Craftsman LTS 1500 17.5 HP/42" Lawn Tractor —
We purchased this tractor in the spring on 09 to replace a worn out 12 year old similar tractor of a different make. After a season of use on our med lawn and also on our 1 acre farm plot we are impressed with the tractor's performance.
When we first got the tractor, one rear tire always needed air, this was due to a porous weld in the wheel and was replaced by sears. But not before an agravating call to sears call center that seemed to be someone in India or at least with someone that english is not their first language.
We did purchase the extended warranty and hope for a better experience with the call center if and when we need to use the warranty.
As for cutting grass, the rear deck wheels are required (at an additional cost) for a decent cut. We also purchased the front wheels for the deck but haven't installed them yet as this requires you to remove the deck to install.
But with the rear deck wheels the tractor cuts well and does well even in very tall grass and weeds.
The engine seems to produce plenty of power for the blades as well as good towing capacity. Does very well towing heavy loads of manure up hills. The engine is also good on fuel and easy to start..
Let's hope it lasts a long time!
