Alright need some help from the experts on here since the telephone system to sears didnt help. My situation I bought a used GS6500 Garden Tractor model #917-27692 using parts direct have determined that the snow thrower model compatible with it is 24838 42 in snow thrower. Well came across a local offering a used one that they bought with their 20HP LS series tractor. It was mounted when purchased.. the model # is 486-248392 42 in snow thrower. Looking at the thrower it mounts similar to my scoop with the mounting pin assembly etc. Also looking at the manual for the model and parts listing it appears very much like the 24838 just an older version since many of the parts for it are authorized factory substitutions that are on the newer 24838 model.  Ok here is where I am asking for help from the guys who know this stuff.. it also came with chains and wheel weights that are the identical models I need for my tractor.. will this work or am I wasting my money? thanks in advance.

I looked into the snow blower before I decided to purchase the plow. If I recall correctly the blower is made by MTD and will fit a number of tractor models, but only  Craftsman  Husvarna  brand tractors. I was told the brckets will accomidate all of those brand models that have less than like 20" rear tires (not sure on the size). I doubt that these manufacturers have changed their frame layouts much over the years (you may have to drill a hole or two at most). So, If the guy gives you the brackets and the bolts and your tractor has the right sze rear tires, I'd be fairly confident you can get the blower to work with your tractor.

The chains and wheel weights can't possibly fit both tractors. The first problem you will find is the Garden Tractor takes different belts than the lawn tractor and the electronic clutch requires a different assembly configuration. The 24838 has all the parts for the different current models including yours. My best guess is that no, you can't make the 24839 fit the 27692 without additional parts and even then it's a maybe. Lastly, the scoop has different brackets, trust me.

I totally agree with Madgolfer that the brackets for the front attachments are different (how convenient). Madgolfer is the resident expert on tractors, but I question that his position that the snowblower will not work (if your rear tires are less than 22").

Madgolfer, are you saying the literature (and the Sears salespeople statements) given is in error, that the blower is not universal to all Craftsman and Husvarna tractors that have a rear tire less than 22"?

Nm, after doing a little checking, it appears all garden tractors have larger than 22" rear tires. Per manufacturerer of the blower--no way, no how, no can do. Sorry for questioning you Mad
