Craftsman 22 in. Electric Hedge Trimmer —
I purchased these trimmers yesterday and trimmed my front hedges last night. On the plus side, they seem to have sufficient power, cut well and are fairly priced. On the negative side, I noticed three areas which could be improved. 1. The single point grip front handle has got to go. It is very difficult to comfortably hold the trimmers at a 90 degree angle while doing the side of the bushes. It is also uncomfortable to hold when horizontally trimming bushes slightly higher than chest level. The loop handle on other models is far more comfortable. 2. The requirement to constantly engage the secondary safety switch on the extended handle also makes certain trimming positions very difficult. 3. When trying to do a flat sweep over bushes wider than the length of the cutting bar, the bottom of the chain guard has a tendency to catch in the bush. This is very distracting and makes it difficult to accomplish a smooth and level cut. After taping the front switch to ON and removing the chain guard to do a non-catching level sweep, I have decided to return the trimmers for a different model.
