Good Customer Service

Craftsman 250cc 28" path Two Stage Snow Thrower —

I had planned to buy the 24" 2-stage for $599 but got a leftover from last year, a 26" with OHV Tecumseh engine for 540 instead. After 2 wks. of sitting in my garage, much of the oil had leaked out onto the floor from either a cracked block or cylinder cover/cover gasket. I returned to Sears and told the salesman I had dealt with previously. I thought he would just send out a service tech but, no, he said, "We'll send out a new one, assembled, and pick the old one up tomorrow (Sunday)". He checked the inventory and no 26" were left so he asked if I would mind taking a 28" instead at no extra charge. I had looked at the offerings at Lowe's and Home Depot before I bought at Sears. I wonder if they would have responded as well under the same circumstances. I think I know the answer. As to the unit, I would have preferred a throttle control, fuel shutoff valve, carburetor bowl drain and cable-controlled chute. But these are all minor things I can certainly live without. With service like this, I hope Sears survives. I might shop elsewhere, too, but I'm going to buy at Sears. Yes, the engine started on the first pull. If we get any snow, I'll report on the unit's function. I saw that a previous reviewer commented that the Briggs & Stratton engine was made in our Country. I think they do manufacture here, but looks like this engine is Chinese. At least they have a new factory there and the manual was printed in China.
