Worth the price.

The unit is easily assembled by one person however a few parts are not identified correctly in the instructions. Once put together the unit performs as described. I added 4 cement blocks for weight and pulled thumb sized plugs from a very firm clay based yard of over 1 acre.

Craftsman plug areator

Unit requires two people to assemble.  Limited assembly instructions make it difficult to put together.  It is VERY easy to cut yourself on the tines as you put the unit together.  Some of the pictorial assembly instructions are ambiguous resulting in having to take the item apart on more than one...

Craftsman Lawn Aerator Reviews

Got this on a saturday. Sunday afternoon, took me about an hour to put together. Relatively easy assembly. Gets pretty heavy as you get it together.

Attached to my YS-4500 lawn mower and after I had de-thatched the yard, I pulled this over the entire yard. I only had about 12 red bricks for weight, but that was almost enough to choke the engine down. 20 hp seems to be about enought to pull it. A lighter powered mower might have issues.

Didn't seem to go deeper than a couple of inches though (maybe do to light weight). Now we wait and see how the lawn responds.

You will want to work the up/down...

40" Craftsman lawn aerator

After a long two month search and review I purchased this aerator. The price, quailty and Craftsman name really made the selection quite easy.

This product has and will continue to enhance the quality of my yard. Allowing nutreints and moisture more easily absorbed into the grass. As well as relieving the tightness in the soil.

This lawn aerator works great!

We were able to put five concrete blocks on the tray to get a deeper hole punch and it works great!  We truly love this and it hooked up great behind the **********!! Works like a charm, love it!!

Received packaged partially ripped and some of the hardware were scattered all around the box. Luckily none were missing. Given the size and weight for the hardware, I would recommend the plastic bag is packaged in a small box in case it rips the hardware stay in place. It took me couple hours to assemble installation instructions were very good. Overall I am completely satisfied with the product. It is a good buy for the money!

Good item for the price

Works pretty well. I would give it 4 starts compared to a professional aerator used at a golf course but I give it 5 starts for the price and aeration ability. Two passes slightly offset works really well. I did it the day after a rain and put 100lbs on the tray and had good 2 inch plugs. Takes about an hour to assemble. Very pleased.

As I was putting it together, and by the way, the instructions were very simple, I could tell how sturdy this aerator was. I have it several times and it works perfectly even in real dry ground the plugs go right in to the ground. I am very satisfied with my aerator.

Bought the Craftsman 40" Plug Aerator (486.24326) on-line and picked it up at a nearby Sears - no shipping charge, The similar Agri-Fab would have been about a $50 ship charge.  I actually liked the engagement mechanism of the Craftsman over the Agri-Fab (the Agri's is in the weight tray and must be in the way I think; also - the Craftsman's handle helps in transporting/wheeling, which is very very easy).  The assembly went very well - about two hours, just taking my time - there were two missing nuts - called cus-srv, they sent them out and were received in about 4 days, used local hardware...

Unhappy with purchase!

Purchased this aerator in hopes that it would save me from having to rent aerators on a yearly basis as I own a local lawn service. Purchased on sale for $159.88 at my local Sears store. This item appeared to be very sturdy and built well. So I purchased it. No matter how much weight I put on it, I could not get plugs to be any more than half inch max plugs. This after watering yard and adding 180 lbs at one point. It was hard to even tell that the yard had been aerated. I will be returning to Sears tomorrow. Not a happy customer!! Next time I will try it before buying it!

It works very well!

Outstanding performance. I've had it several weeks now and have aerated a baseball outfield twice. The top shelf allows adding additional weight which is very useful if your soil is hard. It definitely lives up to the Craftsman name!

I just used this 40" aerator on my Tulsa bermuda lawn for the second time.  I have a Dixon Speed-ZTR30 that I pull it with.  My hitch is too high for the aerator so I had to buy a hitch receiver from ******** for $20 to lower my mower's hitch.  With that adjustment the pavers I use as weight don't fall off as much.

Like others I have to get off the mower to raise the aerator out of the ground.  Especially now that I've added the hitch receiver the raising arm is way out of my reach.

I'm happy with the aerator.  I rented a walk-behind once and I think it pulled better cores as it had a mechanically...

So far so good...

Purchased this aerator for $150 after the fertilizer company wanted nearly $200 to aerate my yard. Took less than an hour to put together, and worked very well, pulling out about 1 inch plugs. I finished a one acre yard in less than an hour. The only hard part is raising the aerator onto the wheels while remaining seated on the mower (like when I had to cross my driveway).
