Should have been a recall on this carbeurator design. Needs a diaphragm apparently...$2 item which you have to wait weeks to receive. Bought new in August used twice for a total of 8 minutes. Prime the carbeurator, starts, stalls. Have to keep pushing the primer to keep it running. No gas is being pumped into the carb. Hundreds have the same problem.

Junk. Stay clear.
...

I bought this edger in June '08. Nothing but issues from the get go. First time used, the belt shredded the first 3 minutes of use. Wasn't doing any edging out of the ordinary ... just along the edge of a sidewalk; no sharp areas no stones. Took it in, they replaced the belt and I went back home. Started it back up, worked like a charm. Couldn't get it started for the rest of the season. Even though it says only prime it 3x - I would prime it 6x and try to start. I'd walk away for an hour - prime it 8x ... still nothing. Never flooded - just never started. Was too busy to take it into the shop. The start of this year when I brought it out in June '09 - it wouldn't start. Had fresh fuel and oil - the spark plug was fine - and the oil filter was clean. Couldn't get it started - took it into the shop. One week later - I picked it up. They didn't have a real reason of what the issue was - they said they drained all liquids and checked all components and it was...
...

Picked this up on clearance even after reading the reviews. No smoke, runs quiet and does the job. Starts easy and has enough power for clean lines.
The previous edger I had used 4 wheels and that's the only thing that took some getting used to. 3 wheels is a little touchy. I'm glad I picked one up!...

I have had this edger for about 2 years and have not had any problems. I can even do edging on my curb. One draw back is the edger does not allow you to set an angle, but I knew that when I bought it and it hasn't been an issue. It starts after 3 or 4 pulls and the 4 cycle saves me from another gas can of oil mix....

I have used this edger three times since I bought it a month ago. It was easy to assemble and edged very well. Last week it started smoking. Yesterday It started spitting oil out of the muffler and all over my garage floor. I only have a 60 foot driveway to edge, so I don't think it is from over work. My last edger lasted for 15 years with little or no maintenance....

I wish to express my disappointment in this Sears Craftsman Edger. I purchased this walk behind edger in March of 2007 and have been using it regularly for the past two years. I do what I would consider light residential edging on a regular
basis--every week during the summer; much less during the colder months--and have been satisfied with the performance of the edger up to now. I'd say I have used the edger a total of 60-80 times since I bought it. Imagine my surprise last week when a metal flange on the "quill assembly" completely sheared off while I was using the edger, rendering the machine inoperable. Much to my chagrin, the "quill assembly" costs $86 (plus tax and shipping) to replace. That is quite a costly repair to a machine that I still consider to be new and in good working order. I have used Sears products for years and have a number of Craftsmen items in my storage room. I am quite disappointed with the early breakdown of this item but I don't plan on ordering a part that......

This is one great edger! Assembly was a breeze - attach one metal rod with two cotter pins - controls edging blade height. Fill oil - of course you don't use the entire container supplied with the B&S engine or you might blow a gasket, resulting in a smoker killing bugs while you edge. The engine runs like a Briggs - easy start - 2nd pull - no hesitation - not very loud like the 2-cycle screamer alternatives - powerful cut. First pass I didn't want to cut too deep so I held off on the deepest setting. Then second time I lowered it all the way and what a difference. Beautiful sidewalk, drive and curb edges. No need to angle it on the street curb either although it comes with an easy angle adjust if need be. Looks great! The comments here got me to buy the 3 year service plan which might be a good idea given my Honda experience. Honda's little engines develop carb gum-up if you don't drain the fuel line and carb after every use - and fuel issues are excluded from their long warranties - service......

I bought this thing in November 2008 and used it once. I pulled it out yesterday to use it and notice oil dripping from the muffler. I pulled the rope to start it and of course it was froze up. I had my wife bring it back today and they refunded the price of course. I think if it wouldn't have given me problems I would have loved it. I also read the responses on here and now I have changed my mind about getting another one....

Item works as advertised when it comes to edging. It leaves crisp, clean lines a good 2 inches deep without breaking a sweat.
Along with that edging however comes a huge blue smokescreen big enough to hide an invasion fleet behind it.
1st trip to the repair center resulted in a 'carb adjustment and oilc hange'. Same result. 2nd trip to repair center it was an armature replacement. Same result although it doesnt smoke as often.
It's a great product, I think I just got stuck with a B&S engine that was poorly assembled....

Edger starts nicely, has a powerful, deep, adjustable cut - engine overcomes tough Alabama clay around the curb. The only problem is the transition from flat to raised curb cutting. My driveway is flat to the lawn - cuts nicely. Cutting along the raised curb with the adjustable wheel is easy also - and cuts nicely. However, the transition where the drive drops off to the curb is almost IMPOSSIBLE trying to keep the edger balanced through ever-decreasing slope - can reverse direction, but not as clean. Locking device for the curb-hopper is not as easy to secure as one might desire. Much nicer cut and easier to handle than the hand-held trimmer/edger I had before; cuts better than the cheaper two-wheel model (different brand) I had before also....
