The Craftsman electric trimmers only come in a dual spool design therefore I had to buy this one....The dual spool uses a lot more line than the single...It is very confusing on how to re-wind it....After buying a new spool...Factory wound....It wouldn't stay attached to the trimmer, cap keep coming off....Also I felt the trimmer was quite heavy for it's size especially if you have a big area to do....It was inexpensive so I guess you get what you pay for.
...

The Craftsman 5 amp electric line trimmer is great for small jobs. Lightweight and easy to use, best for grass and weeds but not powerful enough for small branches. Would prefer a gas trimmer with more powerbut if you have a small yard, you can't beat the price.
...

I am a 54 yr old woman & I can use this without any help. It's by far the best one I've ever owed. I feel if I can use it anyone can, and at the price U can't go wrong. I have a brother that also has one & he's had his alot longer than I have when he recommended it to me I thought it can't hurt, so I bought it & couldn't B more happier with it.
...

Overall an excellent trimmer. The adjustable angle on the head is an excellent feature for getting under bushes and fixtures while the twisting handle is nice for edging! The trimmer has great power, is light and is comfortable to use. My only complaint about the trimmer is that the motor vent sucks grass trimmings against it, which could cause it to get warm, but I just brush the grass off once and a while and haven't had any problems. The string bump works well, but could be easier to load new string.
...

This trimmer does the job well. The price was right and I have no complaints. I did seem to go through line faster than other trimmers I have owned, so not sure if that is just what I was cutting or it will always be that way, time will tell. Overall, I am happy with it. Ok, I guess I do have one complaint, but I think it is because of my height, at 6'2" I have to bend over to use this which is somewhat uncomfortable, but I still have used it for up to an hour with little issues.
...

I purchased this trimmer about 5 months ago and waited to write a review until I had given the machine regular use over the summer and changed the string for the first time.

This is an awesome trimmer for the price. It cuts well, is versatile, and is very easy to both use and change the string. I read other negative reviews and can't help but think the negative reviews are written because of operator error. If you use the trimmer correctly (which is easy to do), you will be very pleased. I bought my father-in-law one and he loves it just the same.
...

I really like everything about this line trimmer except for one issue that makes it worthless, the line feeder.

Overall, the device has enough power, feels well made, and possesses great ergonomics. I quickly burned through the first reel of line due to the fact that, even though my yard is small, I have alot of grass growing up against rough stone and cement which understandably eats up the line quickly. After rewinding new line onto the spool, (winding in the direction indicated by the arrow on the spool and using the reccommended line from Sears), the spooler failed.

Essentially, when running the trimmer, the spool never stops feeding. In two seconds, all of the line had been cut into 1" bits and strewn all about the lawn and patio. For weeks I found bits of line, some of which pierced and embedded themselves into surrounding plants. (My poor irises.)

I exchanged this trimmer for another of the same, and now, four months later, the same issue is happening. This time a piece of line actually...
...

This is the first garden power tool from sears that actually does the job. I was able to clear a half acre of wild grass on a Topanga hillside property in about 5hours. The Job may have taken only 3hrs if the trimmer line didn't bind up inside when hitting tough weeds such as thistle, but the trimmer's design allows for relatively quick access and repair .

When the original line became used up, I switched to a thicker gauge line that was designed with a square profile rather than the more common round,(Craftsman commercial grade .065") and found that it cut measurably better and lasted at least three times as long, if not more!

Well worth every penny unlike the troublesome and completely useless gas powered ones I bought from sears in previous years and far superior to the $100+ unit I purchased last year from *********!

JELittleton says "Well Built But Poorly Designed" about Craftsman 5 Amp 15&#34 Corded Electric Line Trimmer

I bought the Craftsman Model 74545 to replace my ancient but incredibly reliable (and durable) Craftsman 799760 when it finally bit the dust. The Model 74545 appeared to be well built and in my price range. And, my previous experience with Craftsman weed wackers said the Model 74545 should be up to the task of twice a year weeding of the heavy back yard grass.

Well, I was partly correct about the Model 74545. The motor provides plenty of power and the entire unit is extremely well constructed. There are, however, three insurmountable problems with the design of this unit:

The adjustable, telescoping shaft is too short in length. I'm 5' 11" and have to stoop during most operations. This makes it difficult to keep the bump head a consistent distance off the ground.

The height of the bump feed head is too great, causing line release when the bump feed head unexpectedly encounters a rock or uneven ground. This causes another problem described below.

The 0.065" line is too small and breaks easily...

...

I purchased this as a replacement after my Craftsman Corded trimmer died after 10 years. I paid $150 for that one. I didn't expect a whole lot for this price. I not only was pleasantly surprised, I was blown away!! This little beauty blew through my overgrown yard with such gusto and enthusiam it seemed like it was disappointed when I was done! It handled the regular trimming and edging without a problem. When I turned my attention to a large pile of dirt overgrown with 18 inch weeds, I thought for sure I would break it. No fear! This monster ate up everything I could put in it's path. The bump and feed process took a little getting used to, after my auto-feed model, but the lack of hesitation at anything I used it on was pleasing, to say the least. The assembly wasn't hard either. I recommend this in a heartbeat! Get one for yourself and enjoy using it instead of the mower! Be sure to wear grubbies and long pants becuase the shreds of geen material this thing throws covered me from head...
...
