First Time Buyer

I bought this mower on the recommendation of a friend. Took it out of the box, added the oil that came with it, & filled the tank with gas. My daughters and I mowed an overgrown 1/4 acre with no problem at all. Pushed the primer 3x and pulled the cord once. It started with no problem. Our yard is bumpy... read full review »

Disappointed

I had this mower for about 2 months when a piece underneath broke off and hit the blade. I also thought the 5.5 hp didn't cut really well and was difficult to start at times. It would also just quit on me with a quarter tank of gas left. I would have to put more gas in before it would start back up.... read full review »

Craftsman 5.5 Torque Rating 21 in. 3-n-1 Rear... Reviews

Wanted a very basic mower, but one that would start easily.  The reviews on this one were mixed, and I started with the low wheel model and a service plan.  They delivered the high wheel model, so I paid the difference but dropped the service plan.  I have had it since March 2009, so have used it for just one season,  It has had medium, but not hard use.  Even with recommended gas, stabilizer, oil and maintenance, it has been hard to start late in the season.  The deck has started to rust underneath (used Sears recommended coating product which does help keep the grass from sticking). ...

Lugging and Smoke Everywhere

Purchased this lawnmower on 12 May and returned it dead on July 23rd. Cut 1/2 Acre lawn about weekly so after approximately 8 uses, it died. I have never had an engine go bad on a lawnmower in 40 years of cutting lawns. This was a pretty little mower but it would fill up the bag in 1 lap around the yard and start lugging and banging on the first usage. Puffs of smoke billowed out after stopping and starting it for bag change. My grass is plush but this thing had no durability. Got the next higher model from Sears and while it sounds stronger, only time will tell. I have been cutting this lawn with... read full review »

Excellent Buy

I have had this lawnmower for a month or so now and have mowed 3 times with it. I have used the bag, mulch, and side discharge features of this mower and they all perform well. I never had trouble starting the mower and it performs well. The only thing I don't necessary like is the amount of vibration it produces and the lack of the ability to adjust the handle up higher. I haven't figured that out yet.

Excellent mower

I have had mine for 2 years now and it still works like it is brand new. It is an outstanding mower.

Disappointing Day

We purchased this mower from our local sears store after being a long time craftsman lawnmower family. It started up fine, but the engine surged constantly. There was definitely something wrong with the engine. While we cleaned it up real good before returning it, we noticed how cheaply made every component was. Sure, we were going for inexpensive, but this is ridiculous. The wheels look like they could snap at any minute. The undercarriage has no paint or visible rust proofing. The metal is so thin that any rust would probably make it disintegrate within a year or two. It was also difficult to... read full review »

rear guard continues to fall off of mower. I have used it 3 times and have to replace the guard twice. Cuts nice, but cheap made.

Great Mower

We are very happy with the mower. For the low price, it starts and cuts well. Mowing my 1/4 acre is a workout for an old fat lady like me, but I am able to do it by myself with this mower. Operates well, easy to use, easy to clean.

good value

i bought this lawn mower after reading the reviews condemning this mower. i used it one afternoon mowing two lawns. it worked great. it is light to push around with the big wheel. it started up and ran perfectly. it was odd not to have a choke, but i have used a mower w/o one before and had no problems. i am, however, considering returning it. i just want a mower with a little bit more power. other than that it is absolutely great. i really like craftsman tools, and i expect my craftsman mower to be just as good.

Don't buy

We have used this mower twice--I'm returning it to the store today. The first time it was used, the spark plug wire kept vibrating off the spark plug and killing the engine. I had to crimp the wire onto the plug. The supposed "dust blocker" bag does not block dust. In fact it seems to cover you in dust should you hit a dry spot. The mower is extremely hard to crank--it is not an easy pull. The second time we used it, it simply quit running and died with a full tank. Of course the yard was not finished either. I would not recommend this mower to anyone.

I like sears products but I was very dissapointed with this lawn mower 5.5 craftsman 3in1 did step by step directions and had really hard time to started not once but the three or four times that I was trying to cut the yard the engine sounded like it was going to die at any time

Disappointed

I love Sears and their products. This lawn mower however, was a disappointed. The first time I use the lawn mower the deflector broke. The second time I used it I had a hard time starting it up plus, the wheels looked like they were going to fall off any second. I decided to return it for the Craftsman 6.75 equiped with rapid ready. I haven't used it yet so, we'll see how it works.

returned after 2nd use...

after reviewing lawnmowers I was told craftsman were a good make, and read mostly favorable reviews for this lawnmower, it seemed like the right fit (1/4 acre with a few hills) the lawnmower didn't start right away it took about 5-6 pulls. During the first mow it was ok it konked out once after adding gas and oil I was able to finish the job. the 2nd mow I had trouble starting and when I finally did it seemed like it was in low gear and shut down when trying to cut any high grass, so we returned (with no problems) and ungraded to a the 6.25 torque that as on sale for the same price as this one,... read full review »
