We got this machine along with our house purchase in 2007. Although it's an earlier model, it's still basically the same as this new, 2009 model. Quite frankly, we beat the you-know-what out of this thing. It's not intentional, its just that our property is pretty rough. There's a lot of rocky areas, bumps and dips and some nasty hills. So I guess we've found just about every weak point this machine has. Here's what we've encountered.
The Number 1 failure items are the aluminum stanchion's that the mower blade drive shafts run in. I think they are made to be sacrificial and lets just say it doesn't...
read full review »I did some serious research and was always leary of the Craftsman line because of some of the reviews. When I bought our property (5 acres) we got a John Deer lawn tractor as part of the deal. Parts were needed and the cost was huge.
Ended up picking this tractor up and have run the snot out of it with no problems. It is a pleasure to use and the tractor handles the 5 acres with no problems. The shock system is much better than the John Deer. To be honest, the JD is a smaller tractor.
I feel I got my moneys worth, and am pleased with the products durability.
We recently bought a 26 horsepower 54 inch cut garden tractor. We have 61/2 acers to cut and this really decreases the time of mowing down. Our last mower was a 44 inch cut and this one beats it by miles. My husband doesn't say much except that it is "ok" but from him it is praise. When he shows me how to use it I am going to GO FOR A RIDE! It cuts very well and looks good too.
I bought a GT 5000 in summer of 2004 in 06 the motor really started smoking bad. Alot of blow by on rings it has a 25 hp. kolher motor hydro tyranny's reverse is weak with full throttle pushing dirt, stone, or snow with chains and weights. I bought attachments but they don't fit anything else if I by a different mower, so I keep an eye on oil every time I mow, and now I fogg mosquitoes with it as I mow. I do not own a 26 hp 54" garden Tractor but this was the only one to write a review on, same tractor bigger motor, they don't have a 25 hp. any more to replace in mine. Around $1600.00 to...
read full review »I made the mistake of buying one of these a few years ago. Every year I have to get a new carb - $350 installed. Why? nothing wrong with the carb. But they put some kind of a solenoid on it that corrodes out every year. Can't get it without getting a new carb.
The plow is pointless. The thing doesn't have enough grip to push anything, even with wheel weights and chains.
The mower deck has now decided to quit working all together. I'll have to waste at least two days now taking it apart to see if I can make it work again. I'm not even sure it's worth it. I have had to have this in...
read full review »All around a decent mower with one perhaps significant exception. When mowing down the slightest incline, smoke pours out the front end of the mower. That is very dissappointing. Something is clearly wrong.
