Good machine, Better with modifications

Good machine, Better with modifications I am pleased with the unit but I had to make some modifications to make it more balanced and less strenuous to use.--- First and foremost, this machine is to heavy to be sold without a shoulder strap. Adding a shoulder strap, in the correct position on the boom,... read full review »

Most Helpful Critical Review
I bought this trimmer because of all the great reviews. I'm sad to say that mine will be going back to Sears. The head design on this model allows tall grass and weeds (over 12") to get rapped around the rotating shaft between the shield and the string head. Get enough of them rapped around it and the... read full review »

Craftsman 29cc 4 cycle Gas Trimmer Reviews

Starts right up ... normally, but the worse of it is changing line every 2 min. I have to carry extra pieces of string and change every few feet. You throw half away from each piece of 16 inch. Mine is new and I dislike it with a passion and am looking for a bump feed attachment. Steer clear of this one - Craftsman missed the mark.

Excellent...4 Stroke!

I've been replacing my two stroke tools as they wear out with 4 stroke motors, and this line trimmer is outstanding! I've been using it for about three months now, and it's worked like a charm every time. I make sure to let it idle before shut down, and not let it run out of gas, and it has started up the next time, hot or cold, on the first pull. It does not seem to go through line that fast, and it is cutting through everything on my 5 acres.

Plenty of Power...

I just purchased this model today and used it for the first time. It was very easy to put together right out of the box. Directions were relatively clear. I followed the instructions to the tee and it started up immediately. It had plenty of power to get the job done on a 1/2 acre lot of land. I do agree with other posters as it is weighty. A shoulder strap would have helped negate this shortfall. Overall, it did a great job!

not a lot of power

I had this but returned it. The motor did not have enough power to turn the cutting head fast enough to "weed whack." I don't know if it was the 4 cutting lines or the lack of horsepower. I went back to a 2 cycle motor variety (the Sears 33cc model) and it was much better. Also, this 4 cycle model gas tank was tougher to fill since I had a big 5 gallon gas can. I have a 1 gallon gas can for 2 cycle use, which makes it much easier to fill. So if you insist on a 4 cycle, you probably need to invest in a smaller gas can too.

If ever there ever was junk this is it.

I was able to use this last summer twice it worked great. I took it off the wall this morning and used it for five minutes it died. I spent the rest of the day trying to keep it running. I spent the last thirty years repairing engines and related items. This is no better than any other brand, use it once or twice and spend the next year trying to start it. I consider this to be a class A piece of garbage. That is where it is at now anyway.

Great unit - would buy again

I dislike having 2 stroke gas/oil mix around for one power tool, when I have 4 other power tools that are 4-stroke, so this is one of the main reason I purchased this unit. I also love the idea of interchangeable attachments. After opening the box, adding the oil and priming, it started after 4-5 pulls. After that first use, it usually starts on the second pull. I have used it for three months now and zero problems. The throttle is well positioned, and allows very precise control, allowing low speed for close-in work and more speed for heavier cutting. When idling, the string does not move, which... read full review »

Worth the Money

When I first moved into my house, I bought the 12-inch battery powered Craftsman yard trimmer because I didn't want to drag around an electrical cord. What a mistake that was. I should have spent the money the first time on this model. There are eight different attachments that can be changed out with the line trimmer. I bought the steel edging blade attachment to get the precision straight line along the sidewalk and driveway so now I can get cut faster and straighter. As long as there is fuel in the priming bulb, it fires on the second or third pull nearly every time. I bought this model because... read full review »

Too Heavy / Cutting Swath 14"

I generally rate Craftsman badged tools fairly high and Sears does stand behind them, which has become a rarity. However my experiences with this trimmer was less than stellar. I was replacing a 8-9 year old 4 stroke Ryobi that has worked like a champ and still does run but I broke the cable in the trimmer shaft so thought "hey" it's time for a new trimmer. I shopped the reviews and prices and this model looked to be a decent value in the 4 stroke line. Yet I was very disappointed. I haven't weighed my old Ryobi but this Craftsman unit is HEAVY. An optional strap helped but what a back breaker.... read full review »

great so far

I purchased this product yesterday to replace a 33cc 2 cycle craftsman trimmer. I must say that i was going to steer away from craftsman on this purchase because of such bad service from the old trimmer. I brought my new trimmer home, read the owners manual, filled the oil, put on the trimmer attachment, and filled it with gas. I pushed the gas bulb 10 times as in the directions, and it started on the 1st pull. WOW!!! This thing has as much or more power than the 33cc 2 cycle, hardly vibrates at all, and it very quiet. I trimmed for about 2 hours on grass, weeds, briars, and small trees. It did... read full review »

I bought this trimmer in hopes of the holy grail of trimmers... not... The trimmer seems to have a balance problem.

It started no problem but when given the gas it would wobble almost  uncontrollably. Only after full throttle did the wobble stop. I wasn't going to wait for it to fall apart on me so I brought it back after about 20 feet of using the line trimmer. I would not recomend this trimmer!

started once

I bought this trimmer after about 3 weeks of research and shopping. Got home added the oil and gas and it started right up. I used it very briefly because it had just started to rain. The next day I cut my lawn then got my trimmer out, and nothing, it would not start. Very frustrating, but should have been aware of all the clearance weed trimmers on sale at that sears store. I'm going with one of the commercial grade trimmers and not a craftsman. It was a shame because I have had alot of success with other craftsman products. Hopefully it was a fluke, but I wasn't going to find out

Solid purchase

I went with this trimmer for the convenience of not mixing oil and gas. Starts up right away with the electric start or first or second pull. Have used it three times. Happy with the power. The weight doesn't seem to bother me but my yard is not huge. I've been happy with my purchase so far.

Not that great of a Weedwacker

The 4-cycle engine starts right up and sounds cool, but just does not rev high enough. The trimmer strings are a joke. One pass around the yard and it's time for new strings, of which half are wasted inside the trimmer head. If I would have known that I probably would not have purchased this model. Too bad I threw away the box ,cant return it now!!!
