Great for infrequent users - no worrying about charging batteries after it has set idle for extended period of time. Plenty of power for the money. Difficult to control power -- sometimes drill screws in too deep. Wish it had a built in light. Good carrying case, but it is too big. The big case would be ok if it had some useful storage space for a bit case or other accessories.
...

lacj says "Chinese Craftsman Drill is a Disappointment" about Craftsman 28126 6.5 amp Corded 3/8&#34 Pro Rear Handle Drill

My disappointments:

1. The drill speed lock switch is WORTHLESS. It only locks on at full speed (yeah good luck at planting that drill bit on wood or metal at 2500 rpm, your bit will wander everywhere)! All the other Craftsman drills I have are 15-25 years old, made in the U.S.A., and have the turn knob in the trigger switch that allows the user to infinitely adjust the lock on speed to any rpm. Even my cheap $12 drill has this feature.

2. The so-called level is out of calibration. Not even close. You can check for square by puttin a builders level up to the chuck (bit holder) face at 90 degrees. The drill I received drills at an upwards angle when it says it's level.

3. It's made in CHINA. It's the first Craftsman drill I ever bought that was not made in the USA. Bummer! If I wanted a Chinese made drill, I would have gone to one of Craftsman's competitors. The 2 plastic body halves are of different red colors! What's up with that ?

4. 2500 rpm ? Who needs 2500 rpm ? 1500 rpm max is...
...

I'll preface this by saying that I bought this drill on sale and used my Craftsman Club bonus, so I only paid $40. At that price, it absolutely cannot be beat. I didn't necessarily need this drill since I already have several cordless drills, but it's nice to have a corded one in the event I need more juice or the batteries go out. And like I said, for $40 this is a must-have.

Here's my first impressions after using it this afternoon while doing some different tasks in the garage... The drill is very light considering how much power it has. It doesn't feel any heavier than my Craftsman 19.2V C3 cordless drill and it was very comfortable to hold. The grip is very nicely shaped and the drill has good balance. The drill made very short work of all the drilling/screwing I did this afternoon, though I will caution that driving screws requires a very soft trigger pull or you'll just strip the head. The fact the drill looks wickedly cool is just icing on the cake.

I do have some nit-picks, but...
...

I purchased this as a replacement for my 25 year old Craftsman drill that, while powerful, was heavy and had a keyed chuck that wasn't very conducive to working quickly and easily. The grip on the 28126 is ergonomic and comfortable, with a rubberized cover. the trigger delivers only the power you need depending on how much you squeeze it. All in all, this is a great drill, and if it didn't have a keyless chuck, I'd buy two. Plus, the red body is awesome. It looks as good as it performs....

My previous drills aren't in the same league as this drill. My last drill, a big name that alot of contractors use, was a dismal disappointment. It also fried just outside their warranty. Even if they had extended the warranty for me, I wouldn't want it. The speed control was anything but and it was awkward to handle.

When I decided on a new drill, my first choice was a Craftsman Pro. I know, from experience, you get your money's worth. Like instead of sleaves, you get actual bearings. Well, what I've found in this drill is good balance, smooth operation, and outstanding speed control.

I would highly recommend this drill for anyone wanting a corded drill... it really delivers the goods!
...

"Here's my take: I've owned a few cordless drills and they always seem to disappoint. They often don't have enough power to get the job done, the batteries are always running low, and the batteries seem to only last 1-2 yrs. Why spend $200 on a top of the line 18v drill that will only last 2yrs when you can buy this drill for $60 and it will work great your entire life. Buy this thing and then go pick up a $30 cordless for those times that you need the convenience. Bam, you're still in for $100 less than the top of the line cordless drill and you have two tools!
...

It also does a good job of putting in and removing screws, which is laborious to do with a screw driver. All in all it is a great drill for the money!"

Great drill for the weekend enthusiast. Excellent drill for weekend furniture making projects, as it both drills and drives very well. Another plus is that this one is definitely the drill especially for someone who would like to purchase a nice, yet affordable drill on a budget. I've had mine now for about 6 months. I also like the weight. Very light. Just right for ordinary drilling and driving. However, this is NOT an industrial grade tool and therefore it will not take the heavy use or abuse as one would. But for weekend projects, it can't be beat.
...

This drill is only 2 weeks old and I have only used it a few times but I can tell you that it does have a good feel and balance. The power is very controllable with the trigger which also has a nice light feel. The handle is comfortable. The light to tell you if it is plugged in is a nice feature.

I loaned it to my friend to drill something on his truck and he also liked it.

Great 6Amp power drove the holes I needed, but then noticed it doesnt have a torque-limiter. So looks like I have two drills for two different purposed. No worries... each have their benefits. I'll keep the 9.6v/12v cordless in the house and the corded in the basement for when I need it.

I bought this drill mostly to help me polish my aluminum wheel on my truck, and let me tell you it works great! It has alot of rpm's which allows the compounds to cut faster which saves time. I tried to use cordless; however the battery would die to fast. The only problem i found was with the chuck. I had to drill out some hardened ex hast bolts out of my exhaust manifolds and the drill bits keeped turning in the chuck. Granted i know that this is a thought job for any drill; however if they could build the chuck to have a better grip on the bit. My air powered one did do a better job at this. The only other problem was the weight, it needed to be better balanced for easier control. Besides that its a great drill, it continues to work great after long uses.
...

This summer I wanted to put some deck lights up and found a wonderful set of low-voltage LED lights that fit the bill. The only problem was they had to be mounted underneath the lip of the deck and required drilling out holes to fit them into. Though we had two different cordless Craftsman drills, because of the thickness of the wood they just couldn't handle the job. So off to Sears I went to see what type of corded drills they had.

I stumbled across this Craftsman Professional drill and was impressed by the price point so decided to give it a try. I would not be dissapointed. This drill has enough power to put an entire house together without stopping! It's by far one of the most powerful power tools in my garage! Combined with the comfort grip handle you will find that you can go for a long time without having to stop due to hand fatigue.
