Craftsman 22 in. Electric Hedge Trimmer —
I just purchased the Craftsman 22" to replace an aging B&D Hedge Trimmer. I chose it over the equivalent B&D as the motor was .2 Amp stronger. While it does function, I'm disappointed in its cutting effectiveness. It will cut through larger branches (though I didn't try anything over 1/2"), it tends to strip leaves off of toothpick thick branches. I had to "saw" back and forth numberous times just to try to get a level looking cut. I may go back and purchase the B&D to compare it and replace the Craftsman. The B&D appears to have a more agressive cutting blade, and has the ability to lock the switch on. The Craftsman requires you to keep your left hand on the safety switch, which some might find inconvenient, while others might comfort in the "additional" safety. Obviously, I'm guessing on reliability, as I purchased it 2 days ago, so I'm going on observation. It appears well built, but the black plastic guard has to be screwed in with two small plastic screws. I can see them rusting and perhaps causing the guard to come loose, especially if used in any kind of damp or wet envioronment or in coastal areas, where salt spray can corrode them. The Craftsman does come with a plastic blade cover for storage, a definate plus.
