Bought at Sears 9/06. Worked great, no problems until it stopped running 7/08 (after only 2 Buffalo, NY summers of use.. which is about 10 months total). Still under 2yr manuf warranty. What a joke! Self Propelled Wheels break 3X

I purchased this mower in October,2004 and use it twice. In 2005 I had to take it back to replace the rear plastice wheels as they had broken. In October, 2006 the left self propelled front wheel stopped working. I took it back in in November and they said I was past my 24 month warranty. So, I paid the approx. $100 to repair the self propel wheel. This repair broke the second time I used it in 2007 and I am now having to take it back a third time all on my dime. Sears offered a token 10% off a new mower ($26 off) while I'm out $100 for a repair that was 4 weeks out of warranty and $120 bucks to... review »

Short love affair

I was very excited with the features of this mower when purchased. I found it to be somewhat difficult to start, but the performance was good. Really liked the self-propelled feature and the larger back wheels. I was very content the two times I got to use it before it had to go in for repairs. I wasn't real pleased for the next 3 weeks and was considering buying a couple of goats while I waited for the return of my wonderful new toy. At last we were reunited and had one more nice leisurely mow. The next time when I started it, there was so much smoke billowing from it I thought it was on fire... review »

One Step Backwards for Craftsman

After nearly 20 years of owning a self-propelled Craftsman lawnmower, I decided to purchase a new one of similar features. I liked the 3-in-1 features of the model 37667. Unfortunately after purchasing the unit, I began experiencing problems with the self-propelled mechanism. The front wheels would pop out of place during my first time using the new mower. I returned the mower for a new one. Everything went well the first time I used the second model 37667, but the same problem recurred the second time I cut the grass. Only lasted 1 hour

I bought this mower and the second time using it, it stripped the left front wheel's gear (plastic). Took it to Sears and they replaced the wheel. Got it home and it wouldn't start. Back to Sears and it needed the coil replaced ( brand new mower?). Only 1 hour on this machine and 2 major breakdowns. Waited a week and it still wasn't fixed. Told the store I wanted to return it and get a different model. They charged me a 15% restocking fee. I bought an 80th Anniversary Edition- Key start - lawn mower from them and paid the difference. If we lived closer to a larger town I would have shopped for... review »

I have had this model of lawnmower for almost two years. It is a great mower. The mower has shown to be durable, smooth, and a workhorse. It starts everytime on the first try, the self-propell feature works great, and the different attachments work well also. I do recommend cleaning the mower underneath the deck. It is possible to get grass stuck in the self-propell area. If you keep this clean and clear, you will get plenty of use out of it. Also, keep your blade sharp. True, this mower has plenty of power, but sharpening the blade will make things go that much quicker and effortless. With very... review »

I love my new mower

I read the other reviews about the wheel adjustment problem but it sounded like my old Craftsman so I bought it anyway. I have had no trouble with the adjustments. Out of the box it started quickly and mowed and mulched my lawn nicely. I piled up some leaves and it mulched those too. It does everything I want it to so I am quite happy. The rear wheels do not appear to be as strong as my old mower and may fail but they are o.k. so far. I would recomend this machine to anyone. I had my other Craftsman 7 years before the engine failed. I would have cost half as much to repair it as to buy a new one,... review »

Returned this mower after 1 mowing. The front two wheels would not stay put in the height adjustment slots. Salesman was understanding about the return. He did not try to charge me a restocking fee. Besides that failure, I really didn't like the mower anyway. I'm a mulcher. Trying to cram 3 functions into 1 mower is too much. I got a lot of clumping of grass. I would suggest buying the gray model (self propelled) built strictly for mulching. We have a similar model, at a relatives, with the big rear wheels (no longer made!!!!!) that has performed perfectly the past 3 years.

This is a good machine overall with the exception of the plastic wheels. The back wheels tend to crack so be carfull going over curbs. The front wheels have plastic gears and last about a two years. and at $22.00 dollars each a bit expencive to keep going. I like Craftsman mowers but I would like them much more if they would use Bearings or at least a metal sleave when bolting on the wheels (the plastic holes get sloppy creating too much movement in the wheels) and steel gears for the inside of the drive wheels would last much longer making me and others happy much longer!

We bought our first lawn mower when we bought our first house. For 7 years we had no problems. We let our neighbor borrow it once and he pulled the start cord out of the mower. Instead of giving it back, he tried to "fix" it. He fixed it all right. We replaced that mower with this one, which is essentially, the same mower. Took it out of the box and it started on the first pull. I was even able to start it half heartedly with my off hand. DH commented that the wheels aren't quite as sturdy as our old one, but, all in all, we're pleased with this mower.

Bought this to replace a very similar 13 year old 5.5 craftsman mower that blew a head gasket. This one has cheap plastic wheels vs the metal spoked wheels. This one starts up and runs at full governed engine rpm vs the old one having two engine speeds (nice to slow it down while dumping the grass, why yes, I do bypass the engine kill lever with a zip tie. The new one holds more grass in the bag and is much easier to empty. The new one has steeper gearing in the front wheel drive so it goes like a bat outtahell. Does a nice job. Hope it lasts 13 years too.

never again with craftman

i have had this mower for about a year, the first time i took it out of the box it did not cut clean, well i put up with it. after about a year the mower would not start. i did everything be for i needed to air filter oil blades. plugs, you name it i did it the mower would not start i will never by a mower from craftman anything ever again and its not just because of the mower, the blower i bought about the same time in not any better it has been in the shop 4 times because the string would not go back in.

Front wheel adjustment

Many of the reviewers seem to be upset with the cutting height adjustment on this mower. This has been a problem on craftsman mowers for many years. There is however a very simple fix and that is connect the two adjustment brackets togeter with "shock cord". This increases the tension on the brackets to better hold them in place. There is even a hole provided on the bracket for the hook on the shock cord. This is my fourth Craftsman mower and none of them owed me anything when they were retired.

I made a mistake!!

I just finished using mine for the first time and I really really really hate it. You have to hold down both bars for it to operate. My hands are not that big and it is painful!! An ergonomic nightmare!! I tried taping the safety lever, but I still can't control the speed. I can accommodate the speed lever completely in, or out, but my hands can't manage anything in between. I should have stuck with a regular push mower or bought one with a speed control that was not a lever.
