I bought this to replace an old genie garage door opener. This came with everything I wanted, and was pretty easy to install. It took two of us about 1-2 hours total. 2 ladders is a real help as well. It is much quieter than the old one as well. Make sure to join the craftsman club if you are not...

Most Helpful Critical Review

Installation was easy. Door closes until door about 3/4 of the way down then reverses. I have replaced the sensors. Realigned the sensors until solid light. Check for wiring shorts. Local sears store staff do not know enough to help. Last time for sears equipment. Sears would replace the sensors...

The gentleman that recommended this garage opener to me had already installed a new garage door for me and stated my already installed opener was in need of repair. He brought me the Sears sales paper ad with this Craftsman Garage Door Opener and said it was the best and I wouldn't be disappointed.

My son and I went out that Saturday and purchased it and it was installed within days and I have been so delighted with this product. I have shown it to my guest and continue to recommend it to others.

I'm very please with not only my product but the service I received from the rep in the store; he was...

We bought this opener to replace an opener that we had for 22 years. My two children have this model opener in there homes and they work great, so we replaced our old craftsman with this model it is the same model as the one we got 22 years ago except it is a newer version. The old one we put up and never had a problem I am sure this will be the same.

Easy to Install

Nice product. Works well and very easy to install. I am a professional, but even my wife could have done this job. Big improvement over my old unit, which was 30+ years old. It had failed, but now that I see how much better this unit is, even if the old one was still working, it would be better to just replace it.

Two 100 watt bulbs make a big difference in n otherwise dark garage. The old unit only had one bulb.

I had an old (30+ years) Craftsman garage door opener that still worked. However, the lights no longer turned on and the receiver technology was also very old. I wanted to install a combination remote outside the garage so my wife could get in the house when she forgets her keys. However, it would have cost as much for the new receivers as purchasing a whole new opener which came with all that stuff.

And boy am I glad I did! The new opener is smoother, quieter, and picks up the signal from all the way down the street. Plus, I now have lights in the garage again! I was able to reuse the old...

If you follow the instructions closely, it will take about 4 hours, start to finish, if you are replacing an old opener. Your easiest option is to use the existing brackets on the header and the door. I replaced a 20 year old Craftsman unit that has certainly far exceeded its life expectancy. The logic board went bad and the replacement is no longer made. So after reviewing all the openers at Sears.com, I narrowed it down to this unit because it had the new remote keypad as well as two regular remotes. I also liked the light and lock features on the wall-mounted remote. The installation took... read full review »

We purchased this garage door opener. We believe it is a good opener. We like the keypad and 2 remote control openers. We paid to have it professionally installed through Sears and for the warranty. The product is good but the install went wrong. Our garage door was damaged from incorrect installation. It was fixed with brackets to allow it to close but that didn't completely fix the problem. We spent $300 for the opener and installation and warranty. Then a year later we spent an additional $300 paying to replace a panel in our garage door. We haven't bought another Sears item after this.... read full review »

I replaced an old Chamberlain opener with this Craftsman. Installation was easy as i only replaced the unit itself. The previous tracks were in good working order. It fit perfectly into the current position and works like a charm. It was very detailed in how to fine tune the door to open to the proper height and go down the proper height. I have had this installed for three weeks now without any problems. Much quieter than my other opener also. I will not mark off for this, since i have not done proper research but i am unable to program my cars garage door opener feature built in. I figured... read full review »

I purchased the opener ($130) along with Sears "professional installation" ($120). I reside in DC and Sears had a service provider from Richmond VA (nearly 2 hours away) install the product. The vendor phoned to verify my location and any specific installation needs. I shared that a garage door roller had fallen off (requiring replacement), the door might require alignment and adjustments to the cable/springs would probably be necessary as a cable gave way once resulting in the door "falling closed", the roller snapping off and the torsion spring came away from its installed position on the... read full review »

Poor mechanical design

I used to teach mechanical design courses to senior mechanical engineering students. If one of them had come to me with this design, they would have failed my class. The rail slips together and does not have anything that positively determines its length. If the joints loosen up, the chain must be adjusted to accomodate the change. If the chain is removed, the length of the rail changes.

The mounting hardware can best be described as completely inadequate. It consists of two thin metal angles that are supposed to be bent around to fit whatever conditions exist in the garage. There's no structural...

Bought this opener in 2004, never did work properly. Remote opens the door when it wants to, ask the store for help, they couldn't come up with a resolution. Recently, one of the two lights kept going off/wouldn't work, seems to be a bad light socket, looked up the part, it's $8.99 which isn't too bad but the shipping is $7.99.....really sucks.......

I have two in the attached garage on the house, and when I built a second garage I did not look at anything other than the 1/2 hp chain drive. Works great, was easy to install. The deal I got was great, they were on sale and I had a $25 gift card so the price was less than the cheaper one. I got more for less.

Our last Sears garage door opener worked flawlessly for 11 years.  I am confident our new one will too. We are not rich and therefore cannot gamble on products for our home.  When we built our home in 1999 we filled it with appliances from Sears. We have never regretted that decision. When our friends or neighbors complain about their washing machine or oven range or water softener that quit working after a year or two, we tell them you should have went to Sears.  I am an industrial mechanic and another thing I like when in the store is the sales staff is knowledgeably, professional, and helpful...

I installed the opener with my father on a Saturday. It took us about 5 hours because we tried to use the existing center rail (word to the wise, replace the rail, it is faster and easier).

In the end it really wasn't all that difficult to install though (I was neverous about screwing up the install so I spent more time than normal studying the directions).

The opener runs great, much quieter than the Craftsman 1/3 HP it replaced.

I would definitely record to anyone in the market for one.
