I bought this snow blower after much research. I had several criteria that I wanted met: "power steering," Briggs engine, and the cost had to be under $1000. This snow blower met all three of my criteria.
I looked into purchasing other brands like Toro and Simplicity, however, even though they are almost unanimously considered to be better machines overall, I found them all to be cost prohibitive. I personally couldn't justify spending $1300 -$1500 on a snow blower that will only be used 10X a year at very most here in CT. I found this machine to be a good buy for all of the features it has compared to similar MTD manufactured products.
Overall I like the snow blower. I've owned it for about 2 months now and have had the opportunity to use it about 7X in all different types of conditions. It works best in heavy snow, but can handle as little as an inch. It throws the snow about 20 feet or so in just about any direction, however, the chute does not rotate a full 180 degrees. I, like other reviewers, have noticed that the chute does not stay locked into position at the most extreme angles left or right. This is why I gave it a 4.
So far it's been reliable. The power steering is great. This feature alone makes maneuvering very easy compared to other machines I've used in the past without it. The Briggs engine starts on the first pull every time. The plastic chute has gotten clogged a bit, but only in very heavy, very wet snow. This is to be expected in any machine. In fact, I've found the plastic chute to be a bit better at not clogging on a regular basis compared to other metal chutes. I think this is one of those times when plastic beats metal.
Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. Hopefully it will stand the test of time.
