Craftsman manual trimmer works well

I saw this in an ad and decided to try it, doing a small part for the environment. I didn't have high hopes, but it made me feel good. Well, to my surprise, this thing actually works well and is easy to use while giving me a little exercise in the process. If I need to get the string trimmer out, I confess...

I had a single wheel Craftsman edger for 10 years when a part broke. Sears replaced it with this model. In one season, I have had to replace it four times because is bends out of shape when you use it for its intended purpose and then becomes unuseable. The ONLY saving grace is that they keep replacing... read full review »

Not as easy as I expected

The metal bracket that connects the wheel to the handle BENT and deformed after only a couple hard pushes.

Partly the fault of not edging for a long time, it was extremely difficult to use this tool to edge, at least for me (weighing 140lbs). Definitely a pain in the *** to push this thing along and cut through thick overgrowth. Way too much effort for my needs.  I guess this tool is meant for edging that is kept up with and some light overgrowth.

I went out and bought an electric edger.  That has to be easier.

Conditionally good

Why, but why did they have to wimp out on the metal that attaches the wheel to the handle? Count on it to bend at the curve where it meets the wood if you're trying to ram through long overdue overgrowth. If that's the case, borrow your neighbors (the one with the electric -not the noisy polluting gas) edger or get a lawn service to do it once. Then use this - it might just hold up for regular edge maintenance thereafter.

Manual Edger

Not as easy as it looks... the metal bends when you really put some muscle into it... but it has a lifetime warranty...

The Craftsman Dual Wheel Edger is badly engineered and cheaply built. I found out that it bends very easily shortly after starting to use it. It needs a cross bracket on the metal arch on top of the wheels.

Don't Buy! Not worth $20

4 swipes at the edge of my grass and this edger bent so now I can use it!  Don't buy this edger!  Not worth even $20!

Didn't work for me.

This tool might work for a big strong person, but it didn't work for me.  I was worn out after edging about 3 feet.  I have thick St. Augustine grass which doesn't help either.  It's very well made and sturdy but I have better luck with my electric weed eater/edger.

Do not buy this product.

I have gone through 5 of these trimmers in the past 3 years.  The metal component holding the unit to the handle bends quite easily.  If there was some way to make that more hardened, it would be a great tool.  Also putting a foam gripper on the pole would assist on it not being so hard on your hands.

Pretty Good Product

This is a pretty good product that really works once you get the hang of using it. At first use it was kind of hard to use and very time consuming especially on my sidewalks due to the years of overgrowth but once I figured out how to use it, it left a nice clean edge but I would recommend wearing some really thick or padded work gloves while using this tool as it may make your hands a little sore but I like this tool and I plan to finish the rest of my yard with it.

I just purchased this edger based upon my experience with these as a kid. My grandparents had one from the 60's, and I used to use it when I did their yardwork. The design is virtually unchanged over the years, and it produces excellent results. Build quality is very good. It produces professional quality edging (with that nice space between the grass and the concrete); it gives you a great workout; and it uses no fuel, so it helps the environment too! If you are picky on your yard's looks, then I highly recommend this product.

Gives the edging around your yard a very professional look. First time use may be difficult if you have a lot of overgrowth, but future maintenence is quick and simple.

A must have for your lawn care needs

This product is a great asset to add to your lawn care regimen. After using your Craftsmen gas or electric edger early in the season to establish the "edge", this will maintain the appearance of the edging throughout the season very effectively and easily. I use it every time I mow to maintain the edge border and to also trim the excess grass that grows out of the side of the lawn onto the sidewalk.
