Easy starting, speedy mowing

We purchased this mower to replace our existing Craftsman 22" self-propelled push mower. After 7 years of reliable service, the self-propelled assembly had stopped working on the old mower. Our yard is not huge but it is somewhat hilly. Although I have used the new mower only once so far, it was a very good experience. The mower started on the first pull. The self-propelled speed is a bit faster than I was used to with the old mower, but that allowed me to complete the job more quickly, while still walking at a comfortable pace. To engage the self-propelled drive, in addition to the operator presence control bar, you must also hold down the drive control bar (both bars are located across the top of the mower handle and are operated independently). At first I didn't like having to hold two bars together, but quickly found it safer and more convenient to stop and start the self-propelled drive by simply releasing the drive bar when I needed to pause or reposition the mower, etc. The mulching blade also did a very nice job. I haven't used the water washout feature yet. The ease of use and speed of the self-propelled drive are the two features I value most, and I would recommend this mower to anyone who cannot or does not want to push a heavy manual lawnmower. This is our third Craftsman lawnmower, and I will continue to recommend Sears and Craftsman products.
