GARAGE DOOR OPENER MODEL # 139.53990D: SEARS REFUSES TO HONOR WARRANTY

I have spent $,5000.00 at my local SEARS store in MUNCY PA and I will never go back again after this experience.

I purchased the garaged door opener captioned above on 11/14/05.  I have constantly had problems with it.  The light does not go out, it will not work well in temperatures under 20 degrees and this week the remotes will not work at all -even after replacing the batteries.

In review of my warranty, it clearly states the following: "From the 91st daty until five years (which is where my purchase is), Sears will furnish replacement parts for any defective parts free of charge.  Labor not included.  I figured the problem must be in the receiver logic board part # 41AC175.  i took the entire motor unit down to the MUNCY PA SEARS store  to the RETURN desk and walked in with the warranty, motor unit and receipt in my hands.  I spoke with four clerks and manager forcing me to tell my store at least three times.  Instead of any one of them trying to help me, they were too busy trying to force me into having a technician come to my house for $90.00 to tell me what I already know.  You would have swore the warranty was written in a foreign language judging the way the clerks and management avoided reading or even being familiar with it.  My 76 year old mother in law with osteo arthritis lives with me and she can't get in or out of the garage without the assistance of the opener and it would likely break her back if she tried to open it without the opener.  I explained all of this to MELINDA at the MUNCY PA SEARS location and she could have cared less - she was still trying to force the technician on me.  The warranty doesn't state I have to purchase their technician services that I don't need but it does state they will replace the defective parts.  When Melinda realized I was not going to pay for the techinician to come to my house in a week or two to tell me what I already knew, she tossed some sort of refrigerator magnet to me told me to call them to get the problem resolved.  She clearly was not going help.  THANKS FOR NOTHING MELINDA!

Last night I made a final appeal to SEARS to stand behind their products instead of hidiing behind excuses. I have not had the courtesy of a response yet.  In summary, after spending $5,000.00 they want to screw me for a $200.00 opener.  Unless they make good on this warranty claim which is clearly within the scope of the warranty, I will never buy another item from SEARS again.  It is no wonder they are loosing market share with such POOR CUSTOMER SERVICES.  They really should be ashamed.

Same problem. Three weeks after I had the unit one year. In other words, they wouldn't honor the warranty because I hadn't purchased the service warranty.
I read the manual/troubleshoot section and knew that the logic board had failed. In my case, I did have the technician come to my home. He arrived sloppy and dirty, looking like he had been sleeping in a ditch all night. He didn't even know how to open the unit. I told him the logic board had failed, and after twenty minutes, during which I had to get him my ladder, show him how to open the unit, show him where the logic board was, show him the manual, he said, "Yes, the logic board is bad" and charged me $63 dollars for a housecall. I lodged the first of many complaints, going up the ladder as far as I could. No one really listened. Their constant answer, I should have bought a service warranty. When I told them that this problem was reported many times on the internet and that maybe their was a defect in the part as manufactured, they were not willing to listen and denied that there was any problem. My argument was that if I bought the top of the line garage door opener, for $330, it shouldn't fail within the thirteenth month. My argument that they owed me something, as a faithful Sears customer (I have one of the earliest Sears Credit Cards, stating I have been a customer since 1974, and purchased stuff from them long before that) made no impact. I have not bought a thing from Sears since then, and don't plan to ever go in the store again. I notice now they have a replacement logic board. So much for customer service and loyalty!

I just had a similar problem today. Kenmore dishwasher tub started to leak. The warrany states under the section covering lifetime warranty of the tub: "Sears will replace free of charge the tub or inner door panel." I've spent hours on the phone today getting the runaround from countless Sears folks. Their answer: I could buy the part myself for $400, or get the part for free and pay a $129 service charge + labor. What a scam! How does that equate to "will replace free of charge"?? I will never buy a Sears/Kenmore product again. There are plenty of other companies out there with excellent customer service. Sears is definitely not one of them.

The exact same thing happened to me, with the exact same part, the exact same response at the My-Home number, and the exact same response in the store.

UNSAT.
