Assembly was easy enough. Added a couple of large blocks as weight and it did a great job on the lawn.
Because it's not something that you use many times a year, it'd be nice if there was an easier way to collapse/store this. The bar to engage the tines is easily removed and that works well enough for long term storage. It's not ideal, but it makes it so you can stand the unit on end with the tines pointing toward the wall to avoid any barefoot travelers in your garage.
For the price paid and the way it works, I have no complaints.
easy to assemble, works perfect, does not need any weight.....we tried it with 2 concrete blocks, then 1, then none. it works ! you can pick how much weight. since it worked without weight we went with that so that it may last longer. has a couple of very sharp edges, we simply cleaned them up...no biggie...
I am very pleased with my Craftsman 40" Rear Mount Dethatcher. My yard is huge.... 3/4 of an acre, all grass. I used to employ the help of my wife to hand rake .Took 5 days. We had no idea what a poor job we were doing. Pardon the pun but we were barely scratching the surface all these years! My wife is needless to say even more thrilled than I am! Had I known how good of a job it would do, I would have purchased it years ago! The assembly was not difficult.
My lawn looks wonderful after the process and some re-seeding.and ferilizing. It took less than 2 hours. More time to tackle my "Honey-do"...
read full review »This is a good value especially if you can catch it on sale. It does the job and should last though many seasons of lawn maintenance. It has a couple of sharp corners that need to be broken in order to avoid potential cuts and scrapes. A hand file and some touch up paint brought about a quick remedy. Some thought also has to go into the assembly to get it right. Clearer instructions would have helped.
It took a lot of trail and error to get the weight right so that the Dethatcher doesnt dig in to the ground. Once you get that pinpointed its really easy to use. It does sometimes still drag into the ground especially when the grade of the lawn changes drastically. For the price though it is worth it. I spent more to get someone to do this for me one year so it is well worth the money.
The dethatcher worked better than I expected. It was able to pull up a lot of thatch and weeds and was easy to maneuver. I was a little concerned about the tines bending or breaking, but they have held up great so far. The product was a little tricky to assemble, more detailed or larger diagrams would have helped.
The dethatcher is a great value at the sale price - I assembled the unit in about 2 hours (follow the instructions carefully!) and used it immediately. I added about 30 pounds weight to each side by bungee cording some half filled concrete bags onto the tray. The dethatcher works better than I expected and is great for 'scratching' the lawn prior to seeding to allow the grass seed to get down to the dirt. It also gets up dead plant material and brings it to the surface where mowing/bagging picks it up nicely.
The assembly directions could be a little more clear, but with a little thought..you can figure out how to assemble the product. Extra bolts and nuts were included and it seems to work just fine.
I have used this 40" detacher only once, but for a large sized area. It did an effective job and held up very well. Other than the fact that this implement is now dirty, it still looks new. I suffered no broken or worn parts. I found it easy to assemble. Took about 30 minutes after I gathered the handful of tools needed. The package had more than the number of hardware items needed for assembly (spares?). I weighted the frame down with a pair of unsplit 18" long fireplace logs, and secured them with a handful of bungee cords. Though it is described as a detacher, I found it's use to be much like...
read full review »I was hesitant to purchase, even after reading the reviews. I decided to give it try and was very impressed with the product. The product went together in about 30 minutes. I went to my local lumber yard and purchased 2 4x8x16 cement blocks for additional weight, which is a must otherwise the rake will bounce all over the place. I was able to pull up a large amount of thatch from my yard by dragging in one direction and then dragging again across my first pattern.
My next investment will probably have to be a lawn sweep, because picking it up by hand wasn't much fun!
Once again Craftsman...
read full review »I bought this dethatcher to help get our our yard ready before winter. I was initially surprised with how light this actually is because the box it comes in is quite big.
It took me a little over an hour to put this together. The instructions were a little hard to follow because the diagrams with the different bolts and screws were on a page that you had to flip back and forth between. In each step, the diagrams of the dethatcher and where the bolts are actually installed are quite small to see. Therefore I wasn't really sure what bolts go where without double-checking a few times because...
