Craftsman 31pc Impact Drill and Drive Set —
I purchased the Craftsman 31-pc. Impact Drill and Drive set back when I picked up a 20V Lithium Driver/Drill and Lithium Impact Driver set. I noticed the operative words "Impact quality nutsetters & adapters" are now missing from the title of this product on the website, however. I think that is the most important feature - impact quality. As I learned, my impact drive really puts out some torque (see my other review) and I was tired of the sub-grade cheap bits that wear almost instantly. It is sooo frustrating. I needed something that was convenient and would last with me thru the projects at home. I don't need industrial grade, but I certainly want durable.
I found the set contained the basic bits (fastening, drilling, adapters) that I would use for many things. What I didn't expect were the conveniences of a couple of the "little" things that can be so easily overlooked.
The first "plus" is the Speed-Lok quick feature included in the set. It is so nice to drill out a hole and then switch over to screw or hex socket for putting in larger screws or lags with barely a thought. Even though the drill has a quick speed chuck, this makes it even more convenient for changes. No messing around with loosening and retightening of bits here! The impact driver has a 1/4 collet and not a chuck, though, so I could not use the Speed-Lok adapter with it. (Hint to Craftsman - MAKE A SPEED-LOK for the impact drive, please.) :-) The set has a couple of hex-to-square adapters so I was able to use the adapter with my impact drive. I just put a socket on the adapter and then I could put bits into the socket.
The other feature I found really nice was actually the storage kit itself. I never thought I would write a positive review about a container! HA. This is usually the first thing you toss out because it breaks or falls apart. This little container is sturdy and arranges all the bits for very easy access. A real plus when your hands are full or busy holding the drill and trying to select another bit. Inside is a little storage pocket with a lid and it was great for holding the screws and bits while I working on the project. How many times have you set a small item down and then went searching for it after it rolled away? hahaha. I'm laughing now, but it's not funny when you are working on something.
The only thing more I would ask for in this kit was to have more items in it. I could certainly find more projects for the extra bits. HA. The one problem I found with the kit was the closing clasp. It is a flexible piece of plastic that fits over both edges at the opening and is pressed in place. It is a little tight to work and is not attached to the case so if it pops off or you set it down, it can go missing. Not really a big issue and it certainly doesn't take away from the usability of the tools inside, but room for improvement with this part. The kit is small enough to store in the bag with my drills/drives or put in my Craftsman storage cart drawers.
Durable, convenient, fast. We have a winner!
