We searched, read the reviews and decided this was the one to buy. We have not been disappointed. Took out 10 trees the first time I used it. From 3 inch to 12 inch, cut them up for fire wood. Not so much as a belch. "I love my new Chainsaw". I've had Poulan saws in the past, but they didn't compare to the Craftsman. I'd buy another if this one goes down. But from the way this one performs I doubt if it will happen for quite awhile
Just got this saw today so take this for what it's worth. I cut down about 10 small trees (between 4" and 10" diameter) and about 10 bushes today. It worked perfectly. Get a 100' 12/3 cord, the highest quality you can afford, and you won't mind dragging it around. The cord is a small price to pay for not having to deal with a gasoline engine. No oil to mix and nothing special to do when you store it for the season (besides normal chain maintenance). The 4hp motor ran like a champ, didn't bog down or groan at me once. Unless you are a lumberjack, do yourself a favor and buy an electric...
read full review »purchased this for hubby to spend his weekends cleaning out the scrub oak on 5 acres of property. I used the Sears layaway plan and paid in installments, so it sat at the store and made it an extra surprise for him as he did not know he was getting it for his birthday. He travels as far as he can with an outdoor extension cord hooked up to the house. Then he uses his trusty converter in the pickup to take it further in the depths of the unknown, working creative measures under the scrub oak pieces, sized anywhere from 2 inches to 14 inches round. This little dandy keeps him busy most the weekend!...

read full review »I bought this chainsaw after using my Craftsman 18" gas model for 15 yrs. It finally gave out an wouldn't run right anymore. I took it out of the box, put oil in it and cut a huge pile of wood in no time. I cut through many tree trunks that were larger than 18" in diameter. The saw never slowed down or struggled, plenty of power and torque. It is much lighter than my gas saw so I didn't have lower back pain like I usually do after cutting a lot of wood. No gas & oil mixing either. This is a really great product that I would recommend to anyone that wants to cut wood.
This is a lean mean machines. Love it.
If you are looking for a solid budget saw that will get the job done with very little maintenance, you won't find a better deal than the Craftsman 4HP 18" Electric Chain Saw! This saw didn't miss a beat on a 120+ year old 40ft newly dying walnut tree!
PROS:
Purchased this chainsaw to help out with the many trees on my property. I have an electric 14" chainsaw and wanted to get something with more power. I read the manual complete because this one was slightly different from the regular chainsaws. The saw had plenty of power and torque to get the job done. It cut through 12" logs rather easily. However, the reason I'm only giving 2 stars is because of the frequent annoyances of having to readjust the chain tension after a few cuts. As soon as I would finish with a thick cut I would notice the chain dangling loosely off the bar. I had to stop, unplug,...
read full review »This chainsaw is a beast! It worked great, when it was working. I used it for cutting down a dozen or so large branches, and everything in between.
Fired it up this season and it still worked great, for about 15 minutes. Then it started to cut out. It did that for a couple minutes then just stopped working.
I opened it up, cleaned it out, and found that one of the motor brushes was no longer making a connection. The copper braid that is attached in the carbon brush had simply broken off. Easy fix, right? Replace the brush.
Went onto www.searspartsdirect.com to find or order a new set of brushes....
read full review »The Craftsman 18 inch Model # 34118, Electric Chainsaw, 4 hp, replaced an older model Sears saw that experienced motor failure. The newer saw will handle most trees and brush that would be located on a forested residential lot. I have removed and cut up numerous trees up to 22 inch diameter pines and 16 inch diameter oaks. It is powerful enough to handle any task one might encounter when properly handled and the motor and chain kept in good operating condition. It can also be used to rough cut fence posts or treated deck material or similar projects. It is easy to store and maintenance...
read full review »The chain saw works great. The issue is that if you put more chain bar oil than you need for the cutting you are doing. The rest leaks out of the reserve. This leaves an oil mess where you set the chain saw down.
