Freed my stripped nuts!

I had tried several options and several hours to remove a stripped lug nut from a recessed rim. I grabbed a six sided socket one size smaller than the nut. Whacked on the impact driver for 5 minutes with a 4 pound sledge. Nut removed! Did the same for another stripped nut on the same rim. Unfortunately,...

As usual a wonderful Craftsmen product. I did break the adapter the first day I used it, I was using a 3lb. hammer though. The only other gripe I have is that it doesn't come with a case. For a product that comes with small parts not having a case seemed like it wasn't well thought out. I ended up just...

I Bought this product due to the reputation of the Craftsman brand name and could not believe the way it was packaged, very poorly but the tool works just as expected it to coming from Sears and the Craftsman line of tools.

And that always makes my job a lot easier and more profitable and who would not want that, I have tried other brands of this same tool and did not have any success so I make one stop to buy all of my tools at half of the price of some other brand name tools.

Great tool, needs a case!

I replaced my old one and reused the metal case that the old one came in. It also had a larger straight bit that this one didn't have and I bought a #1 Phillips bit (Sears Item #47631) for a total of 6 bits! This would be very complete if it came with a case and 6 bits. I would prefer a metal case because it is much more compact that a blow mold case.

The Craftsman Hand Impact Tool Set uses impact action to free or tighten rusted or frozen screws. The six piece hand impact set utilizes a 1/2 inch square drive to deliver a whopping 200 ft/lb of torque! Contents of the tool set include: 1/2 inch drive impact tool, chuck, #2, #3, #4 phillips bits, and 3/8 inch slotted bit.

The impact tool has foward and reverse direction capabilities. To operate the impact tool, you set the direction, apply twisting motion and strike the end of the tool with a hammer. This action causes very short movement of the fastener. Once the fastener is broken free...

This tool will save the day!

This tool will save your butt when nothing else works.  I had a water pump bolt break off in the block on my truck engine and I thought I was done for sure after I broke an easy off tool in the bolt; it was so frozen.  I was desperate and my dad said something about a hand impact wrench and some heat.  So, I cut a slot in the part of the bolt that was still sticking out with a hack saw and heated the area around the frozen bolt up till it was slightly red.  Then I took this tool and the regular slot screwdriver bit and pounded with a 3 pound sledge and the bolt moved out like it was a brand...

Craftsman Impact Driver -- The Craftsman Impact Driver is a favorite tool of mine, when I have a stuborn phillips or flathead screw to break loose without damaging the head. It is a totally solid hand tool & quickly able to change bits. I come across rusted or corroded phillips or flat head screw tops in my shop regularly from small engine repair work or any items that have been left out in the weather. The Craftsman impact driver even works well when working on boat motors where screws are corroded in thier housings from lake or river water. You can also use the Craftsman impact driver to tighten... read full review »

I stripped out a few rusted phillips head screws that were holding my rotors onto the hubs of my car using a phillips head and a drill.  Talked to a guy at Sears and he told me to pick one of these up.  I thought it wouldn't work because I had already stripped out 2 screws out of 3.  Yet he said give it a try and so I did.  To my suprise once I figured out how to use it which took me a while, I was able to get the screws out without a problem, even the two stripped ones.  It did take me a while to figure out how the tool works at first, but now I could remove screws with my eyes closed and...

Save time and money on rusted and stuck screws and bolts. It is a great addition to my tool sets. it can save you the time of calling some one to do what you can now do. Made tough and does the job.

The best hand tool I own

The tool is pure quality and is simple to use just twist to tighten or loosen then bang with a hammer. I used this to remove some screws that held my rotors in place. Apparently these screws gave everybody problems on other forums. With this tool it was a piece of cake to remove the screws. Also it looks like you can attach impact sockets to this driver.

5 stars

Perfect for loosening stuck set screws during a brake rotor replacement. Also works well to remove rusted screws on a carburetor.

Missed Opportunity

This is a great tool, popularly priced, and extremely well-made. Comparable 3/8" tools (that are nearly identical) by Klein and Lisle sell for at least ten dollars more than this massive 1/2" drive Craftsman piece. But Sears/Craftsman has a problem with packaging and description; the packaging is a flimsy blister pack, instead of a blow-molded case with snaps (which a solid item like this requires) and the description and instructions are extremely brief and poorly written. For example, nowhere on the packaging is it mentioned that the tool is reversible, and capable of tightening as well as loosening.... read full review »

Worked for me today, have used it before, definately helps if you own a jeep with all the torxhead bolts. (windshield etc). Saved my butt a lot back in the day, still helps today. craftsman sells it for 25 bux with bits and 1/2 drive... snap on (by itself, with no bits/ etc) is 57 bux. Seriously, snap on isnt worth the extra money, ever.
