This saw had good power. It cuts really well. I purchased this saw because of the longer bar length. The saw I purchased seemed to need the oil filled up after four or five cuts. It was going through a great deal of oil for the cutting I was doing. After I used it the second time, the auto oiler went out and it used NO oil at all thus causing the chain to get hot. All in all got about 5 hours use out of it. Took it back and got refund. I would prefer a manual oiler like the Remingtion 14" which is a workhorse for the money.

Get the extended warranty if you buy this chainsaw--because it most likely will break down. Wanted to replace with the same model of saw, but I don't think the auto oiler is up to par or designed to last for too long.
...

After going through review and reivew of many different types of electric chainsaws I decided on this one. For the price it performs just as good, if not better than its bigger gas brothers, and no messing with mixing gas! So far I used it for one 3 to 4 hours period cutting hard wood like it was butter. I had no problem with power, no problems with using an extension cord, I used a fairly decent 50 foot cord running off a 20 amp outlet. It easily cut through logs that were up to 8"-10" in diameter, with most of the wood in 6"-8" diameter range. It is also much quieter than a gas saw. I will no longer be bringing the gas saw out of the shed instead will be using the electric.
...

Wasnt sure what to expect but i personally cant stand tools with small little tiny engines(like on a trimmer) that are more work than they are worth. Tried this electric powerhouse and was pleasantly surprised at its effectiveness. We got slammed after the Halloween storm and had many downed trees. This saw went through all of them with relative ease.(I cut up to 8 inches in diameter) I did purchase 2 fifty foot extensions for a total of about $90 but I can now go 100 feet away from the house, which I did. If you follow their directions(proper oil, gauge for extensions) this saw works very very well. Wouldnt use it for a humongous tree trunk but for most of my needs it will be fine.
...

If I had known that Craftsman could pack that much power into an electric chain saw I never would have owned a gas one. This electric chainsaw cuts everything from small branches up to 10 inch diameter oak logs almost as fast as my gas chainsaw ever did - and with much less noise and vibration. Not having to pull a starter cord is wonderful!! Just flip the safety off and pull the trigger. The only drawback (and it is more a safety concern than a drawback) is making sure the electric cord is completely out of the way for every cut. If you have to cut wood more than 100 feet from your house, an electric chainsaw won't work for you.
...

The first Craftsman Electric 18" Chainsaw had a short but happy life. THe automatic oiler never functioned. After cutting down a good size tree, I realized that it still hadn't used any oil. I brought it bacak to the store where it was promptly replaced. The second chainsaw pumps oil like there's no tomorrow! Cuts great. Fast and quite powerful. I purchased electric over gas for several reasons. First, gas saws used infrequently seem to have more starting issues due to fuel varnish buildup. Second, all of my cutting is on my small 1/3 acre property and always near a power source. Lastly, I found the electric to be much lighter than the gas equivalent, a real issue for me as I am not as young as I used to be! After several hours of work, I can still lift and manipulate the saw without straining. I heartily recommend the purchase of the Sears PurchaseProtect which covers the replacement of the saw for up to 3 years for $14 total as my solution for the plastic gears....
...

Saw works great, a little bit of a drawback that you need a cord but expected that. Only complaint is that the chain was installed backwards on the saw. Called customer support and hey treated me like I was dumb. I basically told the guy why is it my responsibility to correct the chain when it came that way. I was basically just unhappy that the chain was backwards from the get got. I mean what else could be backwards or assembled incorrectly. Anyways reversed the chain and it’s worked great Actually really easy to reverse chain and to adjust the tension on the chain. Overall great product, they just need to assemble it correctly.
...

I was thinking of spending $300 for a gas powered Stihl saw. I only had about 3 to 4 medium trees to cut and a few lower branches. I read all the positive reviews on this chainsaw and figured for about a $100 why not give it a try. This saw is powerful. I've used a few gas saws, Stihl, Echo, Poulan, but never an electric. This is one of the best $100 I have used on a power equipment. Of course it isn't as powerful as a 40-50cc gas but I have cut down a couple of trees with 18-20" trunk sizes! It was a little slower than a gas powered unit but with a sharp blade it cuts very good. I would equate this saw being comparable to at least a 30-38cc gas saw. It uses chain oil rather quickly but then you save on gas. Hopefully the durability will be good but I am very pleased with the performance.
...

When Hurricane Ike came thru it blew down a 100 year old Black Oak tree in Moms yard. Instead of renting a chainsaw I went to Sears and bought this electric saw because the reviews were so good that I thought it might work out. I bought extra chains and another bar and went to work. My Brother In-Law brought His "Farm Boss" and He cut up the main trunk and I cut up the rest. I was really surprised at how well this little saw cut! I had many limbs that were over 20 inches thick and it went thru them like "Butter" I still haven't used the extra chains or bar after all this time.
This is without question the best Hundred Bucks I ever spent on a tool. I know that's a Strong statement but if You get the chance to use one You will be as surprised as I have been. It seems that things are built with "wearing out" in mind these days and things just don't last like in the Good Old Days but this little saw is the exception. Thanks Craftsman!...

I purchased this electric chain saw on 07/26/2011 with the hopes of just cutting up some downed branches. Took the unit home, read all of the instructions and followed them to the letter. I then plugged into a unused 20 amp house circuit with a 50 foot cord just as specified in the directions. I went to start using the saw and nothing, just a click of the trigger. I checked to see if I was getting power through the cord by hooking up a leaf blower and the leaf blower worked. The electric chain saw was packed back up and taken back to the Sears across town. I decided to purchase a gas powered saw instead, and do not regret the decision.
...

This saw is very easy to get prepared for operation, as it requires very little to be ready for cutting. After adding the chain lubricating oil, and an appropriate extension cord, the saw was ready for use. Even with the attached cord, it is still easy to maneuver while cutting. I purchased this model because it had the most rated h/p at the time of purchase. As a result, this saw seemed to cut through my trees with no problems at all. Also, the chain adjustment incorporated into this saw is extremely easy to operate, and appears to be a very nice feature.

Overall, this appears to be a very nice saw with seemingly ample power for its intended use. It is much quieter than a gas saw. I really did not find any Cons for this saw in its first outing. I would say the only possible down side is the requirement of an extension cord for operation, which does limit the portability of this saw. However, being this is an electric (as opposed to gas) operated saw, it is much quieter to operate...
...

I was a bit aprehensive about buying this saw after reading the reviews but after using it to cut down a couple 20 year old chinaberry trees and the trunk of a 25 year old hackberry tree I was more than impressed.
I did purchase a 100' 13 amp cord from Lowes for $40 and also plugged it into a 20 amp outlet.
I had to cut the 24" trunk into 2' sections so I could roll them. This saw cut through them with no problem.
I am a 57 year old 110 lb. woman and had no problem handling this saw!...
