i bought this lawn mower thinking I would do my part for the eco system. first the chargetime is rediculous. second it is heavy to mow with (great workout pushing it around the hills that you might have.) if your lawn is bigger then 10 sq ft and has grass that is 3/4 inch or more then prepare for charging it two to three times as the battery will die. I wish I would have bought goats instead of this piece of ..... you'll be happy if you mow your yard every day or every other day. if you let your friend buy one of these they won't be a friend any more. I see some have given this four stars must work for sears....

This mower was on clearance so I was able to get it at $199.99. I couldn't beat the price and I respect the Craftsman name. The problem with my gas mower was the maintenance, the awful gas fumes that would last for days after running it. The cost of gasoline and upkeep and just the fact of having such a filthy machine polluting the air were other reasons I decided to switch to this mower. It's true the mower is heavy given the lead acid battery power source. It makes half the noise of the gas mower. No pulling of a start cord, a simple key and button push and your on your way. The mower only uses a quarter charge to cut both my front and rear lawns and has plenty of guts to power through high grass and dense weeds. The polymer cutting deck will never rust which is awesome! I definitely recommend this mower to anyone!
...

The simplicity of using the Craftsman 48V is great--push button start and off you go! I really appreciate the quieter volume, too. It's a bit heavier than a gas push mower but not too bad (I have a fairly flat lawn) and it's got enough power to run in mulch mode effectively. My problem is that the battery lasted just long enough to finish my yard when the unit was new (about 45-60 minutes), but this has progressively shortened so that in beginning the unit's fourth season the battery lasts about a dozen minutes. Fortunately, it's so easy to use I spent last season mowing in 15-20 minute stints on a regular basis--actually not a bad way to mow on my schedule--but pretty annoying really. I'm getting the battery replaced shortly and hoping to have problem-free mowing for a couple more seasons.
...

I have a small lawn with about 5,000 square feet of grass. I purchased this mower in the spring of 2009 as a low-maintenance, environmentally-friendly alternative to a gas mower. The battery life was never the greatest, but the first year I could mow the entire yard if the grass was short and I really hurried. I stored the mower in my heated garage over the winter and followed the instructions in the manual.

The following spring the mower would only hold a charge sufficient to cut about half of my small lawn. I returned it to the store for repair under warranty. After the third time, they replaced the batteries and the mower performed like new for the remainder of the 2010 season. Again, I stored it in my heated garage over the winter and followed the charging instructions in the manual.

This spring the mower will only hold a charge sufficient to cut about 1/3 of my small lawn, approximately 15-20 minutes. When I called the store, I was told it was no longer under warrenty and I would need...
...

Bought this mower used because the seller's yard was too big. Mine's smaller. The battery didn't seem to last too long, so I recharged it overnight. The charge indicator on the mower only showed one bar. More charging didn't make a difference. When I tested the Charger with an ohm meter the reading was 7.5 volts and the charger said output should be 57.6 volts. So, it seems to be the problem, but if it isn't and I have to buy the batter... maybe it would be a money pit...
...

Bought this last year. I was tired of gas mowers that wouldn't start because of the gas we now have to live with. Went with the 48 volt so power wouldn't be a be a problem. Mower worked great for about 2 months now you have to reset circuit breaker about every minute or two. I have very thin grass due to the sandy soil. There is no reason that this unit should overheat and shut down in less than 30 feet of mowing. Works great when it works but you spend more time reseting the circuit breaker than you do mowing! Pass this by!
...

Bought this on sale online and picked up in store hassle free! VERY VERY HEAVY!!! So keep that in mind! The box is a little bigger than most other mowers also, but it comes with a grass catcher, so that was very nice! Dragged it in the house, plugged it in. Read the manual so I didn't mess anything up. Charged it for two days, wheeled it outside, and pushed the button. It was GREAT! Quick start, fairly decent power, and no mess because of the catcher. I have two small pieces of lawn, so after I was done with one I shut off the mower and wheeled it to the other patch. Turned it back on and . . . nothing. The manual said that I'd need to press the breaker button and restart - but nothing worked. Not even another day and a half on the charger. So, I had to make a mess in my car, and of my back, getting the VERY VERY heavy mower in the backseat and taking it to the service center where they will have it for two weeks for repair . . .

Also, I am concerned about where to store it, because...
...

