Craftsman 4 Ton Low Profile/High Lift Service Jack Reviews

I've had this jack for 2.5 years.  It started leaking about a year and a half in, but still worked.  Then yesterday (2.5 years after purchase) the seals blew out and puked the hydraulic fluid on my garage floor, leaving my car stranded on jack stands.  Luckily it isn't my daily driver. I brought it to Sears assuming that since it is the Professional line of Craftsman tools it would have a lifetime warranty. Boy was I wrong! 1 year warranty.  I guess Sears no longer stands by their products like they used to.  I'm now going to ************** to get a $60 jack.  This way if it breaks after...

This jack is junk.  I'm a driveway mechanic. I use the jack about 10 times a year. I've had the jack about 4 years and the lift unit just blew out. A friend of mine bought one about the same time and his lift unit is starting to leak.

Absolute piece of junk.  Used maybe 4 times and it belched fluid all over my garage floor.  Tried to refill it, but it still does not work.  Called Sears to see if they will warranty it and I was just out of warranty by a few months.  They will not work with you at all because they know this thing has problems.  Should have read the reviews before I bought.  I will never buy anything with the craftsman name or from sears again.

I purchased this jack because it appeared to be a good jack and it was a Sears brand but i will never buy any Sears tools again,  after 5 uses the oil seal broke and by that time it was one year old. Sears will not stand by their product.  Guess i will take it in for scrape metal and get someting back.

This is my 3rd Craftsman floor jack, begining with one in the early 80's, one in the late 90's and now this one in 2010. I bought this jack due to the low profile and high lift height.  I'm pretty cheesed off with it because the handle on it is way to long... like over 6'.  Does not seem to have the greatest quality (Made in China). Ergonomics of this jack are also not very well thought out.  After buying this jack and using it once I rebuilt my 1990's professional craftsman jack and am happier with it.

I agree w/ most comments below. I too read the posts and bought this jack anyway. Big mistake! It worked ok for winter wheel swap outs on a few cars for about a year then it started to leak. The hydraulic seal failed after I got my car on stands. I then used an unsafe method to lower the car and it fell on me. I dislocated my wrist and broke some bones due to my mistake. It was my fault but didn't have to happen if this tool was not so poorly made. Beware.

Terrible product

I've had this jack for about 3 years, & it leaked internally since the FIRST use. I talked to the Sears store where I purchased it, & they would not take it back, but suggested I send it to the service center & very helpfully gave me the address. Considering this jack weighs in at about 80lbs, that was not an option. I've never lifted anything but a 4 door passenger car & now it's completely failed. I cannot find a repair or cylinder replacement kit anywhere.

I should have read the reviews before I bought this. It is JUNK. In the store the jack worked fine with no weight on it. As soon as you start jacking the car, you have to pump the handle at least ten time to get the car to move one inch. DO NOT buy this!!!

Piece of TRASH

I truthfully did not want to believe others with the problems described. Yes I bought it. WHAT A BIG MISTAKE! What ever happened to Sears quality? You got it this piece of junk leaks. And get this; the floor jack would NOT walk as the truck (1/2 ton) was being jacked up. The jack was firmly centered on the frame. I found it half off the frame when I reached the desired height. THIS ITEM IS DEFINENTLY A SAFETY HAZARD AS WELL AS A HUGE PAPER WEIGHT!

1 star

I was extremely unhappy with this jack as soon as I took it out of the box. For one it's extremely bulky and when I tried to move it around my garage, the casters got stuck so the wheels left black marks everywhere. I have a 2 1/4 Craftsman Jack that I've had for 6 years & I've never had a problem with it. I would not recommend buying this jack!

For $189 I was hoping this jack would last a while. For a 4-ton jack it never felt all that strong but did work okay with minor oil leakage now and then. Last week after using it all of the oil poured out rendering it useless.

I took it apart to see if I could fix it, and it seems like a very simple o-ring blew out on the power unit. I decided to put it back together and try to just get a new one as exchange.

I brought it back with no receipt and was able to exchange it for a new one. In fact, I think that since I have the receipt now, I will just make it a point to exchange it before the warranty...

I used this jack about a dozen times, seal blew out when I was lifting the front of an S10, so maybe 1/8th of its advertised capacity. Not to mention this is the heaviest jack I've ever used (says something about your engineering department). Truck dropped on top of me as I removed jack stands. Sears refused to replace or even fix the jack. Sorry Sears and Craftsman, you have lost a once loyal customer of many years. I'm going to turn in my broken ratchets for free replacements and never buy a Craftsman tool again.

THIS JACK GIVES THE IMPRESSION THAT ITS WELL MADE BUT IN REALITY ITS POORLY CONSTRUCTED.  AFTER USING THE JACK LESS THAN 10 TIMES, THE SEALS TO THE HYDRALICS LEAK AND THE JACK NO LONGER WORKS.  I DO NOT RECOMMEND PURCHASING THIS JACK.  AFTER CALLING SEARS SEVERAL TIMES FOR A REPLACEMENT SEAL KIT AND GIVING THEM ALL THE NUMBERS OFF THE JACK AND FINDING IT ON THEIR WEBSITE THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE ANY INFORMATION ON THIS PRODUCT AND WAS NO HELP AT ALL.  I AGREE WITH ALL THE OTHER NEGATIVE REVIEWS THAT HAVE BEEN WRITTEN.

This jack fails very quickly.

Within about three uses of this jack it started to leak oil.  It was still usable for about 6 months after it started leaking, but it would leave a very annoying hydrolic fluid stain on my driveway and garage floor.  I never used it to lift anything over 2 tons, so it was well under its rating.  Now, after about a year, it completely failed by dumping all its fluid and is no longer operable.  Do not purchase this jack.   I feel that any jack, even a no-brand, will last longer than this jack.  At the very least you will save some money.

I bought this jack a little over a year ago.  A little before that it started to leak fluid and it was not so much so I figured no big deal.  3 months later I change my oil on my car and then the jack just started dumping out more and more fluid all over my garage floor.  I have never had problems like this with a floor jack.  Before I had a no name random brand floor jack and I thought this time I would go for a craftsmen since they have a good name and good tools which I also have.  I thought the warrenty would cover this but no way of course it breaks right when the warrenty was up. ...
