I received this unexpectedly for Christmas. Had never had one before, and initially wondered where I"d use it. Lo and behold, a small demolition project came up at church. At the last moment, I thought to bring the saw with me. Another guy brought his Milwaukee saw, and I initially stepped back and let him have at the work.

In short order, however, he was having problems. I stepped in and my Sears saw was the hero of the day.

As with another reviewer, I found the "headlight" effectively useless, but I was impressed with the power and the maneuverability of the saw in general.

I've not tried it on metal yet, but for general wood cutting, this is a fine machine.
...

The saw is a great price, from a good manufacturer. I already returned one because the Blade Rentetion system is apparently not designed to have force applied (like that of actually cutting something) because with 2 saws now, my blade has popped out multiple times when working on metal or wood... I actually needed this to install new Subframe Bushings on my car, and it refuses to cut through the RUBBER let alone the metal. Aside from that, it looks nice, seems to have a fair amount of power and is lightweight, plus the LEDs come in handier than you might think, but as it stands, that blade retention system simply needs to be changed, because it looses all it's good points if it cannot cut anything substantial. Also, the Sears Employee that helped me, and exchanged the first one, were spectacular. Very helpful and courteous.
...

I just bought this today for 29.99. Although I have not used it yet, I am happy and disapointed with it. It seems lightweight, and handy for around the home, has a built in light which could be nice for under cabinets or atics. I did plug it in and it does seem to have decent power. My dislikes are there is no case and it only came with one blade. For the price I paid for it and the One Year Warranty it comes with, I am not going to complain.
...

Purchased saw on sale for $30 to use on older home wall project. Started using on this old 3/4" drywall from hell. At first it did ok. After about 10 minutes of use it would not cut. Got upset. Then I noticed there were no teeth left on the Dewalt blade-looked like a butter knife. Started changing blades regularly and have been very pleased since. Even cut 2" steel pipe with little problem. Best tool purchase I have made in a while.
...

I wanted to put in a dog door for my Dachshunds but didn't own the saw to do it myself. I looked on-line and found this Craftsman 17175, read the reviews (with a grain of salt) and went down and bought one at my local Sear's. The sales guy was really friendly and helped me pick out the blade that would give the cleanest cut. It did just what I needed it to do. I kind of thought the light was a gimmick but since I didn't take the door off the hinges, I really needed it on the bottom corners. I liked that I didn't need a tool to flip the blade over to cut the other direction. Easy, fast and perfect for a DIY'er.
...

Bought this thing because it was a bargain. Works fine for wood and would probably work fine on metal too if it weren't for the worthless tool less blade clamp system. The slightest kick back on any kind of metal will take your blade from you and leave it stuck in the metal. This happened on sheet metal and decently thick pipe. If you are going to cut metal, stick to a model with an allen wrench chuck, because this thing will **** you off. Does have decent power for the amps, will bog down a bit when cutting through 8 inch thick or so wood and thicker metals, but still keeps on truckin. Didn't see much use in the light, it's cute, but rather pointless. It is light and easy to use with the blade facing in either direction so you can position yourself in a good way for those tough to get to cuts. Good for light to medium use on wood, worthless for metal cutting.

I wouldn't buy this at full retail price, because for $20 more you can get a better saw, but Sears puts this on sale a couple of times a year for $29.99 and that is when I bought mine. At that price it is a GREAT value. I just used it today to cut up a fair sized pile of green tree limbs for firewood up to 4" in dia. Yeah, a chainsaw would be quicker, but this is a lot lighter and easier on my bad back and with the proper blade cuts fast enough for me. There is some vibration, but not too bad, I mean your fingers won't go numb or anything. I kinda like the LED light but have no idea how long that will last and my heart won't break if it goes out. I really REALLY like the tooless ability to change blades. That is a very nice feature, not having some little wrench that easily gets lost and can't be replaced. Just twist the collar and pull the old blade out and shove the new one in. The motor seems to have plenty of power to cut wood. I haven't tried to cut anything with nails in it yet, but......

The price drove me to buy it. I needed to prune over 10 large fruit trees that had been let go for several years. I was concerned about the shorter stroke and 6 amp power of the unit but I knew Sears would take it back if it didn't work out. I even got the extended warranty just in case. This thing does everything I asked of it. Yes, it took a little longer but it knocked off limbs quickly and easily. I was able to saw 6 inch limbs in less than a minute.

The other factor which I hadn't even thought about was it's light weight. I was able to cut limbs with one hand while holding on securely with the other. Honestly, it was no problem at all, just let the saw do the work. You will need a quality pruning blade, however, the blade supplied is basically worthless. Get a quality blades and you will be very pleasantly surprised by the power of this saw.

The blade loading was simply and I have never had a problem with it disengaging. For most home owners this saw is a great value.
...
