First time I used this trimmer in my back yard the automatic feeding mechanism failed. It fed over 1 foot of line or more at a time. I had to carry a pair of wire snips in my pocket to trim the line before I could move on. Dangerous piece of equipment that I could not recommend to anyone. Do not purchase......
This is a case of you get what you pay for; on the other hand it does come with a 2 year warranty so when my first one quit working after a year and a half I simply returned it to the store and they gave me a replacement one. Since my sons work on our lawn and neighbors' lawns, I need a product light enough for them to use without getting hurt. For the price, I can replace it enough times until they are big enough to use a larger and better product. We also had problems with the line feed. I am hoping now that we have another one purchased over a month ago the problem may have been fixed...
read full review »I started using the trimmer and thought it was working well until the cutter didn't cut the line. The automatic feeder kept feeding line out and it began to hit my legs. I cut the line and once again it did the same thing until it began shearing the line off inside the feeder. Not a good Craftsman product.
Not a bad deal for $49.99. As with all tools, you get what you pay for.
Overall, the trimmer is fairly well built, has good balance, and is very powerful. Assembly is minor and quick.
I'm not thrilled with the adjustable auxiliary handle. The knob seems poorly made and I get the feeling that I will have to replace it or the bolt that attaches it to the trimmer shaft at least once during the lifetime of the trimmer. There is a recess in the knob where a nut should be pressed, but the nut was nowhere to be found upon initial inspection. This leads me to believe that the plastic knob can and will...
read full review »I needed to replace a trimmer and noticed Sears had theirs on sale. I went into the store and looked all the models on display. There were half a dozen displayed to choose from. I picked this model due to the sturdy construction, light weight, longer reach and more powerful motor. I have a small yard so the corded trimmer works well for me. After trimming around the yard twice with this Craftsman i know i made a good choice. It's both quiet and cuts grass and weeds really well. I recommend this model.
We returned the trimmer after using it one time. The line kept coming out and cut my husbands leg really deep. The automatic trimmer line release sounded like a good option but ended up being dangerous. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
Used it to cut down 3' tall grass, did just fine. Be sure to get the refill too, It was empty on the shelf but the salesman got one from the back.
Easy to put together, snapped the guard on, attached the other handle, then just plug in and start using.
This trimmer is an excellent tool, easy to use and perfect for home use. It's reasonably light, even for those of us with back problems. Love the bumpless feature. Keep up the good work Sears/Craftsman.
I just purchased this corded electric line trimmer/edger the other day and have only used it once. It seemed to do a good job at trimming the grass in my yard, nothing too tall or heavy. it was alot quieter than my old weedeater that finally died. The edger seemed to work ok but you have to be careful to get a clean straight line when edging along the sidewalk. I don't think the blower feature works very well, I had to use my other blower to clean the walk but that's ok. I have read that replacement spools are hard to find for this product and they were out of them at the store I bought...
read full review »This Model # 74547 has to be one of the best trimmers that I bought ever. I have read all of the reviews of what other people had to say and went to the Sears store to look at this trimmer myself in person and as well look at the other trimmers at the same time. I did not intially buy this trimmer at first, I gave it a night to think about it to think it over and re-read some of the reviews that were posted. This trimmer is super light weight compared to the other Sears trimmer Model # 74545 which feels like a tank. I got to use my new trimmer for the first time last night, it swings from...
read full review »I had a Craftsman electric trimmer for 12 years and it worked great. About a year ago, Sears stopped selling the line spool for it, so there was no choice but to get a new model. I bought this one, which appeared to be a comparable model. HOWEVER, I had trouble with it from day one (purchased in fall 2008). Within one year, it completely stopped working (September 2009). The main problems were related to line-feeding. Frequently, the line would get caught in the spool housing. That required stopping the trimmer, untangling the line, and sometimes re-loading it completely. Frequently. The last...
read full review »Like another reviewer said, if I could give this ZERO stars I would. I purchased this 'line cutter' because it was a Craftsman, was on sale, and I liked the idea of not having to 'bump' the thing on the ground to advance the line. The auto-advance feature is a nice idea, but doesn't work at all. My wife was curious about this thing and tried her luck with it when I started using it. By the time she got to the back yard with it, it was not advancing itself at all and I had to take it apart 3 times to pull out more line! Had it one week and returning it today for a traditional tap on the ground style....
