There's not much to say about a bagger, but...

The soft bags are very easy to remove from the mower when they need emptied, they hold a lot more than their appearance would suggest, and they even stand up on their own when loaded with grass.

I had heard that the soft bags are preferable to the hard types,...

Most Helpful Critical Review

I purchased this bagger as it was a recommended attachment for the Craftsman 42" lawn tractor I bought last year.  In fact, the bagger model number is listed on the inside of the hood of my tractor.  Unfortunately, and for some still unknown reason, my tractor did not come with the shoulder bolts that...

Craftsman 2 bin soft bagger very easy to assemble. I found it easy to empty. Also easy to remove when using towed equipment.

Assembly was easy.

An absolute necessity

This thing is amazing!!  Very impressive the amount of grass that it can hold.  I definitely recommend the soft bags over the hard - they are easier to empty.  The simple flap closure-thingy is so amazingly easy to use.  I've used mine for a year and it's a champ.

I just want to clarify some of the other reviews -

  1. Bad idea to put lawn bags on the inside of it - the vented air allows for better grass flow into the bins and leaves less of it on the ground.
  2. I second the notion that you shouldn't put your deck too low so that you optimize air flow into the grass chute.  I leave mine on 4 (out...

I came back from vacation with 3 weeks of lawn growth. Many parts of the lawn had a foot of growth. With almost an acre of lawn, I didn't want to spend hours raking and hauling after mowing. $300 is a bit much for this product, but if it could do the job, it would be worth it.

It went together in just a few minutes - there's nothing complex about the setup. My first test on the lawn was a major fail. It would clog every 10 yards. I spent probably two hours trying to mow. No particular height/speed combination would work. After packing it up for the night I gave it a go the next day. I just happen...

Used on .6 acre lot and works well, I should of bought the 3 bag system instead. This unit still performs well. Easy storage and setup onto tractor. Used to pick up thatch on lawn after dethatching, works with ease. Would be great if  you have a small lawn! Also, if your lawn is a little wet, the tube may become clogged. It is a pain to unclogg it. Best to use when the lawn is dry.

This Bagger is Awesome! It is definately very dusty. I would recommend wearing a dust mask. I was covered in dirt the first time I used it. But that being said it picked up stuff in my yard I didn't even know was there. If your mower doesn't have the tab on the chute make sure to put on the metal plate that comes with it.

Now that being said here's the bad news. Sears is advertising this bagger $389.99 regular price. On sale for $299.99. They also have a handy 5% rebate if you don"t use the 12 month interest free deal. Then they also advertise another 15% rebate. This will bring your final price...

I purchased this bagger at the beginning of the summer.  It took me about 3 minutes to put together and on the lawn tractor.  It works great.  If I had to change anything, I would have bought the larger 9 buschel system.  I am also glad I did not get the hard containers.  The soft containers will collapse nicely for storage in the shed at the end of the year.

This bagger is fantastic. I have had a Craftsman tractor for almost 4 years and had noticed my lawn was dieing fast. I realized that this was due to excessive thatch. I've raked that all out, and need a bagger to stop this happening again.

The bagger went together in around 10 minutes, it would have been 5, but my tractor is an oder model that required the reinforcement plate installing (supplied).

First use, and it woked like a dream sucking up almost anything that it passed over. Easy to assemble, use, empty. Perfect.

The only slight negative is that the guage to tell you it needs emptying doesn't...

Very, very happy

I didn't put 5 stars just because not being a vacuum bagging system it still takes a bit of work and understanding in order to have it working right but frankly this thing is great. I bought a brand new tractor at the sears outlets the DYS 4500 24HP from last year for just $1199, after using half day with satisfaction I realized that a bagging system was indispensable. I assembled it in 5 minutes and I found out that in order to have the maximum functionality you need to keep the blades system high. This way more air will flow-in and this will have greatly in order to avoid congestion in the tube.... read full review »

Back Saver

I'm glad I ordered this item. It's been a real back and work saver! Easy to install, fits well, and does a good job of picking up leaves and grass. Not so hot on pine straw, though. And it's very dusty. Have to wear a mask when using it. But, it's easy to empty and does the job ten times faster than doing it by hand. Wish the bins were bigger, but, other than that, I'm a happy camper!

Fits and works well.

I bought this grass catcher at the same time I purchased my 24HP Craftsman Professional Lawn Tractor. The fit of the tube to the deck is near perfect. I haven't plugged mine yet, but I am aware from previous grass catcher experiences that trying to cut too much thick wet grass will stop up the tube. This even happens with walk-behind catchers. The only choice is cut off a little at a time. The grass catcher frame could use a better way to keep it attached to the tractor. At it is, it relies mostly on gravity. There is a flimsy spring strap, but it does not stay in the hole like it is supposed to.... read full review »

Not typical Craftsman

The lower shoot does not fit the mower deck at all as described in the directions. At least a 1.5-2" gap and will pop out of position easily. It's as if I purchased a different brand's product and was trying to make it fit. This is very frustrating since I think this is the only option I have for a grass catcher for my Craftsman mower. I love Craftsman products, but I can't believe this is the best they have. The directions described how to install this product to three different model types.....THAT IS THE PROBLEM!!! You can't have one model for three different models and expect it to fit. I WANT... read full review »

it is okay

Forget wet grass or damp grass the chutes clogs at the deck location... Don't make the setting less than four on the mower deck height... once I figure these flaws out it works great ... It does pick up the clipping .. I just bought the unit and only have use it twice since 5/08 The unit still works good and beats raking the 2.9acres of grass by a mile... Now that the bugs are work out it does a good job.

poorly fitting tube clogs

The tube section that attaches to the mower deck regularly clogs with grass clippings resulting in emulsified clippings being deposited on the lawn. The tube is difficult to remove and re-install. My work around is to empty the grass catchers every 100 feet (and to keep the blade on the highest setting) - very unsatifactory. Had I known of these problems before I bought, I would have saved my $300+.
