This is the first time I have owned or used a lawn sweeper. I have numerous gumball trees in my yard (beautiful but extremely messy due to the gumballs) and use my Craftsman lawn tractor with bagger to mow up the leaves. However, a lawn tractor is not able to pick up the heavy gumballs and so I have always had to do it the hard way...raking, raking, and more raking. Not unusual to rake up 20 to 30 extra-large lawn bags of gumballs each season. Decided to give the sweeper a try and did lots of research before deciding on this one. Wow.....it really did a great job. Spent less than a couple hours doing a job that used to take 10 or 12 hours and left me sore for a week. Only problem that I had was the wheels locked up a couple of times (as mentioned in some other posts) but I am not sure if that was due to my inexperience with setting the height and/or driving too slow while trying to learn how it operated. Problem went away when I adjusted the height and learned which speed was most efficient...
...

Would buy it again. Instructions aren't to hard to follow, but they could be a little more definitive in certain areas. I have a yard full of various assortments of trees/leaves and the lawn sweeper picked up almost all of them without me even having to use a rake. In some areas where the leaves are really deep and wet, the tires would lock-up and slide, but that should be expected to happen. I have always used a yard-vac in the past, but the leaves don't burn very well after they are mulched up, which is why the lawn sweeper is so much better. Plus, the lawn-vac was annoying because you had to find a place to dump all of the mulched leaves and you also had to break your back doing it. Overall, the lawn sweeper isn't flawless, but this was the easiest year of picking up leaves out of the past 8 that I have been doing it.
...

I bought this sweeper last year and about the third use one of the tires fell off and now I have to use a rubber mallet to put it back on. The bag is very low quality. The corners wear quickly and tear. I have not been able to use the sweeper this year, because one of the wheels keeps locking up. Not up to the standards that I had come to expect from Craftsman products. If you are consider one of these look the other way and run. I would have given it 0 stars if it had been an option.
...

The lawn sweeper does a great job of picking up the leaves. We have very mature trees that dump many leaves on the yard. This product will save you much time and do a great job.

I have one suggestion for an improvement to Sears and that is to fix the height adjustment. You either need to shorten the bolt or add washers. I replaced the plastic twisted tightener with a 5/16-18 nut and it works fine....but I have to use a wrench adjust. Anyway, I had to do something because it slipped on me every time I used it.

Also the rope used to dump the leaves works well however you need to be careful that it doesn't drop into the sweeping brushes and get tangled. Find a place to hook it on the mower seat and you will be fine.

One MAJOR bonus for those that have black walnut trees or acorns, this sweeper will pick them up!!!! I was very happy to see this.

This is a very good product. With a little refinement(height adjustment and rope fix) it wil be a great product!

We have 2 1/2 acres with over a hundred TALL trees. Mostly pine along with hickory, madrone, fruit trees plus unknown. With this red craftsman sweeper it make it fun cleaning up the place. Watch out when picking up pine needles due to their heave weight which make it harder to dump hopper. The other leaf fill it up. Well worth the money.

We have had the Craftsman Lawn Sweeper for several seasons now and it does a great job of picking up grass clippings, leaves and pine needles. You have to have the right angle on the hook up to your mower or it doesn't pull and sweep correctly and will throw the leaves over the bagger. You need to use it before the lawn gets totally covered up as it needs the grass to have the texture for friction to turn the wheels and sweeper bar. It tends to slide when the grass is covered up deeply. Overall, a much better way of handling leaves rather than hand raking.
...

Had this for two years now. Works good not perfect but it is nice to want to go and do the leaves for a change .I Like the big bag and the overall build qualith is good . Adjusting it is a bit of a pain but with a bit of trial and error it works great. My tractor is small and it has no problems pulling it . Storing it is a pain but but it is nice not to have another motor to prep for the winter. Complaints are fiew but here goes 1 the instructions suck I had it assembled wrong fot the first season .Fixed it when i saw one in the store and works great . Second assembeling the bag was a nightmare but i did it on a cold day if your gonna buy this get it in the summer wen it is warm and leave the bag in the sun on a hot day or bring it in the house the night before you assemble it . Hope this helps...

We are on about an acre, but have 8 large cottonwoods that have shed an incredible amount of twigs this year. (thousands of them). I raked about two weeks ago since my 24 HP Craftsman tractor (with Gator blades) was close to useless with the sheer amount of leaves (fills the bins after about 1 minute), but wouldn't suck the twigs off the ground. Spent about 6 hours raking and filling 20 lawn bags.

Last weekend I ONLY used my bagger since I wanted the leaves at least semi-mulched before bagging, this took me antother 6 hours, at least 40 stops to empty the bins into paper bags (messy, dusty, PITA!), and filled another 25 paper bags.

After many hours of research (vacs vs. sweepers) I decided to buy a sweeper (paid $239 after all discounts).

Couldn't wait to give it a try. So after a few test runs/adjustments I went to work. WOW!!! I left my bagger attachment on, but with no bins, so that way everything was getting semi-mulched, thrown to the ground (because of no bins) so...
...

So bought this a few weeks ago and used a couple of times now on my yard. Overall I would say it was worth the money but do not expect miracles. It did a great job picking up a lot of my grass shavings and leaves, but still left a few behind. I am not a stickler for it being perfect and at the end of the day I just wanted something that handled the majority of the chore and this tool did just fine. Make sure you have some room to store it though because it is rather large....

I put this together in about 1.5 hours but I have to say the directions were not that great. I assemble stuff regularly and this one was definately more tricky than it needed to be. I especially disliked putting the bag on and that the instructions kept telling me to reference a stamp for the left and right side of the frame that simply was not there. Probably could have been done in 45 minutes if not for those two issues. At the end of the day not a huge issue, just more annoying than anything else.........

Bought this from a Sears Outlet store in a damaged box (contents completely undamaged) and got a very favourable price, thank you Sears. Used it only once so far. It does make collecting the grass clippings much less of a chore, but it did cause the tractor to lose traction and slip on even slight inclines and you must be aware of difficulties when needing to reverse and not to make too sharp turns. Assembly was fairly easy, although the instructions for insertion of the suppport poles for the fabric grass-catcher were not very clear and I had to disassemble it and re-assemble it when it became clear as to how it should end up. Emptying the grass-catcher is not as simple a task as was explained and I had to dismount the tractor to use both hands to pivot the unit and dump the clippings on the ground. Still had to transfer the clippings to a re-cycling receptacle with a shovel...not as easy with damp grass...oh well. Would I buy this item again, knowing what I do now? Absolutely...
...

Just bought a house with big yard and pine needles. I researched lawn sweepers and decided to to purchase this one with the intent of being able to pick up the pine cones and straw and save all that raking. The instructional videos were a great help and I encourage anyone to review the segments before completing those steps. It especially helped me with the hopper assembly. The sweeper was together in an hour and half or so minus a couple breaks. The fit was pretty good and didn't need any help with assembly. I was completely impressed once I got it behind the tractor, I picked up two loads of pine needles and dead grass in just 15-20 minutes or so of going over part of the yard. This will save a bunch of time and get the yard clear before I mow. A great purchase.
...
