I purchased this last year and was skeptical at first by the clear plastic scoop. The price was high compared to other shovels next to it, but it had features others didn't. This shovel was well worth the money. This winter with the northeast getting dumped by snow, was perfect. The snow would stick... read full review »

Most Helpful Critical Review

This was the only shovel available to replace the steel shovel with the fiber handle.  The handle broke on my steel shovel after many years of good service.  The first time I used this shovel was in heavy snow and it was flimsy and too light for heavy snow.  Appeared to have been designed by someone...

Craftsman 20&#34 Combo Shovel Reviews

I bought this shovel based on a lack of options at my Sears Hardware store.  I was weary of the clear plastic shovel and for good reason.  During the first season it broke when i was pushing a heavy snow.  The store replaced it with no hassle but as others' have reviewed it is not always in stock.  The metal blade does wear down quickly but my second shovel has been working okay for two seasons now.  The only reason I would recommend this shovel to a friend is for the warranty and the lack of options available.

The shovel shovels

I received this in exchange for my 10 year old Craftsman that had worn down. I have used it several times of far and it does a fine job for me. The snow does stick a little to it but not too much. Best thing is I can exchange it again in another 10 years.

I have used and had a number of snow shovels. I have put this model through a lot of snow and conditions that have broken previous models. Only improvement could be with ergonomics but as is it is good. The polycarbonate has less problems with wet snow sticking than the aluminum and other models.

After the pounding of snow that we got in 2010, I knew that I wanted a new, high end snow shovel for 2011. I don't normally like to splurge on yard equipment, but this was an exception. I wanted the most durable, space age, high capacity show shovel in existence. I was half serious when I told my wife that I was hoping to find a NASA branded shovel at the store. I can't say for sure if this is that shovel, but it's pretty **** good. The 20" scoop means you can move large quantities of snow very quickly. With a single scoop of this shovel, you can move a 12-18" thick layer of snow completely... read full review »

GREAT SHOVEL

This is a great shovel, takes care of wet heavy Maine snow with no problem.  Despite what most reviews have said this shovel is available YEAR ROUND online, do the snowmobiles stay out at your local snowmobile dealer through summer?? No boats and 4-wheelers take over.  So why would Sears not make room for season specific tools?  Also I think most of the complainers think that a company should just have a product when they need it...they don't take into account any number of people might have come and taken advantage of their hand tool gaurantee before them.  I need it u should have it that's...

I purchased this shovel last winter (December 2008) because one of our old ones had been stolen. What a great replacement!

The D handle is big enough for a gloved hand to easily fit, but with a rubberized grip for extra control. The shaft has a cushioned collar to eliminate the ice-cold shaft freezing your hands. The shaft itself is crafted of lightweight aluminum, and the blade is a lightweight transparent polycarbonate, which combine to reduce the weight of the shovel and make shoveling easier. After all, the snow is heavy enough! It also has a pretty durable ice-breaking blade on the edge, which...

The scraper bar is not thick enough gauge to last.  If you don't break something else on this shovel (which would be covered by the Craftsman guarantee) then you will wear out the bar which is not covered.  That is planned obsolence on Sears' part.  Also, the older Craftsman snow shovel (coated aluminum scoop, galvanized blade, D-handle, fibre handle) is no longer sold so they got me on that one.  Can't replace it however it happens to break - clever work Sears.  My much much older non-Craftsman, non Sears (coated aluminum scoop, thick gauge blade, long wood handle with out D-handle) is...

Needs to lose the metal scraper bar and foam, since they are not Lifetime Guaranteed (fine print sticker under the handle). Let the polycarbonate be the scraper, and make it a little narrower, step width for stairways.

If you have to shovel snow in any which way, you need this shovel.  Do not waste your time buying shovel after shovel, season after season.  Buy this once.  Put it away somewhere in the garage or barn when you are done with it for the season.  I have had this shover for a few years now, replaced it only once.  Thanks to the Craftsman guarantee it was taken care of.  20 inches across, light wieght, very durable.  The only drawback, it is not stocked all year.  If you need to use the warranty do it while the snow flies.  Otherwise you may have to sit on it for awhile.  That is the only...

Broken

This shovel stinks. Unfortunately, it seems to be the only Craftsman snow shovel so when they are back in stock I will trade my broken one for a new one. This shovel did not even last one season! It's plastic. I had a feeling when I bought it that it might not last, but being a Craftsman figured it was worth a try. Sure wish they had some metal ones.
