The best value out there, period.

I bought this tractor about a year ago to cut about an acre of lawn and an acre of pasture. At the same time I bought the box scraper and sleeve hitch to grade my 1/4 mile gravel dirveway. Likes: - More than enough power for cutting tall grass, grading the diveway, and pulling an 800lb-capacity dump... read full review »

DGS6500-hydro

I purchased a 2007 DGS6500 w/ 48" mower deck and Hydro transmission in May 2007. After looking at many other tractors and doing alot of research I felt this was the best value on the market. Now after 30 hours of use I have learned that I'm not a good judge of value. 40% of the time the engine just dies... read full review »

Great Machine

I've had this machine for a couple of years and use it mostly for a lawn care business. With the 54' deck I can take care of business quickly and it is easy to operate. Wet or dry this rider takes care of business quickly and when I am done I hose it off, park it under cover and just keep it serviced. I don't need anything more.

Value Plus

Just replaced my 1995 Craftsman Garden Tractor with this model. based on all the shopping I did you can't find a better value when it comes to features and power. My first occasion to use my new tractor was to move 15" of snow with the 42" snow thrower what can I say the power as great! The tractor was much more comfortable with easy to use controls. Can't wait to run it through it's paces in the spring around the yard and garden.

Outstanding Tractor

I replaced my 10 year craftsman garden tractor with this 26 hp / 54" cut garden tractor. During the summer months I mow just under an acre without any issues (tight turning radius / hydrostatic drive) and makes this chore a breeze, even my wife now enjoys this activity. In addition, I purchased a craftsman 42" snow thrower attachment this year as well. We have had numerous snow storms this year in Northern Utah and not once has my tractor not been able to handle the load (26 HP yea!). My neighbors are also glad that I purchased this attachment as well. Highly recommended tractor.

GREAT VALUE- STRONG PERFORMER

The 54 inch deck and hydrostatic drive version I bought, is wonderful to use. I have a property up in northern MN where I sometimes go a few weeks between visits, and I wanted something that could cut a "too long" lawn. Does it ever! I have a 10 acre field beyond the lawn, and found that this beast can even knock down and cut long field grass without choking down. I had a 18 HP Snapper with a 36" deck that stalled in the yard, let alone handle field grass. Tows my 2500lb pop-up camper in the driveway and yard to take out and put away from camping trips, with ease. Operates with the front dump scoop... read full review »

26 hp 54 deck

this is the third craftsman riding mower and is the most fun of all has plenty of power and turns on a dime . Starts every time and easy to operate the controls all except the reverse is hard to push all the way down and is a little slow but keeps you out of trouble in tight spots. I sell larger tractors for a living and this one does what it is made for cutting grass on a lawn not a rough field and does a very good job of it. No complaints here, you just have to use common sense and it is a great machine

Great machine

I bought this tractor one year ago and it has been great. I had looked at comparable John Deere's and Cub Cadets before deciding on the Craftsman DGS 6500. I had just purchased a newly built house with 2 acres of grass and the grass/weeds were about two feet tall. The tractor got it down to a nice, smooth 3 inch cut with two passes. Pretty impressive. I primarily use it for cutting grass, but I've also used it with a 450 pound lawn roller and a dethatcher. Yesterday, I made my first try of removing the mower deck and replacing the blades. I had no problems at all, got it done in about 45 minutes.... read full review »

Tractor Engine

I dislike my tractor. After 100 hours engine broke.

Good value

Have had the 54" model for three mowing seasons. I only mow 2/3 of an acre so I only have about 80 hours on it. For the money it's been a great machine. I leave the battery in all winter and it fires right up in the spring. I have owned two other brands, including the green painted one, and this machine is superior in all ways in my opinion. My only complaints are that it seems to burn thru the gas pretty fast and when it first arrived it did not start. Turns out a hidden wire had come undone in shipping. Like other Sears service calls it took weeks to get help.

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">I purchased the Craftsman GT 5000 26 HP/54" Garden Tractor while it was on sale and offered a 10% mail in discount. I had done research on this model and concluded that the Craftsman GT 5000 26 HP/54" Garden Tractor was the best tractor available for the price. I mow over two acres and maintain a total of 7.5 acres with this tractor. I prefer the gear shift over the hydrostatic drive models because the gear driven tractor produces more power to the wheels. Another important note is the hydrostatic drive tractors may overheat while under heavy loads and damage the... read full review »

Deck Garden Tractor 26 hp

I just purchased this tractor a month ago and living in the middle of Iowa I'm mowing every week from all the rain. I mow 1 acre or so and with the 54" deck, cut the mowing time by 1/3. My old sears mower has a 42" deck, 15.5 hp that I have had over 11 years and still works fine ,I just wanted a new bigger mower. I really like the 18" turn radius to go around bushes. The mower cuts out on hill sides from leaning in the seat. I like the foot controls, but it doesnt go fast enough forward and the reverse is hard to push because you have to push the peddle flush with the floor to get all the speed... read full review »

rough yard and no problem!!

I bought the dgs6500 model with a 48" mower deck about 6 months ago and have put 50 hours on it so far. I mow twice a week with it and about 1 acre each time. I LOVE THIS MACHINE! i used to mow with a jd 345 but had to get a new tractor. i was really used to the speed and power the jd had. But it was an 18hp with a 42" deck and the dgs 6500 is way bigger and has way more power. i love the ease of steering and speed it has. It has much more power than i need but well worth the expense. Very easy to remove deck, about 2 mins with any prying tool. Will be buying attachments for it, and HIGHLY recommend... read full review »

More than enough!

Bought the 2007 model in June '07. Hydrostat and tight turning radius are nice since I was used to a zero turn mower. I mow about 4 acres and the 54" deck works great. I can almost mow twice on a tank of gas (no trees). Pulls the box scraper just fine - plenty of horsepower although I may eventually buy the wheel weights to maximize it. The wheels spin under heavy grading load but it never bogs down for lack of power. Forward speed is plenty, even at 2/3 throttle but reverse does leave a little to be desired. It's slow, and hard to press the foot pedal. Poor design. Handles hills up, down and sideways... read full review »

RUN AWAY

I purchased this tractor with all the frils, cab, weights, chains, snow blower ect. I bought it in November 07. Used it as a snow blower until this spring. First time of use, the electric clutch switch broke. Now that it is mowing season, the rear bracket to keep the deck aligned broke off, the front mount bracket has bent from mowing to the point it no longer picks the front of the deck up. When it was new, the thing mowed like a champ, but you cant keep parts on this cheaply built machine. The slightest bounce on the seat will kill it as the safety switch is WAY too sensitive. The 54" deck hangs... read full review »

Good Machine

I purchased the 28846 in early Oct 08 along with wheel weights, chains, heav duty scraper blade, sleeve hitch, and cultivater. I now have over 25 hours on it. I've used the yellow cub and found the 846 performs better all around. The reverse is faster on the 846. As is typical with all riding mowers and garden tractors the mowing deck drags on raised surfaces, just raise it and keep going. The weights and chains enable the tractor to handle the scraper and cultivater with amazing results. Even in muddy red dirt it'll push and pull with no difficulty. The gas comsuption is better than my snapper... read full review »
