I searched and searched the Web to find this information but didn't find anything online. I hope this helps others in the future.

If you want to add a Headlight to model #88691 Sears Snowblower there is an option the Sears Sales people don't know or won't mention. Both the Floor Salesman and the SearsPartsDirect Sales Person tried to push the Arnold Smowblower Light Kit Part #490-241-0009at $39.99. I read several reviews and many said the light was junk.

I looked at several of the floor models and studied the Part Lists from several other models then took a chance an ordered a few parts. The following list of parts was putchased from SearsPartsDirect.com. I intsalled them tonight and it works GREAT and cost a little over $20.

This model already comes with the stator and light lense so all you need is the following a few zip ties a Hair Dryer and a 10MM socket.

Wire Harness 725-04314 $6.40

Bulb 4152J $2.92

Socket 925-1649 $4.34

Use the Hair Dryer and heat the decal that covers the Headlight Lense. Slowly peel the decal off. Twist lock the Bulb into the Socket. Twist lock the socket into the back of the lense. Then plug the Wire Harness into the Socket. Wire tie the Harness down the Handle and plug into the stator. Take the 10MM bolt out of the rear motor housing at the bottom of the motor and put the bolt through the ground lug of the Wire Harness and reinstall the Bolt.

Works GREAT and has a factory installed look! BTW I looked online and found a SearsPartsDirect Coupon for 10% too!

I'm a salesperson, I didn't know about that, and if I did I still would have suggested the Anrold brand light, made for all MTD manufactured snow throwers.

Reason being, unless that little setup you tried is a manufacturer approved modification, any problems, however likely it may or may no be with the headlight, that may occur as a result of it have voided your warranty.

WallyP,

These parts were parts from a similar Model with the same Stator and Lense. Why would this void the warantee? I would think this would be a better fit then the Arnolds aftermarket solution.

Someone at Sears or PartsDirect needs to get with the Manufacturer and make sure this is an approved modification. I don't know what the net is on the sales of the Arnold's Part but I spent $20 on a wire, a piece of plastic and a bulb. There has to be some darn good profit in that!

How long does your "creation's" bulb stay lit?

if the carb went south and that was used to void a warranty, that would have the appearance of the mfg being  chicken manuer!

It only voids the warranty if the hypothetical problem has something to do with the modification. If the gearbox goes out, or the carb has a problem, the serviceman probably wouldn't even notice the headlight.

If an incorrect headlight shorted out the wires that run to the starter though... might be a whole different can of worms.

I bought all the parts, went to put the socket in the back of the lens and the socket is too big. Am I doing something wrong? I double checked the part number and it's correct

Hi Unrealkodiak, thanks for using MySears. The socket should twist into a locked position.

Bought all the parts listed. The wire harness has a white plastic femail plug on the end with the ground ring.  Is that what plugs into the stator?  I see where to connect everything except.  Where is the stator?

Hi nomoreshovels, thanks for using my Sears. I know you are on another thread here also but to answer your question here, the new models do not have a plug-in for your headlight harness.

Jonny Two Guns,

I just used the information you posted to install the headlight on my brand new model #88691 Sears Snowblower and would like to confirm that it works perfectly.

I purchased the following from Sears Parts Direct and add the prices to your post:

Snow Harness:     725-04314   $6.40

Headlight Socket:  925-1649     $4.34

Bulb:                      41523          $2.92

Sub-total:               $13.66

Shipping:                $ 7.99

Sales Tax:               $ 1.87

Total:                       $ 23.52

Comments:

The connectors on the wiring harness were correct on both ends. The length was just right too.

The bulb appears to be a standard automotive 1156 part number, available at any auto parts store.

The headlight socket arrived in a green on clear plastic MTD factory parts package, marked 925-1649 and M742120 as well.

All these parts are taken from the parts list of a more expensive model #88791 that costs over $100 more but has a larger engine (277cc), larger front snow intake (28") & larger tires (16") in addition to the headlight.

The engines on both of these models are made by a Chinese firm (Zongshen) under the Powermore brand name.

I hope this helps by way of confirmation and addition.

Please let me add one thing about the model 88691:

I live on Long Island, NY and have many Sears stores within a 15 to 30 minute drive. The model #88691's on display in all 5 stores I visited had the connector for the headlight. It's a light colored (white or lt. tan) 2-pin connector that is attached to the starter-to-starter button cable with a black nylon wire tie (ny-tie).

There were no units available to purchase so I paid for and ordered one. When it arrived at the store a week later, it had no connector ... the "generator" under the flywheel had been eliminated. The store associates were kind enough to open a 2nd box that had been ordered for store stock. Same story, no connector.

I would up taking the floor model with the connector instead, thanks to a cooperative store manager. A salesman commented that he remembered a similar problem last fall ... they came in with the connector at the beginning of the season and then changed what was delivered to the same model number but with no generator / connector.

I've been with a large firm for many years and one thing is verboten. You NEVER change the part without changing the part number .... never! This is a dirty trick at best and a dishonest thing to do. Sears should look into this to protect their good name.

Hi,

I have a Sears Craftsman 26" model# 247.883700.  Can anyone tell me if this modification will work for this model and if so where the stator is located.  I would sincerely appreciate any help.

Hi Jojacar, the 88370 did not have a stator or a wiring harness for a headlight.

Hi Geno, the wire is next to the electric starter and has a white plastic plug-in on the end. The new model 247.886911 engines don't have one, but the older 247.886910 models did. Was yours new in the box or preassembled?

I went to the store today and they had some models with the same part number that had the wire and some that did not. The display was gone for the model I have and they said they are done receiving snow blowers for the year and that if they had one he would swap mine out.  Its to bad that my model number should have this accessory wire for the light and mine does not.

madgolfer,

I've been all over my model 88370 and couldn't find a wire or "alternator plug" to power the Arnold (#490-241-0009) light.  The painful part is that it was a gift and I went through the headache of mounting it first....

Is there any way to use the light with this model snowblower??

Thanks-

Steve
