying. The variable speed drive is a plus as the mower will only move as fast as you want it to. The adjustable deck height system is ok. I think they could have implemented one lever for it instead of the 4 pull-pins. Overall this lawn mower is awesome and I hope it lasts for many years. I would definately recommend it to anyone.

I have one problem so far. Actually it's 2 (customer service). The EZ Deck Wash System is not covered at all in the manual. Never having such a thing on a mower before, I didn't know how to use it. Online chat could not find an answer...
...

This is the second season for using mower. The property is a 1/3 acre suburban home with lots of contours around plant beds and a grade to handle in the front yard. The mower doesn't handle the contours and direction changes involved in cutting the lawn. One of the back wheels is beginning to show signs of lateral movement. The level change devices don't work at all in the front wheels. The motor is powerful enough to do a reasonable job of mulching. The front drive mechanism works adequately and unlike the Craftsman self-propelled mower this one replaced, grass clippings don't build up under the drive cover. In summary, for the money paid, it's an ok mower. It's probably better suited to a smaller lot that is flat and lacks contours.
...

After taking the mower out of the box, I was unable to start it. Apparently, part of the starter cord was disconnected. By the way, I am a 44 year old woman. I had my friend look at it and after looking a while, he noticed that it was not connected. He connected it and tried to start the mower. It still would not start, so he told me to try it after 30 minutes because he may have flooded it. After a few hours, I started the mower on the first pull and I have not had any issues ever since. I have owned it for just over a month now. It is very easy to start and it starts after the first pull every time now. I am really happy that I did not have to return the mower. I am very pleased.
...

Bought this lawn mower because it was rated pretty high in ****************. It started right away and it cut good. We have almost a 1/2 acre to cut and the bag is a little too small for our needs. But that's not a big deal.

The problem is that no matter how long we run the lawn mower, whether it's 2 minutes or 20 minutes, it won't start again for 30 minutes if you turn it off. This has happened since the first day we got it. It's pretty frustrating. I wasn't expecting the world's greatest product but I did expect a product to work.
...

After literally days of reading reviews and learning of all of the problems people had I went to the store to seek the advice of a salesperson. Luckily I got someone who was not afraid to tell me the good bad and the ugly about the mowers that Sears sells, even if it meant me walking out of the store without one. They had 2 used mowers on the sales floor that looked brand new except for a few blades of grass on the underside. The one I took was this 37639. I was very skeptical about the quality of the new Craftsman mowers even though I've owned a Craftsman mower for 12 years. I have used it twice now and it works GREAT. It is really fast, doesn't stall or even bog down in wet grass, and cuts our grass cleanly and evenly. I hope I got a good one and it will continue to work as well as it has up 'til now.

I am loosing faith in CR Mag and their ratings. They sing praises when it comes to Toro mowers but have you read the consumer reviews on Toros? Falling apart out of the box, not...
...

I purchased this mower in June 2009. Within two months the rear skirt was destroyed when backing up at a corner as it was caught by the blade. Warranty call resulted in a new skirt and was told it was a new part # as it was redesigned to prevent this problem from reoccurring. Apparently Sears knows this is a problem. Well, the second skirt was devoured by the mower again last night. I guess the redesign wasn't successful. This is a safety hazard. Flying rear skirt parts are dangerous. When I called the warranty department today I was told the mower isn't designed to be pulled backwards! What!! The mower is only supposed to go forward forever. What about turning around at fences or corners!!? Sears position is completly ridiculous. A call to the Better Business Bureau is forthcoming. No mower is only designed to go forward! Shame on you Sears!! Do not buy this mower!
...

I have owned this mower for a year..this month. I have had to send it back twice with battery problems and they (Sears) did a nice job of repairing the issues. My last Craftsman mower was nine years old and had no issues. I think I just wore it out. This new mower took a little getting used to. It does have a lot of power or torque to the front drive wheels, but is easy to overcome by just pulling slightly to engage the drive instead of immediately pulling it all the way back and making the wheels spin. The starter is a nice feature , but I've encountered two battery problems and that obviously does do much to help the electrical starting process. It doesn't cut as well as the old one , yet does a nice job and is easy to manuver.

