This mower is extremely heavy and very difficult to manuvuer. The front wheel drive is very weak and will only assist when you physically push the mower as well. If you have any rolls are small hills in your yard this mower will scalp those areas.
I've only used the mower a couple of times, but so far it's great! We did let it charge for 24 hours before the first use. During the first time that I cut the grass, I used the key start several times when I had to move things out of the way, and it just kept starting. Then, it did start with the key a week later as promised.
I was a little unsure about the fact that you could let go of the levers which cause forward movement, but continue to hold the handle bar so that it would not shut off, but it was pretty simple. It is a nice feature if you just want to stop for a minute.
This mower is packed with features at a very attractive price...but I returned it after one use. What a disappointment.
The mower was easy to set up and started immediately. I had no issues with traction from the front wheel drive and liked the machine's manuverability with the large rear wheels. Being able to control the variable speed drive with either hand is also a nice plus.
It did a great job of turning my Bermuda grass into a fine much. But this is also where the problems occurred. I had mowed no more that 10 or 12 feet and the mower deck was already covered with a inch or so of mulched...
read full review »I just used this new mower for the first time today and was pleased that I couldn't relate to the problems expressed by others. I ran one bag through and it seemed to fill up very quickly, it would be nice for it to be larger, but it sealed just fine. Then I switched to mulching and the rear port sealed just fine. The side port did accumulate some clippings between the deck and side discharge blockoff plate, but I didn't have any problem with clippings blowing out from there.
I tried one manual pull start and it was super quick & easy to pull. Besides that, I used the electric start, I...
read full review »It's my first lawn mower. I searched a lot before I bought this and finally I decided to buy this. The money I paid, it's surely worth it. Easy starting, easy to move, key start feature and adjust level and many more. Sears is the best store to buy and sears website "Lawn Guru" program helps to decide which type of lawn mower suits to you. Try that too before you buy.
This is an excellent walk behind mower, all you have to do is walk behind it and steer. No pushing required. And they key start is excellent, no more throwing your shoulder out trying to pull the cord although that is an option if you just like the good old days. The only thing I have had problems with is when using the side discharge and your grass is too long it gets clogged up.
First the good features: This mower was to easy to set up in a few minutes. It started up right away in one easy pull even though it has no operator choke adjustment or primer. (I didn't try the key start because it requires charging first.) The height adjustment on the wheels was simple to do and required no effort. For these reasons I wanted this mower to be perfect for me but it wasn't. Now the bad part: The variable speed on this self-propelled mower didn't work. As the grass bag filled it added weight to the real which cause the front wheel drive to lose traction. I had to empty the bag when...
read full review »The Craftsman 22 inch mower with the B&G engine is a good product. It starts reliably and does a good job cutting just about anything. Unfortunately it also cuts the rear debris guard (flap). The flap tucked under the mower in reverse and the blade did it's job. So now I'm on a new blade. Otherwise the mower seems solid. This is the start of season 2 and so far with the one exception I'm satisfied with my purchase.
The main feature I was looking for was the key start. I have to stop cutting frequently, due to health issue, and the key start eliminated a very negative aspect of cutting the lawn.
Since this is a Craftsman brand, I am confident of the quality and warranty. Sears has always taken care of me in the past if I encountered a problem.
Just purchased and used this lawn mower today. Read all the reviews and had to differentiate between those folks that were actually capable of understanding what they were reviewing. The lawn mower went together in 10 minutes. They say you need to charge the battery for 24 hours to use the electric start feature, but I was able to use it after 30 minutes of charging. I mowed the entire lawn (about 10,00 sq ft with hills) in about 15-20 minutes. The mower performed perfectly throughout. People complained of the front wheels losing traction as the bag filled. I never had to empty the...
read full review »Bought one of these yesterday. No oil was included (should be, per instructions). The pull-cord dangles about 6 inches below the hook on the handlebars (the brass stopper on the cord that limits how much the cord can retract appears to be incorrectly set), and I found a part loose in the box and can't figure out what it's supposed to be attached to (nothing in the instructions). So much for quality control. I think I'll bring it back today and get a Honda.
After using it for about 30 minutes, the mower would no longer shut off when I released the bar and I had to pull the spark plug wire to get the engine to shut down. So much for safety features! The engine was very erratic, idling high, then low. The high rear wheels were wobbly, the traction was poor and the entire mower just felt cheap. Within 2 hours I returned it for a refund and will search for a better built mower.
Debated front vs rear wheel drive, and whether or not to give the Craftsman brand another try. Overall, this seemed like a great mower, full of features. My wife even tried mowing some, liking the key-start. No bag problems, since I mulch. However, after letting go of the lever to engage the wheels, the front wheels refuse to roll backward, making tight areas and "dead-ends" difficult to mow. So I'm returning this model for a rear-wheel drive version, hoping the disengaging of the drive-mechanism functions better on that model.
