Gumby wheels

Craftsman 6.75 Torque 22 in. Deck Rear Bag Front Propelled Lawn Mower with High Wheels —

Helped my girlfriend pick out this mower today. It comes preassembled, which is nice so I was able to get it up and running in no time. It did start very easily with the pullcord (battery for key start requires initial 24hr. charge time and her lawn needed cut right away). She tried it out on her tree-lawn, and the soil level is a little low against the curb so she was riding the wheel up against the inside of the curb, and the back wheels became bent within the first couple minutes of use. I bent them back into shape, the support brackets are very weak and overly flexible, almost rubber-like, thus the "Gumby wheels" title for this review (if you ever had a Gumby or Pokey figure as a kid you know what I'm talking about!) - it worries me that the wheels may break off altogether with nothing more than a short period of regular use but that remains to be seen. The other reviewer called the wheels "wobbly" and certainly they are now! The front wheels seem marginally more sturdy that the rear wheels. After I bent the wheels back into something resembling "straight" the mower tended to run towards one side a bit so obviously they are not very straight after all! Other than the cheap rear wheel support I had no issues with the mower, it seems decent enough. I cut her whole lawn with it after her tree-lawn trial run. I did not try the deck-cleaning port that the other reviewer mentioned but I suspect that they cross-threaded their garden hose into the fitting and that's why it leaked. You can choose to use an included rear-bag, or use the side discharge chute or go with the default configuration which is to use it as a mulching mower. The other reviewer said that the plate covering the side discharge chute caused grass to go all over the mower but I did not experience that at all. Overall it seems like a decent mower but the cheap rear wheel setup is a fairly big concern I think and that alone would prevent me from recommending this mower to anyone.
