Purchased snow blower two years ago and have had no difficulty in starting it or running it. Works great with fluffy picture perfect snow but I was pleasantly surprised that it had enough oomph to push the wet heavy snow. Doesn't throw it as far as the light stuff but if you keep it going it will clear a sidewalk or driveway with out clogging. You stop and then you must manually clear the wet snow plug that forms in the chute.
...

Gearing up for our 3rd winter in New Jersey. The past two gave us four huge snowstorms each year. We purchased this snow thrower the day after the first huge storm in December, '09. (Getting to the Sears Hardware store in an SUV was a lesson in futility in itself!) They had two machines remaining, a 26", and this 28". In the time we entered the store, in which there was only one other shopper and two salespersons, and the manager, the 26" was sold to the other shopper. We grabbed the 28" along with the cover, they helped us load it in our SUV, and we slowly drove back home.

We unloaded is out on our street in front of our house, I went and brought out some gas, and I started using it on our driveway. THIS THING IS SCARY-GOOD! It took a minute or two to get the hang of it, adjusting the speed and choke controls, but it cut through the snow like nobody's business. Blacktop on the first pass, and we're talking snow up to my thighs.

The other thing that comes to mind is that... it's... FUN...
...

Bought this model snowblower last month. It was a closeout leftover unit from last year and I bought it at lower than advertised price. The machine offers a lot of features for a reasonable price and I was satisfied with the purchase. Until it snowed. I started and tested the machine when I first purchased it, three weeks prior to Dec10 blizzard. . All functioned well except I had to replace the headlight lampholder as the original had both securing tabs broken off from when the store initially assembled the machine. No big deal, did not want to deal with headache of getting part replaced under warranty, so I purchase online for $15.00 and replaced myself. Machine functioned well. I was very impressed with how nice the Chinese 277cc motor started and ran. The day of the storm I started the snowblower and the drive wheels would not engage. I could not believe it. Outdoor mechanical work in a blizzard !!! I wish I had a garage. Removed the shroud and saw the drive belt was all chewed up......

We had a tremendous winter 09-10 in southern PA near the Mason Dixon Line with three snowstorms that dumped between 24-30 inches each. This unit cut through the snow like it was butter. After 3 blizzards in one season I can say it was well worth the money. If it can handle a 30 inch snowfall on a large 60 foot driveway, it can handle anything a homeowner would throw at it.
...

After last winters' record 32 inches of snow fall here in Maryland, I came to the conclusion that my 8 year old 24" $450 snow thrower was no match for it. Unfortuantely, it was impossible to find a good snow thrower once the snow had fallen. I did my research and found that **************** rated this model as a "********", and listed all of the great features you get for the usually highly discounted price of around $880. I read reviews from all over the internet about this model, and the vast majority of owners were very pleased with the performance, quality, and features of this machine. It is made by a reputable company who sells this basic model (with subtle differences) to several other manufacturers and retailers under various names. I also read many reviews from the owners of those competitive brands. 80% of all reviews for the machine were 4 to 5 star ratings. I wanted something that would shorten my time for clearing my asphalt driveway, sidewalks, and parking area. My old snow...
...

Great piece of equipment. Headlamp burned out, but never use blower in the dark. Notice that I did not give 5 star rating. Reason for that is that there is always room for improvement. This is definitly an adult machine, so no kids. Care must be taken when backing. Love the power turning. Really moves the snow with little effort. Had a little difficulty putting it together, and the shear pin clips really suck. Poor design on them. Overall I give this blower a 9.5.
...

Higher Price does not always mean higher quality in the snowblower world. After only 5 seasons of use my competitor snowblower seized up during the first part of what was to be the worst three weeks of snow of the 2009-2010 winter.

I'm one who thoroughly researches for hours on end when I spend my money to insure I'm getting the best product for my money. We have a partial pebble driveway and I have a tendency to shear pins, bend augers and chute because the height adjustment was never very good on my brand X. I spent hours online and going to look at shops looking at new and used from Honda, Toro, Areins, Yard Man etc. I almost spent the extra money to buy an Ariens at over 1/3 the cost more until the shop I donated my old one showed up to collect my failed blower. They had 3 newer model Ariens on board already and 3 more to pick up. Despite the urgings of the orange faithful that the product is bulletproof, The fact that 3 broke ones are sitting in front of me told me that they are high...
...

I bought my snow-blower in January 2010 when were were suffering through some 100 year snowstorms in the mid-west. I had used a Toro snow-thrower(single stage) for 17 years but it was not up to the task of 5' snow drifts. My machine came assembled, oiled and almost ready to go. It's size took some getting used to but it made clearing our driveway and sidewalk much easier. Overall if I had to buy this product again I would EXCEPT for my below listed beef.

At the time I bought this snow-blower it had a rebate for the snow-blower and the service plan I selected. I followed the directions and submitted the required information on-line through Sears to get my rebate in January 2010. As of today I have not received my rebate and it's status is still pending. When I checked with the rebate center they said I was due a rebate but that the "finance department" had put a hold on it. When I complained to corporate HQ for Sears in Illinois I was told that the rebate Department...
...

It was exciting to purchase this snow thrower during the Sears end-of-season sale 3/2010. I haven't actually used the thrower for snow removal. However, once removed from the box and assembed I found the following parts missing and or items not functioning correctly.

Please, do not buy a Craftsman snow thrower. This is the third and final time I'm going to ever work on this snow thrower. I've had it. I am an ex-aircraft mechanic of over 8 years. I never wanted to be a snow thrower mechanic. The following problems occurred within 6 months after the expiration of my 2 year limited warranty. I apologize for being technical. I just wanted you to understand the many different issues I had and not just say, "It's bad. Don't buy it."

One note - even when operational, IMHO, it was just mediocre. Starts very easily.

First, there are two handles, one engages the auger (left) and the other drives it forward (right.) When both are engaged, you can let go of the left (auger) and it will stay in the engaged position (down.) This is so you can use your left hand to make adjustments to the chute direction or angle and not have to stop the auger. This feature stopped working. If I let go of the left handle it would pop up and the auger would...
...

I bought this machine to clear large quantities of snow. I returned this machine when I saw the limited distance the chute allows the machine to throw the snow.

The machine is acceptable in it's materials though thicker metal on the auger would be great. I worry about what would happen if you picked up a rock and sent it through the plastic chute.

Steering and turning are a dream with the machine. This machine is also much more quiet than my last Craftsman thower.

If you need to tthrow the snow more than 25 feet to clear across a driveway you may want to think about something else. The angle of the chute appears to be the reason for the lmited thow distance. Hopefully the manufacture will redesign the chute for better throwing and longer life.
...

After the snowplow came by and cleared the roads, I was able to use this snowblower to cut through the big compacted snow bank they left across our driveways.

The quality of the machine is obvious once you use it a while. It has the electric start, but I've never used it since starts with a quick pull on the starter rope, even though the garage where it is stored is not heated.

Part of the ease of using this snowblower is the power steering - forward and reverse, which means you never have to wrestle with the machine to get it going where you need. Even at high speed, the machine doesn't vibrate your hands, and there is no struggle adjusting the snow discharge chute like other...
...

I recently purchased this snow blower in anticipation for the upcoming storm dubbed (Snowmageddon 2010). I never owned a snow blower and this is my first experience using one. I will comment on my entire experience from purchasing the snow blower to using it.

The Purchase
