Just like the title I am wishing for the day that all the bugs are worked out of the Compucarve. I am also confused to see Sear's is offering a protection plan for 3 or 5 years. When I bought my CC I was told no protection plan is offered. If this is true it would be worth buying the CC now. As it is now you have a 1 year warranty from Sears and the manufacture ( LHR )offers 200 hours. Which ever occurs first and LHR does not offer an extended warranty. So if Sears will offer the protection plan, buy it with the machine. You will need and use it!
This machine is a fantastic machine when it is working and the software is so user friendly. A very few people who bought the CC have not had any issues. That is the minority, for the most part the issues are many. A lot of the issues are the same reoccurring problems. LHR have been working on the bugs and have solve a few. I hope they are able to to fix all the bugs before it is too late.
Quite a few of the people who own the machine have a background in electronics and CNC machines. So the bugs are a challenge to them and the repairs are second hand to them. Now for the other people who are not trained in these fields, have and will become frustrated with the reoccurring issue. If they voice their frustration to the company or forum they are ostracized.
This is a great asset for the hobbyist woodworker or for the mechanically incline person. The results are great and software is user friendly. Keep in mind the software only works for the CC. So don't waste your money buying other CNC software. Some owners with cad back ground have used Corel Draw and have been able to make pattern for the CC designer.
Carvewright also offers patterns made by Vector Art 3D, but again you are limited to the CC software. Even though it is a limited software, it will allow you to make quite a few great projects.
It boils down this ,are you willing to take the chance and hope you buy a problem free unit? Or do you monitor the forum and reviews until the bugs are worked out? If Sears will offer a protection plan, I would buy one now at the price of $1699.00. I would get the 5 year plan and with that time I would hope LHR will work out all the bugs and you will have an affordable compact CNC!
