I picked this vise up for my father's birthday this past September.  I was talking to him the other day and he absolutely loves this vise.  He said it has great weight and a good feel for all of his projects that he's trying to tackle now.  He has really liked the fact that it isn't eating away at...

Bought this thing, and the jaws cracked. Tried to get new jaws from sears, and they do not carry them. Was told that I needed to contact some third party to get them. Sick of even bothering at this point after 1/2 hour on the phone with sears. Threw it away, bought a Matco vice that was not much more...

I like it because it is very durable and is much bigger than what I was expecting.  I think it will help me with just about any job I have.

Purchased this vise based on the name, and price. It is a sturdy piece, but I am a little disappointed at the overall quality, and the fact that is Made in China. The pivot hole in the upper part is a cast hole, and the pivot bolt has a machined shoulder. Needless to say, they aren't even close , and the vise does not tighten down squarely. I machined a bushing, and bored the cast hole to a round dimension, installed the bushing, and now it is as smooth as silk, and tightens down properly. I realise that I probably voided the warranty, but it is only warranted for 1 year, anyways, not lifetime,...

Works very well for lighter duty tasks but starts to flex under heavier work. Overall it has worked well but I have noticed the craftsman quality has started to decline. extra metal here and there to support the jaws would have gone a long way in making this a really great vise. also a stop to prevent the front jaw from coming completly loose would be helpful and also making all of the mounting holes evenly spaced would have made mounting the vise much easier.

The vise itself isn't to shabby for light duty work. Do not buy this if you are going to put any torque or strain on it. The poor little thing just can't take it. The jaws will break and you will have to purchase a new vice. The side bolt that holds the vice in position on the bench just does not provide sufficient clamping pressure. The vice will turn from side to side with any kind of pressure. A good quality vise should last a life time. This vise has a very limited service life completely dependant on how long the clamp jaws last. I know a good quality vise is expensive but do you really want...

Super-Duper Bench Vice!

This is a 5 Star ***** product!!  I got a commission to make some wood-working craft items and I absolutely had to have a vice to do the job.  I went to one of the competitors and bought 3 cheap ($50.00) vices.  Two of them broke and I took them all back.  I received an email about the Sears tools and I took a look.  I ended up buying 3 vices from Sears.  This is absolutly the best vice that is on the market.  I made 100 of the pencil items and I had to crank on the vice to make the thing work.  This vice not only handled the job but I was able to put 3 to 5 pieces of wood in each vice...

I've used and abused my Craftsman 6" HD Vise for the past 10 years and it has never failed me. Initially I found too much play in the opening\closing cam action, but quickly remedied that by tightening the main swivel bolt that was 2 threads loose. Since then, this vise has helped me hand threaded 2" pipe, has supported multiple large woodworking projects for construction and assembly fabrication, drill large 1\2" plate steel and hammer into submission rebar and angled steel with my shop 5# double head sledge.

I find the 6" vise has a large opening capacity, holds objects tightly and releases with...

Holds tight

I've had the Craftsman 6 inch vise for a while now and I've never had any problems.  It has always held tight without over-tightening on the piece.  It has 4 holes so you can bolt it to your work surface and a well-built swivel base so you can pose the jaw in a multitude of versatile angles to your bench.  Great Product over all.  I highly recommend it.

I have used this vise very hard for over ten years.  I have been very happy with it.  The only thing that ever let me down was the jaws.  They broke a couple years ago.  I welded them back together a couple of times, but they kept breaking. I'm not really upset.  I have used this vise almost DAILY for over ten years.

I HAVE FOUND REPLACEMENT JAWS!!  pn 11128S41

This is the same vise a Wilton 676 (11128).  I found multiple sites that stock replacement jaws for this vise.  Just search for 11128S41 or 11125S41.  I paid $30 for my set, and I hope my vise last another ten years.

Piece of junk

Got this vise for Christmas, used it twice. I put a heavy duty bolt with lock nut on it in the vise and tightened it down. First the jaw snapped in half so I moved the bolt to the other half for a good grip, this time it held until I started to pull on the breaker bar. After a couple of tugs on the breaker bar, the vise actually broke in half! I guess I am closer to superman than I thought. I would never recommend this product to any of my friends and will be looking for a better quality product.

OMG  I found this section by accident after I tried to buy new Jaws for my Vise.

Jaws 30.99 + 13.99 S/H  OMG the vise is 74.99

It would appear that we can give BAD review after BAD review with no REAL recourse?

Unfornatatly you have to give your review at lest 1 star.

Sears/K-Mart

I own one of these and have used it a total of 6 times over a period of a year. I had the need to use it recently and put a fitting in it, tightened it down and used a wrench to unscrew a reducer bushing from it when one of the jaw plates broke. I went to Sears (K-Mart) to by another set of jaws...they don't have one but offered to sell me a new one. I declined and asked for the manager. He told me that I could go to the Sears (K-Mart) parts store that "stocks parts for everything Sears (K-Mart) sells. I went there and had a non-responsive counter-person attempt to look-up my vise and couldn't... read full review »

Stood up to abuse

I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 simply because I only used this for one job so far, and to get that 5th star I woudl need to see it last years. I bought this today for a job that was simply abuse of the tool. I needed to press a bushing in a control arm, which is a job that really should be done with a hydrualic press that costs hundreds. I was able to abuse this vise and use it as a press to install bushings on both my control arms. In order to do this, I had to use a three foot lead pipe as a cheater bar to get extra leverage, which is clearly more force than the tool is intended for.... read full review »
