Good 4 the Money

I build furniture as a hobby and have a small shop. I used a commercial version of such a sander years ago and found it very useful so finally took the leap for this unit. I went for the bigger version with a bigger belt table and I am glad I didThe unit is solid, easy to set up, fits on a bench or small... read full review »

Not for fine work

I bought last years model of this unit (at a very attractive closeout price) to supplement a Craftsman 6x48 sander I bought 25 years ago. The old design had a separate motor and stand, and was essentially a stationary tool. The new model has much to like. Its integrated design eliminates the noisy... read full review »

Good Value But Dust Collection Issues

Sander arrived in good condition and took very little effort to get going. Using the machine to build boxes. Operates fine and belt remains aligned. The dust collection could be improved. The tube going to the external collection port came undone and the machine had to be disassembled to reattach. Tube was held in with a notch and some light tape - much too easy to twist out when attaching the dust bag. The other issue was that attaching a shop vac was hard as the external port was a bit smaller (~1/4 inch) than the standard shop vac attachment. A trip to the plumbing store found a rubber seal... read full review »

5 stars

I purchased this sander for my husband for his Christmas gift. he has been in construction for over 30 yrs. so he knows his stuff and he is very particular with the type of tools he uses. He was very impressed with this sander. it is very powerful and can be positioned for different uses. I would recommend this to anyone. great tool!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get the 3/4hp unit

Don't waste your time or money on the smaller units, the don't have the power. And for a 3/4 hp unit, this one is a bit weak as well. We use ours on hardwood 99% of the time, and we could use a few more pony's some time, but it works fine most of the time. Dust collect is ok with the bag, but empty and shake the day lights out of it more often to save on dusting on start ups.

After looking at countless different sanders with prices from very high to very low, I found this sanders was a good fit and price for my needs. I have used it to sand a number of items and the quality and ease of use was really great! I had also purchased a sanding disc cleaner to clean the disc and belt between sanding of items. I highly recommemd this small purchase to prolong your sanding disc's and belts. Good product for the homeowner project person, at a good price.

Good tool

This is my first bench sander and I'm quite happy with it. I've owned it about 1 month and sanded some small pieces for 5 small clocks I've built. It has been very handy and was the only way I could find to sand a softly curved oval base piece (safely). When I first hit the power switch, I was greeted with a groan from the motor and no rotation. After checking things out, I found that the roller for the belt was stuck (from sitting idle in the box for so long). I turned it with my hand after whacking it loose with my hand, and this solved the problem. The motor would now turn. I followed the instructions... read full review »

Bring a straight edge to the store!

I brought it home and everything functioned great. It was quiet and smooth and easy to adjust for someone who hasn't used one in years. However, I found my wood piece rocking on the disc sander table and checked it with a straight edge and it was not flat. thinking my straight edge was not as it is described, I tried anything that should be straight and they all did the same thing. I brought it back to the store, where they graciously took it back, but checked the other one they had in stock and it had the same problem. It was enough where it could make a piece of wood slightly out of square. So,... read full review »

Get This!

I have been on the fence about Craftsman tools lately, some seem to be going down hill. But this little beauty is a confidence builder. I didn't think i would use this sander so much, but it has become a right hand tool in my little shop. I have only one gripe and that has to do with the six inch disc. The disc will not stay on the plate, even after cleaning the surface with alcohol. The belt side is awesome for both heavy duty sanding or fine tunning. The power is great and if it does bog down you don't need to be pressing that hard anyway. good price on replacement belt but hard to find good... read full review »

Great Price for Performance

I was not shopping for a new belt sander when I bought this. I needed and bought a new Craftsman table saw and a new Craftsman miter saw. At the time, the Craftsman club had a sale on its power tools and was offering an additional 20% off the total sale if you bought 3 Craftsman power tools together. Like I said before, I was not shopping for a belt sander, nor had I done any research or price comparisons--I went to buy two saws. I purchased this sander because the 20% savings on the 3 items combined (which were already on sale) made this sander an extreme bargain. In a state with close to 10%... read full review »

Best Bang 4 the Buck & More!!

First off, I waited for the Craftsman Club Sale in December. I was buying the 14" Band saw 22401 and 21757 Sander. Just having our first child and getting the wife to say "ok" to a big purchase this is what I needed. $399.00 on the band saw and 169.00 on the sander, it's a no brainer and wife was happy too! Ok product: It is very heavy, I hated to do so, but I asked a friend for help picking it up and setting it up. I am not sure what the few complaints are but it was very straight forward and easy to set up. For my test runs the blade it comes with seemed ok, then I decided to make the kids first... read full review »

Pretty good for the money

I just bought this last week on sale and with CM club discount. This sander is pretty decent. The table and body are made from cast iron. The belt/disk guards are plastic with threaded inserts to prevent stripping. The tracking seems a bit sensitive; nudge the wheel either way and the belt will start to wander a little. The dust collection feature is worthless, but then again so is everyone elses. Belt guard is kinda restrictive. As far as I can tell, the shroud can't be removed to utilize the entire belt.

woodchip

I bought this sander about five months ago and this machine has been in the shop for repair or I've been waiting for a replacement machine,(NEW EQUIPMENT) for at least three and a half of those five months and now this machine is broke down again. the belt sand paper will not stay on the rollers even after it has been ajusted and tuned. I would not reccommend this machine to anyone, but I have bought lots of other craftsman tools and they work perfect. I spent lots of money at sears and i just hope that i can get a refund for this sander. Or at least get another tool in place of this.
