2000 miles from, needed a rotary tool... went in search of a Dremel, left with a Craftsman! Seemed to have everything the comparable Dremel did for half the price. In fact it did have more accessories.

It's a well designed tool, nothing cheap or tacky about it. Very functional!! Looks and feels great...

Planned obsolescence

The Craftsman rotary tool has a plastic coupler inside that connects the output shaft and the motor; on mine, the motor spins, but the output shaft didn't.

When I opened it up to see what was going on, I was surprised to see a plastic tube with splines used to connect the two parts; and it was fractured. ...

Craftsman 61139 Corded Variable Speed Rotary... Reviews

The Craftsman rotary tool does just what it is supposed to do. I do a lot of small carving and detailing in wood and this unit allows me to do even more than I could with my old Dremel. It is lightweight and easily handled. The Craftsman rotary tool is powerful enough for all the hardwoods I work with, even the Cherry and Ironwood. It does not bog down under pressure or tend to travel in grainy woods. The slower speeds are great when used on hardened resins I often use in woodworking projects. I can adjust the speeds on the fly so I do not burn the plastics.

Since my 1938 model#2 Dremel Mototool...

Good starter set, included most commonly used accessories. East to add additional accessories as needed. Perfect for small projects where a Rotozip type tool would be too big.

A PIECE OF JUNK

i USED THIS TOOL ONE TIME AND THAT WAS THE END OF IT, IT DIED AND WOULD NOT RUN AFTER THAT i USED IT TO CUT A SMALL PIECE OF PLASTIC OUT OF A COVER FOR A POND PUMP AND THAT WAS THE END OF THAT i'VE OWNED 2 OF THESE AND WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER ONE FROM SEARS.

better than expected

i cam  into sears for a dremmel brand rotory tool but they somehow were sold out..... so i ended up with a craftsmen, i've always liked their hand tools but have a nasty habit of breaking most things they make with moving parts but this little thing has already taken some abuse (dropped it the first day i got it :-( ) and still works fine. i'm genuinely impressed!

Powerful and Cheap

I purchased this rotary tool specifically to do PC case modding. The documentation on the included bits/grinding discs/etc was a bit wanting, but I was able to figure it out. This rotary tool had no trouble at all cutting through my PC case! Worked wonders!

This rotary tool rocks.

This tool does everything it says it does and more.I have mine for a long time and it still works like new. I have also purchaced some of the acessories for this tool and it performed flawlessly. I rarely find a tool that I'm this happy with.

Craftsman Variable Speed Rotary Tool Kit

What a GREAT tool and price. It has all the attachments I needed to get started on most any project that needed a rotary tool. Great design. I use mine for automotive modifications.

Dremel makes this tool

This tool is made by Dremel, and is essentially the same as their 300 series. It's still a great tool...just be sure to consider Dremel kits as they are more abundant and often priced cheaper.

A Must-Have!

How did I ever get along for so long without this rotary tool? With difficulty, to be sure! This tool has been a life- and time-saver at home and jobsite. From the simplest in hobby miniature work, through difficult repair situations, to precision Research & Development crafting and prototyping. Functional, well-designed, and priced lower than the competing retail and industry brands.

I have used this in my small engine business, where I build race engines for karting. I have enjoyed using the tool, and while none of the accessories do me any good, it does have some nice things to get you started. One blaring weakness is the weak lock to change bits with. It will wear out on you really fast. I am getting ready to buy another, as I like this one better than the one I bought to replace it. Too bad all the tools didn't have interchangable collars, etc. I would also like to see a blow molded case for our tools we buy at Sears, this bag stuff is for the birds. Must be part of the... read full review »
