Craftsman 2 hp Vertical Portable Tank Air Compressor, 33 gal. —
I needed a good compressor for working on my car in the garage. I needed one with a fairly large capacity that worked off 120v and this fit the bill nicely. I was a bit apprehensive when I read the reviews regarding it's noise level and tendency to trip circuit breakers but I decided to give it a try. I was pleased to find that it wasn't much noisier than my old oil-filled model (also a craftsman, circa 1970's) and it worked nicely in a 20a outlet that is shared with the overhead fluorescent fixtures.
I was able to use both my DA sander and sandblaster. The compressor ran continuously with these "air hogs" but it didn't detract from their efficiency. It's recovery (to 150psi) is a little slow but as I said, it didn't hinder it's performance. I can't say much for the reliability as this is my first oil-free model but I gave it 5-stars based on the fact that it's a craftsman and my old one hasn't died yet.
I would recommend this one to anyone that doesn't mind a little noise to get a first-class compressor. I paid a little over $300 which included a 2 year warranty to be safe. This included a neat set of air tools including an impact, ratchet, chisel and a high pressure hose for free. Overall a very good value.
The reason for 4-stars in the workmanship, the tank had a lot of weld splatter near the inlet that could have easily been sanded smooth with just a little effort. Otherwise it looked very nice.