All-in-all, I believe its a good mower, but I also believe the quality is less than my old one of nine years. That almose seems to be the trend of a lot of products lately and that is ONLY MY OPINION.
...

My husband and I purchased this lawnmower at the beginning of last season and it mowed pretty good, and when we went to get it out this season to start mowing we found that it was hard to start, it took several tries before it would start, the self propelled cord cable broke from the frame and it burns oil something terrible. We have NEVER run this lawnmower low on oil so I don't know why that is happening and it seems like everything is plastic and just keeps breaking, $360.00 is a lot of money to spend these days for something that doesn't work. Very dissatisfied with this lawn mower, and Sears won't stand behind them after a year old, it's really a shame, same thing happened with our craftsman riding mower, just fell apart, so be careful when buying this mower.
...

This outstanding mower does the job so easy makes me want to mow more often. . I did find that like all other mowers of this style , if you mow wet grass it will build up and bog it down. But best bet is not to mow wet grass with most mowers.

Always easy to start and if you add just a tad of gas & or oil treatment from the Sears automotive shops it will start well each & every season.

I don't use the bagger due to the environment in my opinion can use the break from all our trimmings in landfills. Along with the plastic bags going there with the trimmings it's simply NOT GREEN to do so.

It is difficult to believe the number of high ratings I am seeing on this lawnmower.

I am hopeful I can save some new buyers a lot of disappointment. As soon as I got this lawnmower home, I mowed my front yard. If you like a engine that never started on the 1st pull, is so loud you are unable to hear your ipod as you mow, and is a heavy clunky lawnmower that bogs down in thick grass, leaving clumps of un-mulched grass scattered all over your yard...then this is your lawnmower.

I had a great salesman at Sears that directed me to the Husqvarna with the (smaller) Kohler 173 cc engine. (after I returned the Craftsman). I took it home, mowed the backyard (same height and conditions as front yard)...no clumps, started on 1st pull, cut without hesitation, and was able to listen with ease to my ipod. I simply couldn't believe the difference. The smaller Kohler easily out performed the larger Briggs engine. And, the design of the Husqvarna has got to be far superior. It easily...
...

I bought this mower to replace a 6 hp Sears Eager 1 that was 10 years old. The mower is quiet, powerful and easy to set up. It indeed starts first pull right out of the box. The wheel adjustment is simple and effective and I love the range of mowing heights available. It cut through the thickest damp grass I have in the mulch setting. It is easily the best mower I've ever owned at an outstanding price.
...

I purchased this mower at the very end of the 2009 grass mowing season (in Texas, that's early November) when my 20 year old Toro finally gave up the ghost. Sears was the only place with mowers on sale, and I picked this up for well under $300.

Setup was easy and without incident, and it started on the first pull. Height adjustment is OK, and I like that it has a much wider range of adjustment than my old mower.

It handles and cuts well, and seems to have more power than my old mower. Front drive takes a bit of getting used to, but hey, if you can't figure it out, you probably shouldn't be using power tools anyway. I haven't used the bag yet, preferring to mulch the grass clippings, and this mower does it as well as any mower I've used.

As I wrote, it starts on the first pull, but it takes a bit more force to pull the cord than some mowers; no problem for most people but someone like a petite senior citizen might have a little difficulty. It's also one of the LOUDEST mowers I've used; I've...
...

Happyhulagirl says "Sears Craftsman Front Propelled - Why didn't I do this sooner?!" about Craftsman 190cc 22&#34 Briggs & Stratton Rear Bag Front Propelled Lawn Mower

I love my new Craftsman Front Propelled Lawn Mower! I no longer dread the task of mowing the lawn thanks to this beautiful machine. What once took me close to 2 1/2 hours with a push mower (I have a large front and back lawn.) now takes me only an hour! I wish I had done this sooner!

Years back I used to own a Craftsman Rear Propelled (also purchased through Sears) but selected to go with a push mower after that. Boy! was that a mistake! The Front mower moves a little differently from what I remember about the Rear one but is no less effective.

Thank you Sears for offering such a great deal on this lifesaver!
...
