Weeds, weeds everywhere. This is a big step up from the hand held trimmer. Be sure to check for rocks or other objects that may damage your new trimmer. It works on uneven ground where the tractor can't go. I wish that it cut through a bit thicker stems. I have lots of sage brush. It works great on the mustard though.
I bought one of these about a decade ago, at a Sears "sidewalk sale", shortly after purchasing my 10 acre parcel in the mountains. It has been a real workhorse, and I will certainly buy another if I can't fix the one I have any more. It is a critical tool for a property this big. It is more ergonomic than the pole trimmers, and each tank of gas takes me about 45 minutes to burn through - take a break, get a drink, then go back and wack weeds for one more tank of gas. I'm good for about 2 tanks of gas in an afternoon. I have dozens of replacement plastic trim lines, of course; the rodents have eaten...
read full review »An otherwise great product that can NOT handle any ground with rocks or any other hard objects. Look for another trimmer with a steel mo-ball and avoid the frustration and cost of having to frequently replace the cheap Craftsman one made of inferior plastic.
If Sears would just upgrade this one part, they would have the best trimmer out there for the price.
I'm tired of fixing mine and will be buying a BearCat next week to replace the Craftsman ... sad but true ...
I bought one last Saturday because my 11 year old Craftsman fell apart the other day. This thing cuts everything I have and I have not been able to stall it like the old one used to. However using it on weeds is very tiring. The wheels are 4 inches shorter than my old one allowing it to get stuck in every gopher hole and rut. I had to muscle it over an area that wiped my out in two hours. Larger tires go over terrain much easier than short ones. The new ones wheels are even shorter than my lawn mowers.
My old one didn't have an axle, the wheels just bolted to the chassis. With this...
read full review »I've been using this particular triller for about four years now and the only complaint i have is the black plastic plate that attaches to the steel rod that turns the line always comes off in high grass. now i put it back on and it still comes off very often. Today was the last straw. It had lost all compression and the trimmer turns without any power. Motor works but the trimmer lines do not move with any power. Don 't know if i will purchase another.
If Sears would replace the cutting head with a metal heavy duty replacement this would be a fantastic product. My head broke the first year and I sent it in for repairs and Sears repaired to perfect condition. I started my yearly fire break cutting and the head hit a large pine cone and was again broken. Not 1 hours use before distruction. This tool is for areas that are not lawns and have an ocational pine cone, stick or hidden bolder. Why would I buy this tool to mow my lawn? I was going to extend my warenty plan until the comment it will not cover damage caused by rocks or other...