Greatest invention made. Do not have to mess with fuel cans. I have owned it for 2 years and no problems. You have to be dedicated to the battery charging. Whoever has problems with battery charging probably has some dead power wheel vechicles laying around the yard. I have a large yard and the battery last 2 mowings. I charge it overnight and it is ready for the next mowing. I have missed 1 week of mowing and the lawn mower has no problems cutting thick long grass. It starts everytime no problems. I have owned many lawnmowers before this one and would not trade it for a gas mower. Start and stop is an ease. The only ones complaining are lawn mower repair men.
...

I am very familiar with rechargeable mowers -having owned a Black and Decker rechargeable lawn mower for about 10 years. However, the adjustment mechanism went out on my old mower, so I decided to try the Craftsman -I have grown up with the Craftsman name meaning quality and dependability.

This mower is POWERFUL and cuts beautifully! The 19" Deck is all metal, a huge, powerful, 48volt battery (12volts larger than B&D) and it has larger wheels than the B&D. The rear grass catcher is smaller than the B&D, but it was VERY easy to empty.

HOWEVER... the deal breaker:

It has a MAJOR design flaw: cheap plastic couplers/reinforcements on each side of the upper handle that connects to the lower struts. If you have a perfectly flat yard with thin Bermuda grass and no indentations or bumps, this mower is fine. Unfortunately, I have really thick St. Augustine grass and the yard is not perfectly smooth and level. I had to keep squeezing the couplers back together -otherwise the handle...
...

This is my second season with this mower. Last fall, I had to return the unit for repair because cutting through some wet tall grass caused the fuse inside to blow. Luckily the Sears tech at the local store knew where it was, and spent 30 minutes trying to get the cover off to replace it.

Step forward to the 8th mow of this year (its hot here, grass doesnt grow well), and I pulled the unit out of the garage, hit the start button, and the light display flickered, and then POW, and a puff of smoke. Popped the cover off, and the battery terminals on one of the batteries had corroded and melted off, the battery next to it, while still connected, was badly corroded. I removed the jumper from battery 3 to 4, and connected the power out to battery three, fired it up, and got the red light low voltage, but was able to cut my grass. Now I need to once again return the mower to sears to have it shipped off for repair. This mower is kept in a garage with a car and a motorcycle,...
...

I've used this mower for about a month and am completely happy with it so far. The salesperson at my Sears store in Ann Arbor, Michigan was very knwledgeable and helpful. My lot is roughly 60 x 120 feet (less about 1600 square ft. for the house, driveway, etc.) I have been able to do as many as 2 cuttings on a single charge, provided the grass is not too long and/or wet.

Construction quality appears to be very solid and durable. The mower is heavier than a gas or corded-electric version, and is a little harder to maneuver on uneven surfaces. Avoid cutting on a grade steeper than 15 degrees. I'm hoping to see better battery life than others have reported. Be sure to have a safe, secure location for recharging this machine.

After failing to find a suitable Mower to convert to electric on my own, I went to Sears to purchase the Neuton 6.2 - but they don't stock them in my store. Looking at the other offerings, I was about to leave, when I saw the store brand 19" 48Volt Premium Cordless Mower. It looked the part - and when I grabbed it and threw it around a bit in the store, the difference between this mower and the WORX and Black and Decker which both cost more was like night and day. The Craftsman was bulletproof in construction whereas the others are made out of plastic, with plastic wheels, and plastic handles that flex so much I wanted to puke. I am a geek - so I removed the prettymaker and looked at the motor (a bit smaller than the Neuton,) controller, and batteries. All were as I would have layed them out. My only recommendation would be to up the ante to 8x 6V 15AH batteries (weight gain would be 15 lbs or so) - or to redesign the battery tray to be removeable - and hinge the prettymaker...
...

I cannot speak to the battery life as I only had this mower for one use before returning it. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it and it cut very well. My issue with it is that it is hard to turn and very heavy. Without a hose cleaning nozzle, it must be turned over to clean after every use. The unit is very heavy and low handlebars do not make that easy for tall people to do. The handlebar height is not adjustable, I found that difficult being tall. There is also a 15 degree tilt warning that was not part of the sales literature - watch out for that if you have a hilly property. The wheels are short which makes it difficult to get over curbs, sidewalks and thresholds. I found it bottom out just to move to the front yard across the walk. With such a short stance and low bars, it was a lot of lifting to manage. A lot of Sears battery products have given me trouble in the past, both trickle chargers and utility compressors/power packs. I got the extended warranty...
...

Works well on even long grass. Easy to set up working striaght out of the box (after 14 hours of charging). Heavy to turn and can be difficult on steep hills even for short periods. But the ease of starting and not needing to keeping getting gas, changing oil, filters spark plugs etc makes it worthwile. I have concerns about the long term battery life, so far so good, i will try and update this review at the end of the season
...
