This thing is GREAT!

So I've had it a few months now, and used it plenty. It was delivered to the house, dropped off in the driveway, and they had me start it and drive it around before they left. They even took a minute to go over a few things.

Now, keep in mind I moved up from an old RER Snapper (25" deck).

This thing...

YT-4000 six speed. 24hp 42". I would love to know if anyone who thinks this is a great machine is using the mulching kit. I am on my second tractor, after a month of trying to get a replacement without having to pay for it in full. Finally, I got it. The first cut was much better than the old machine....

A Great Buy!

I purchased this tractor two weeks ago during the "friends and family" sale at my local Sears. After the sale price plus 10% "ff" discount and 5% off for signing up for a new sears card it was $1,250 before sales tax. Everything I read said I needed the manual transmission for the grade of hills in my yard and I have to say they were right. This thing is powering up 40% grades in 4th gear and doesn't show any sign of slipping (note that the manual says not to go over 15% grade). I don't have the biggest yard at .5 acres, but the level of hills made push mowing a 3-4 hour chore every week. Now...

I live in a rural area and I bought this tractor mower on line. It was delivered to a Sears store near me & ready to operate. I had to pick the mower up as Sears charged $75.00 to deliver. The mower had no gas so certainly no one at the store tried to operate it. I had a friend pick it up, we filled it with gas and the mower started perfectly.

I skimmed through the operator manual and found it very complete and easy to read. I have used the mower one time and it definitely meets my needs. I have a half acre Bermuda lawn that needs a low cut. I was able to achieve an excellent cut on a "2"...

This is my first riding mower and I didn't think they could have as much power as this one does.  I bought this one for two reasons, first to cut grass in the summer and secondly to plow snow in the winter.  The extra money I paid for the cab and snow blade will pay for themselves the first winter.  The cab and snow blade were very easy to put together.  Also very easy to put on and take off.  This was the BEST investment I have purchased and I'm 65 years old so I've spent a lot of money on things like this.  The only bad thing is that it gets dirty.

I have a rather large yard with lots of pine trees that are constantly dropping needles on the lawn.  I was getting real tired of raking and mowing with a power mower.  I just moved to central Oregon and expect to have snow this winter.

Purchased the YT 4000 with a 42" mowing deck on it.  I also purchased the snow blower attachment.  It was a bit of a challenge putting the snow blower together.  But now I am ready for winter.  So far I really like the tractor.  We will see about the snow blower.  Picks up those pine needles like nobody's business and dumps them into my double bagger.

We love our B&G mower.  We had a very old Crafstman that lasted for almost 20 yrs.  But it was time to retire it.  We replaced it with this lawn jewel.  What used to take over an hour to mow, we know "blow" through the lawn in less than 45 minutes.  Highly recommend this riding mower to anyone with an acre or more to take care of.

This is my first mower I looked around online and at the stores. I asked friends and just about everyone said hands down Craftsman. Many said it's been 10+ years and they too are looking at buying a new mower and it will be a Craftsman. So I too bought mine at sears.

The model I was looking to get was the 3000 series but they didn't have the 6 speed version there in stock. The 4000 was in stock with the 6 speed and that was the one I wanted anyway. It cost $200 more and has more power so it sold me.

When I got it home I added fuel and it fired right up no problems. My yard is hilly and uneven...

I bought this last spring to replace a John Deer hydrostatic model.  It cuts well.  I bought the bagger attachment.  It actually works MUCH better than my old ********** bagger.  My one problem is, the engine takes what seems like forever to start when cold.  I know newer models have a safety system to shut off gas to the carb, but every cold start is like the first start when there is no gas in the lines.  I don't expect the starter to last long.

Impressions of my First Riding Mower

So far, I'm very happy with this tractor (my first)....read on if you want to hear the long version. I have always shopped at Sears for tools and outdoor power equipment, so when I finally got tired of my 4+ hour grass cutting extravaganza every week, I naturally decided to look there for a riding mower. I did my research and read the literature provided by Sears and looked at the website numerous times, in addition to "casually" looking at the store a few times. When I got serious about buying, I went in an talked to a salesperson, who was able to answer many of my questions. I had also looked... read full review »

some bugs

Beware of what I think is a big bug. When you order the grass bagger system with your tractor, the bagger system attaches thru the use of the tow hole. This means you either have to take the bagger system completely off (a big job) or you have to drill a hole in the tow plate and attach a steel bar with another 5/8" hole in it so you can attach your equipment without having to take the bagger off. I would also like to see a tool box on a 24 hp tractor. Not a big thing Sears, it might cost you another $10. Forget cutting your grass when it is wet. Just do something else, play scrabble. The bagger... read full review »

This a very strong and tough built riding lawnmower ! You Have to Take off The Additional 3 Bagger Grass Catcher ,which I Added ! To cut very tall Grass Lawns. Its Better to mow the lawn when the Grass is Dry ,and then it bags the lawn like a champ ! I put this up against a ********** anyday ! The ********** 2 to 3 bag grass catchers are made out off very poor quailty, and wear out in less than a year .The ********** plastic alligator jaw grass catcher has to be emptied constantly, with the sears you can mow almost a full lawn. The only thing I dont like about this Riding Lawnmower,is that it...

Quality Product

Ok folks, here we go I purchased this mower to possibly replace my 6 year old Craftsman riding mower. I ened up getting this for $1277.00 after all discounts. It's hard to replace old habits (my old machine), but..... the 4 gauge wheels make such a difference. ZERO scalping of the lawn. It starts easy, and runs quiet. Factory forgot to grease the front axle, making it difficult to steer at first. Took care of that myself. I was debating about returning this machine, but it has certainly grown on me. It is more machine than I need for my lawn (just over 1/2 acre), but it really is worth it. Quality... read full review »
