I purchased this machine a year ago last fall. I work overseas and when I came home for Christmas, I was greeted by 14" of snow the next day... This machine easily cleared our long drive and parking areas. The initial snowy deposit was followed by a week of 6 to 8 " daily. I was soon throwing snow into...

I purchased a new Sears 28" Snow Thrower two years ago and paid for a 5 year on site service contact.. The speed cable that controls the gear shift was fallen off twice. Each time I had to wait over three weeks for service. Sears does not stock parts. They contact the manufacturer. Then the parts... read full review »

Craftsman 250cc 28" path Two Stage Snow... Reviews

After a couple of years shoveling or paying a plow driver to move snow and leave me, leaving me the cleanup near Garage doors and both the front and back walkways to each door, I started to think that there is a better way. I checked Consumer reports and headed directly to Sears where I bought the Craftsman 250cc 28" path Snow Thrower. As Consumer Reports listed, it had more then I ever expected. I like to plug it in and use the electric starter. It starts on the first try if I have the choke set right. No trouble starting after several months of good weather, when it sits in storage either....

250cc,28" Snow Thrower

Too bad I purchased this unit so late in the season! I haven't had the chance to see what it really is capable of. We have a 100ft. driveway and it cleared it of four inches of snow in very short order. The snow thrower has exceptional power and it starts on the first pull. Assembly required only one wrench, and took just ten minutes. The instruction manual is very detailed, and includes all the information needed to operate the unit. This may sound weird, but I actually can't wait to get to use it again.

My Neighbor Has One, Now I Need One

The other day my neighbor and I were clearing snow from our driveways and I noticed he had a new Craftsman 250cc 28" path Two Stage Snow Thrower. Looking from a distance, I noticed that the machine had little problems throwing the snow exactly where it needed to go. I asked if I could give it a try and I was impressed from the first pass. The snow thrower was easy to maneuver and seemed to guide itself. Overall, the snow was thrown, the driveway was clean, I wasn't tired, so the experience was good. My only issue with the device is where to store when not in use? I, like many, have a packed garage... read full review »

Great Blower

Purchased this in early December, assumed we would get no more snow for the rest of the winter since we were prepared, however we have had ample opportunity to use this bad boy and it has been fantastic! We have a corner lot with a U shaped driveway, and this even blows through the big pile the snowplows leave at the end of the driveways. All the men in the neighborhood have snow blower envy!

Great Unit

Bought this unit over a year ago, now on my second season with it in Upstate New York. About 2 feet so far this season (December only). It throws lots of snow very far. Works great, powerful engine. Starts with one pull every time. Have not used the electric start and don't plan on it. My only recommendation would be to get the joystick-type chute controller as it's sort of a pain to stop, spin the chute, tilt down if windy, etc. However, this is a very tiny complaint that is really not a big deal. I just replaced my first shear pin last week, but my driveway is paved, no stones or irregular juts,... read full review »

Does the job

This is my second season with the unit in the Chicago area; I have a 120 foot double wide driveway with 8 parking spaces and 175 feet of front sidewalk. Brought it home in the back of a Toyota Highlander. Takes two to lift it in and out. Set-up took me about an hour; I am cautious and read the directions a few times. Followed instructions and it started right up and continues to start on the fist pull. The unit throws the snow 30+ feet as advertised. I preferred this unit to the ones with all of the enclosed cables, if you ever get water in them you are out of luck once they freeze. This... read full review »

Don't really like it

We bought this snow Thrower a couple weeks ago, and I am not a big fan of it. It is bulky and it is not easy to turn. I think that if I had a bigger driveway it would be better. We had a lot of drifting snow and instead of going through the shoot, it just pushed it forward. I hate it! It is easy to start.

So Far So Good

I just bought this last week and just in time for two snow storms. First, assembly was a breeze. Put it together in a couple of minutes. Started right up without electric start. Engine runs very smooth, but I am comparing to a very old machine I replaced. Seems to move a lot of snow in a short period of time. I was going to buy the next step up, but I think that would have been overkill. Got to use some of the reward points from my Sears charge card, so that helped a little.

Very Good Machine

I bought this snow blower after much research. I had several criteria that I wanted met: "power steering," Briggs engine, and the cost had to be under $1000. This snow blower met all three of my criteria. I looked into purchasing other brands like Toro and Simplicity, however, even though they are almost unanimously considered to be better machines overall, I found them all to be cost prohibitive. I personally couldn't justify spending $1300 -$1500 on a snow blower that will only be used 10X a year at very most here in CT. I found this machine to be a good buy for all of the features it has compared... read full review »

snow monster

I got the machine when I moved into my home, fearing the contimuation of a miserable winter. The first time I used it was to clear a rarely used driveway that had been snowed in for a couple of weeks with about 10 inches of heavy snow with a moderate crust. Machine started immediately, and in about 10 minutes I had cleared 30 feet of driveway. After the last snowstorm, I cleared the property in about 45 minutes - 6 inches of very heavy snow, 200 feet of sidewalk, and 80 feet of driveway, including a 2 inch diameter branch that had fallen during the storm. The machine stalled when the branch jammed... read full review »

Used once; looking forward to more

Thanks to 708Glenn from Hickory Hills IL for including the information about converting torque to horsepower. It's good to know how this machine compares to my old one for HP. I bought the Craftsman 88690 after the starter on my 12-year-old Noma quit on me, and I wore myself out trying unsuccessfully to start the Noma with the rope. I figured I'd rather buy a new snow blower than put new parts onto the old one (Noma 8 hp 27"), which had already served me well otherwise. All the stores in my area had been sold out of snow blowers for weeks; otherwise, I might not have come across this gem. I used... read full review »

Better than it has to be

Seems like the snow gets heavier every year. This year we decided we needed some help. Could not rationalize the high prices of Honda/Toro/Ariens. Sorted out that this was the replacement for the highly rated model in Consumer Reports. Have used it 5 times in the past month. Does a remarkable job. We've had all types of snow. The light fluffy stuff gets jettisoned about 50 feet away (at least). Even the really wet heavy snow is hurled 10-12 feet away. Once the snow was so heavy that slush clogged the discharge chute. This is very easy to unclog. So far, no problem with the dreaded sheared bolts,... read full review »

Good Machine but...

This is a great machine! It powered through the mixed snow that had landed that storm and tackled some of the older stuff that had iced up. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that after only the first use, one of the bolts that hold the handle bar to the machine, had wiggled out. After the second use, guess what happened? Yup, you got it. the second one on that side came out also! Grrrr. I called Sears and they did send out the replacement bolts. I gotta say Sears, though, I have spent way to much time making repairs to a BRAND NEW MACHINE! To prevent this happening again, I also added... read full review »
